    Senior Associate - Banking & Finance

    Overview

    The successful candidate will be exposed to a wide variety of Banking and Finance work, including opinion work and local and cross-border transactional work. If appointed, the candidate will develop excellent transaction management abilities as well as exceptional technical skills. The candidate will gain experience in debt transactions, preference share transactions and financial services law.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Drafting of agreements and corporate documents;
    • Managing transactions (including cross-border transactions) and engaging with borrower and lender clients and local counsel in other jurisdictions;
    • Researching and advising on all aspects of South African financial services legislation and contract law (as it applies to finance transactions);
    • Attending independently to matters;
    • Assisting with the training of junior team members and clients, on request; and
    • Participating actively in the team's business development initiatives.

    Skills, Abilities & Experience

    The candidate should:

    • be admitted as an attorney and have at least three years post qualification experience in a Banking & Finance practice and be able to independently manage a transaction;
    • be achievement-oriented, focused and able to work under pressure in a deadline driven environment
    • have a thorough knowledge of the law applicable to South African debt finance transactions;
    • have strong analytical skills;
    • have the ability to self-regulate;
    • have excellent drafting skills;
    • have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written);
    • have a keen interest in financial services legislation;
    • be willing to read / keep up with market and regulatory developments applicable to finance law;
    • have the capacity for hard work, long hours and quick turnaround times;
    • demonstrate the ability to take part in and initiate client development activities;
    • demonstrate the ability to train junior team members; and
    • demonstrate the ability to manage client relations, billing processes and practice management in general.
    • This is a demanding but stimulating position which will require working outside of normal office hours, when necessary.
