• Genesis Analytics’ Payment & Digital Financial Services (DFS) Service Line exists to accelerate inclusive, secure, and efficient digital economies across Africa and other emerging markets. We pair Genesis’ mission of social change with deep payments expertise—helping governments, development partners, banks, and fintechs unlock the power of modern payment infrastructure for consumers, businesses, and the wider economy.

Our team works across four mutually-reinforcing pillars:

• Payment Strategy & Research – We craft evidence-based roadmaps that align clients’ payment and DFS ambitions with market opportunities, future-proofing their competitiveness.
• Policy & Regulation – We advise central banks and regulators on national-level strategies for fintech, payment systems and open-banking frameworks—most recently leading Ethiopia’s National Payment Strategy—while guiding private-sector actors through complex regulatory environments.
• Infrastructure Enablement – From design to optimisation, we manage multi-year implementations of national and cross-border payment rails, providing hands-on project-management support to central banks and national switches.
• Impact Assessment – We quantify the impact of DFS initiatives on improving livelihoods, combining rigorous evaluation methods with powerful analytics. For example, we are currently the impact measurement partner for the African Development Bank’s digital financial inclusion facility.

No two assignments look alike: one week you may be modelling the economics of an instant-payments scheme; the next, translating complex regulatory reforms into compelling stories for investors, policymakers and the public. Requirements

• The Payments and DFS Senior Associate is responsible for leading a team of consultants in providing strategic advice to banks, payment service providers, regulators and fintechs on matters involving payments. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the payments industry, as well as experience in consulting and business development.

Responsibilities:

• Lead a team of consultants in providing strategic advice to clients on issues involving payments - from market insights to internal design and value proposition
• Develop and execute proposals for new client engagements
• Conduct market research and analysis to identify trends and opportunities in the payments industry
• Stay up-to-date on the latest developments in payments technology and grow personal and firm profile through blogs and public reports
• Build and maintain relationships with key clients and prospects. Clients are expected to include:
• National switches
• Regulators
• Development partners in the payment space
• Banks (payment divisions - issuing, acquiring, across all payment streams)
• Payment Service Providers
• Fintechs
• Card Associations
• Develop and manage strategic partnerships
• Develop and train more junior members of the team
• Develop new products and services that can be sold to clients in the field of payments and digital financial services 

You are likely to have:

• Master's degree in business administration (MBA) or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in consulting or payments or DFS strategy
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
