Senior Engineer Overhead Lines at Trans Africa Projects

Purpose of the Job:

• Responsible for solving a variety of complex overhead line problems and providing specialist engineering input, advice, and problem-solving.
• Interprets principles, concepts, and theories in the line’s specialized area while operating within the Transmission and Distribution OHL design discipline and maintaining professional accountability for the design of overhead power lines.

Key Performance Areas (KPA’s):

• Design a product for the client that details all the technical aspects of the design and highlights errors.
• Proficient in PLS-Cadd, PLS-Tower, and PLS-Pole.
• Design method 4 towers in PLS-Tower and analyze the load cases.
• Serve as line design technical professional and provide consultation and guidance to project teams.
• Present at the design committees within the specified timelines to ensure on-time delivery of the final design.
• Conceptualize the design and discuss it with the client for first approval or gain buy-in.
• Suggest designs that will meet clients’ requirements with minimum costs.
• Validate all design aspects and processes of all designs.
• Manages project design within budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
• Consult clients on discipline-related issues which include their own designs or other designs.
• Provide advisory services to clients on all design-related matters.
• Responsible to identify leads, and opportunities for work, to create Sourcing of Work.
• Identify any further shortcomings and discuss with Line Managers.
• Leverages experience by mentoring and supporting training.

Minimum Requirements:

• BSC Engineering or B Tech in either of the following: Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering.
• Professional registration with ECSA is preferred.
• Overhead Power Lines Design experience.

Other competencies and requirements:

• 5 years’ experience in Transmission/ Distribution for Engineers with BSc/BEng degrees.
