    Senior Lecturer: HIV/AIDS and the Law (X1)

    Ref. SENLEC/HIVAIDSLAW/CLAW2025R

    • The Department of Jurisprudence would particularly welcome applicants who have experience, knowledge, and relevant qualifications in law. Candidates should note that although the position is primarily for undergraduate and postgraduate HIV/AIDS and the Law modules, the successful candidate will be expected to teach any other module in the department, as and when the operational needs of the department require.
    • The successful candidate will also be required to supervise postgraduate students in HIV/AIDS and the Law and any other relevant field in the department.

    Post specific requirements:
    APPLICANTS FROM ACADEMIA

    • Applicants must have an LLM degree in Medical Law or Human Rights Law.
    • Applicants must be registered for a Doctoral degree in Medical Law or Human Rights Law.
    • Applicants must have at least three (3) years’ teaching experience in a higher education institution.
    • Applicants must have at least five (5) research output units in five years OR three (3) research output units in three (3) years. Applicants are required to clearly indicate whether they are applying the criteria over a 3- or 5- year period.
    • The articles/book chapters must be peer reviewed and accredited.
    • Applicants must submit a research reflection/or portfolio.
    • Participation involvement in community engagement/engaged scholarship, with evidence of how such participation will be, or has been, transferred into teaching and learning and/or research.
    • Evidence of involvement in Departmental, School, College and University committees or task teams and voluntary associations.

    Recommendations:

    • A Doctoral degree in Medical Law or Human Rights Law.
    • Involvement with national learned societies.

    APPLICANTS FROM NON-ACADEMIA

    • Applicants must have an LLM degree in Medical Law or Human Rights Law.
    • Applicants must indicate their intention to register for a Doctoral degree in Medical Law or Human Rights Law.
    • Applicants must be able to discuss their teaching reflection and statement.
    • Applicants must have at least three (3) years’ experience in the field of Jurisprudence or Legal Practice and Interpretation.
    • Applicants must submit a research reflection and/or portfolio.
    • Demonstrate potential to participate in community engagement/engaged scholarship.
    • Evidence of participation in workplace committees or task teams and voluntary associations.

    Recommendations:

    • A Doctoral degree in Medical Law or Human Rights Law.
    • Experience in teaching at an Institution of Higher Learning.
    • Experience in teaching postgraduate courses or postgraduate research project supervision.
