Senior Lecturer/Lecturer: Department of Chemical Engineering at Stellenbosch University

Duties/Pligte        

• Teaching and administration of undergraduate chemical engineering modules.
• Execution of fundamental and applied research, focused on broadening the Department's research activities in one of its current areas of interest listed above.
• Supervision of final year research projects as well as postgraduate researchers in the relevant research field.
• Technology transfer to the industry and broader community.
• Performing support, administrative and representative roles in the Department.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes        

For appointment as Lecturer:

• An applicable four-year bachelor's degree (such as BEng or BScEng) in chemical engineering from a reputable university, recognised by the Engineering Council of South Africa to qualify for registration as a Professional Engineer.
• A doctoral degree in chemical engineering from a reputable university, with a research topic related to areas of relevance to the Department of Chemical Engineering.   
• An excellent academic track-record.
• The ability to teach courses and modules as part of a typical undergraduate chemical engineering programme.
• Evidence of postgraduate supervision experience, or research outputs such as published peer-reviewed journal articles.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in at least English, with a good ability to communicate clearly and to present lectures in a structured manner.
• Good interpersonal skills, high emotional intelligence, and the ability to work effectively independently as well as within a team.

For appointment as Senior Lecturer (in addition to the requirements for Lecturer):

• An established research record in a relevant field of research.
• Substantial independent tertiary teaching experience at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, or technical / research experience in industry in a relevant field of expertise.
• A proven ability to secure research funds and to lead research projects.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling

For appointment as Lecturer:

• Registration as a Professional Engineer with ECSA.
• For appointment as Senior Lecturer:
• Registration as a Professional Engineer with ECSA.
• An NRF rating as a researcher.
• Appropriate industry experience.
