    SENIOR LECTURER (MEDICAL SPECIALIST – CLINICAL PAYLINE) (5-year contract)

    Introduction:
    We would like to appoint a senior lecturer on a 5-year contract position, to continue the valuable work, in the Department of Education post in the department of Psychiatry and Mental health, Division of Consultation Liaison Psychiatry. The senior lecturer would be a member of the department’s Registrar Training Committee and continue to work towards enhancing registrar training as well to develop new systems to meet academic and professional development needs. In addition, liaison psychiatry represents psychiatry in a crucial way, mental health expertise to the Faculty of Health Sciences

    Requirements:

    • Relevant clinical experience & interest in mental health.
    • Relevant experience & interest in post-graduate education & training in mental health.
    • Sound administrative skills, and competency with advanced computer skills.
    • A registered medical doctor with postgraduate qualification in a mental health related field (MSC, MMed, FCPsych, PhD) with extensive experience in teaching & training of under & post graduates in psychiatry.
    • Registration with the HPCSA

    Responsibilities:

    • Generate a structured teaching programme in line with our Departmental training requirements & those of the CMSA.
    • Be a liaison & support to registrars & lecturers.
    • Be an active member of the departmental Registrar Training Committee.
    • Manage the formal teaching programme & adapt it as and when required.
    • Engage with all training requirements from the Faculty, such as attending Registrar training meetings.
    • Assist with recruitment & formal interviews of Registrars.
    • To keep abreast of training & examination needs from UCT &CMSA and be a skilled lecturer/examiner
    • To have a supervisory & supportive role in training requirements of Registrars Course and curriculum development Governance and audit of course/ evaluations
    • student liaison
    • course convening which included administration, exam boards, HPCSA audits etc

    Clinical

    • Experience in Clinical work relevant to above teaching e.g. Psycho-oncology, Women’s mental health and Consultation Liaison Psychiatry
    • Research
    • Completed Research relevant to above teaching interests and clinical Liaison Psychiatry
    • Remuneration will be at the level of Medical Specialist Grade 1 Notch 1 on the clinical payline.
