Senior Portfolio Manager (Construction & Guarantees) at Guardrisk

Role Purpose    

• Responsible for the growth and management of a portfolio of mid-corporate clients for the construction (contract) bonds & guarantees division.

Requirements    

• An undergraduate degree in the Built Environment or Finance
• Certificate in short-term insurance
• RE 5 certificate for Representatives
• FAIS compliant
• At least 5 years working experience as a contracts/commercial specialist/manager in engineering/construction/investment/mining firms or surety/guarantees division of an insurer/reinsurer/bank
• Minimum 5 years business management experience
• Knowledge of the infrastructure/construction contracts, engineering principles and commercial business

Duties & Responsibilities    

• Retain and grow the construction bonds & guarantees book in the mid-corporate segment
• Pursue relevant growth opportunities that would allow the Guarantees division to achieve its strategic targets and objectives
• Ensure that existing relationships with brokers and other role players are strengthened and built on a continuous basis
• Ensure that new relationships are established to support the growth plans of the greater Guarantees division
• Maintain relationships with all relevant clients and stakeholders within the assigned portfolio
• Evaluating client's needs and requirements to enhance cross selling of other Guardrisk products
• Achieving the annual business targets for the mid-corporate portfolio
• Mentoring & training junior members of the construction bonds & guarantees team
• Conduct primary risk assessment on guarantee facilities for the mid-corporate client segment
• Conduct primary risk assessment for guarantees transactions
• Executing transactions within the designated operational mandate
• Preparation of primary risk assessment reports
• Assess existing and new clients’ financial statements & prepare a primary financial risk assessment
• Co-ordinating documentation, role and responsibilities, agreements, system and legal requirements, processes and procedures
• Perform reference and credit checks for existing and new mid-corporate clients
• Contribute to enhancing underwriting standards in the construction bonds & guarantees division
• Build, maintain and continuously strengthen all relationships with the MMH Group’s product, support, reinsurance as well as broker partners
• Ensure that all regular interactions with any of the MMH Group’s reinsurance, broker or product partners are done at the highest possible level of professionalism
• Stay abreast of developments in the global guarantee & related insurance markets
• Maintain professional relationships with all customers, suppliers and trade connections of the MMH Group with a view to maintain and improve the group’s reputation and goodwill
