Senior Software Development Engineer - EC2 Placement Data Team at Amazon

The EC2 Placement Data team, is tasked with building and owning a data-plane for EC2 Placement and building a new Datalake service for EC2 Capacity Engineering. The team will utilize performance-optimized streaming to pull real-time data from multiple sources; join it; and vend it to our instance placement engine with minimized staleness. The team will also vend the data to support innovation of our simulation, prototyping, ML, and research. Given EC2's (Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud) scale, there are wide-ranging and sizeable up-sides to this initiative.

We have a vacancy for senior software development engineer to join this team. The role will be based at our Amazon Development Centre South Africa.

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of industry experience in a software development environment
• Industry experience designing and implementing large scale Datalakes and Datawarehouse solutions.
• Industry experience with bigdata technologies: Hadoop, Apache Spark, EMR, HBase, Flink, Hive, among others
• Experience in any of Java, Scala, Ruby, Python, C/C++ or C#
• Experience in data persistence or streaming
• Expertise in delivering high-quality, innovative applications
• Strong customer focus
• Strong computer science fundamentals
• Strong analytical skills with excellent problem solving abilities

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
• Experience in building high-performance real-time data processing systems.
• Experience with Linux, Git, and Java.
• Knowledge of system performance methodologies along with hands on empirical monitoring
• Strong desire to build, a sense of ownership, urgency, and drive
• Excellent written communication and verbal agility
