Senior Solar Engineer at Leap29

Leap29 are collaborating with a prominent company in the renewable energy sector, who focus on developing projects across South Africa and are positioned as a key player in the renewable energy sector.

My client are searching for a Senior Solar Engineer to oversee all of the Pre-Construction engineering aspects of utility-scale solar PV Projects, up to financial close. 

Responsibilities

• Supervise and oversee all Pre-Construction engineering aspects of utility-scale renewable energy Projects until Financial close.
• Prepare Request for Proposals, Employers Requirements, cost and budgetary estimates for the engineering, procurement, and construction of renewable generation facilities.
• Lead the Front-End Engineering Design for projects and engage in negotiations regarding EPC and O&M contract technical schedules, including liquidated damages, performance testing, and contract security provisions.
• Assist the Procurement Manager with Request for Proposal's (RFP's) that will be sent to potential Contractors for the competitive bidding process.
• Coordinate with external engineering firms, subcontractors, and internal engineering disciplines (civil, electrical, network, permitting) to ensure timely, cost-effective, and high-quality project completion.
• Define engineering contractual requirements that ensure projects are feasible and account for country/regional design cost impacts.
• Organize and oversee internal and external design review meetings, ensuring compliance with internal quality standards with a goal of achieving ISO9001 certification.
• Promote a culture of value engineering and encourage innovative approaches for top-tier system design.
• Aid Project Procurement by developing construction and electrical equipment specifications and conducting technical evaluations of EPC and subcontractor technical proposals.
• Review EPC and subcontractors' designs to verify compliance with project requirements and contractual commitments.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred, but other fields will be considered.
• 7+ years professional work experience with design of wind/solar Power Systems for utility installations, wind farms, PV plants, Battery Storage Systems.
• Experience in Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) for High Voltage Systems, Wind, Solar, or Conventional Power Generation.
• Familiarity with applicable codes, standards and regulations used in ZA.
• Experience within the Energy Storage business is beneficial.
• Ability to manage several projects with time-sensitive project deliverables simultaneously and deliver them on time and budget.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with contractors, advisors, consultants, and staff in a team environment.
