Senior Website Developer x 2 at The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC)

PURPOSE

• Effective and Efficient development, maintenance, support, and enhancement of SABC Digital products (Websites and Mobile Applications). Provide appropriate product development lead role in the entire product development lifecycle including design, development, deployment, and maintenance of new and existing features in line with business requirements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

BUSINESS OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY

• Design, Develop and implement SABC Digital products (Websites and Mobile Applications) solutions to meet business and end-user needs.
• Design, Develop and implement SABC Digital products (Websites and Mobile Applications) solutions following best practice coding standards, procedures and SABC Corporate identity.
• Design, Develop and implement SABC Digital products (Websites and Mobile Applications) solutions in agreed timelines and business requirements.
• Integrate existing as well as new applications or systems onto digital platforms where required.
• Appropriate debugging, troubleshooting, optimization and maintenance of digital products and code.
• Application testing, code reviews, performance, and stress testing of developed solutions for optimal performance.
• Develop, update, and maintain digital products technical documentation.
• Maintain code in the repository and build reusable code and libraries for digital products.
• Provide technical support to management to ensure that product goals are met and dependencies are managed.
• Regular and accurate reporting to management on digital product development progress.

GOVERNANCE, RISK AND COMPLIANCE

• Cooperation with regulatory and policy affairs to ensure compliance with broadcasting policies, legislation, regulations and licence conditions.
• Ensure compliance with SABC policy and procedures. 
• Ensure compliance with SABC Methodologies and Best practice standards for digital product development.
• Ensure compliance with the SABC digital products change and release management requirements.

STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT

• Work with various cross-functional stakeholders across the business to ensure requirements are met and dependencies are managed.
• Lead and ensure effective cohesion within the development team in the execution of development duties.
• Provide support, coaching, and training to the development team.

INHERENT/MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 QUALIFICATIONS

• Relevant 3-year Diploma/Degree NQF 6 in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Development, or related field.

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum 4 Years senior digital products (Web & Apps) development experience.
• At least 2 years of experience/exposure to team lead role.

In-depth knowledge and Experience in web development:

• Full-Stack development: PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML.

In-depth knowledge and Experience in mobile development for Android, iOS, and Huawei:

• Hybrid Apps: Cordova, Ionic
• Native Apps: React Native

KNOWLEDGE

• Knowledge and understanding of working in an Agile delivery environment (Scrum) is a must.
• Knowledge and understanding of Web and app design: UX, UI, Architecture
• Knowledge and understanding of WordPress: Theme and plugin development & installation and Page builders.
• Knowledge and understanding of working with REST APIs.
• Knowledge and understanding of Database management: SQL, MySQL.
