    SHE Practitioner

    ABOUT THE ROLE / PURPOSE OF THE JOB

    • To enable, support and facilitate the management and assurance of Occupational Safety, Health and Environment towards Zero Harm and Sustainability in a Risk-Based, proactive manner.

    FUNCTIONAL OUTPUTS

    Operational, Financial and Technical results:

    • Carry out duties and responsibilities of a legally appointed MHS Act Reg. 2.17.1 Safety Officer for Enaex Africa operations on mine (customer site) premises.
    • Carry out duties and responsibilities required by any other relevant legal appointment in terms of MHS Act, OHS Act appointment and other OHS legislation (e.g. incident investigator, H&S committee member)                                                                                                                                     
    • Ensure that work activities are in line with the SHE Strategic objectives and key focus areas.
    • ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 implementation and maintenance.
    • Facilitate the identification of occupational SHE hazards, associated risks, key undesirable events, and the associated preventive and corrective controls.
    • Enable the implementation of risk controls within Operations.
    • Facilitate workplace risk assessments (e.g. baseline, continuous and issue based)
    • Facilitate the execution of risk-based workplace occupational safety improvement interventions
    • Identify non-conformances, including incidents,
    • Conduct in depth investigations, facilitate root cause analysis,
    • Identify personal, workplace and organizational factors which may prevent incidents from occurring /recurring
    • Conduct regular inspections to identify at risk conditions and at-risk behaviours to prevent incidents and strive for zero harm.   
    • Occasionally facilitate SHE discussions (toolbox talks, SHE meetings or stand downs)

    Governance and assurance:

    • Conduct risk-based Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) audits with focus on critical risk controls.
    • Participate in the respective SHE meetings and stakeholder forums.
    • Monitor, review and effectiveness of SHE improvement initiatives.
    • Monitor and respond proactively to hazards in the workplace.
    • Lead workplace SHE inspections and coach Operations personnel.
    • Identify incident and injury trends and recommend and monitor mitigating control measures.
    • Participate in the roll out and maintenance of the SHE Improvement Plans.
    • Maintain Change management and communication initiatives.

    • Extract, benchmark, enrich, capture, and disseminate within knowledge management standards.

    Requirements

    JOB REQUIREMENTS
    QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

    • Relevant 3-year qualification in the Safety, Health, Environmental, Mining, Chemicals, or Explosives field
    • COMSOC 1 and COMSOC 2 (advantageous)
    • Blasting Certificate (advantageous)
    • ISO 9001, ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 Implementation and Auditing courses (advantageous)
    • 5 years’ relevant experience, preferably in mining, or chemicals and/or explosives industry.
    • The candidate must be medically fit to work on in mining, explosives, and chemicals operations.
    • Experience and/or ability to work in matrix reporting structure.
    • Preference will be given to qualifying candidates from the local communities.

    KEY COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

    • Ability to proactively identify shortcomings in the SHE Management System
    • Ability to work with digital SHEQ Risk management systems.
