JOB SUMMARY

Our client is a world's leading maritime services provider and is looking to hire a Ship Agency Operator for their Cape Town office.

Reporting to the Ships Agency Manager in South Africa the role will be responsible for attending all vessels within the scope of responsibility, in compliance with applicable work processes, standards and procedures, with special attention to correct, accurate and timely use of the operating system.

If you are an experienced Ships Agent, preferably you already have a solid understanding of the Shipping Industry and familiar with port regulations and procedure. You will need to possess a strong Health and Safety focus with a desire to get the job done, and get it done right.

In order to be shortlisted for this vacancy, the successful candidate will require the following skills and competencies, (but not limited to):-

• You will have a Maritime background and ideally have experience from Ship Agency Operations.

• You will require good communication skills and command of written and spoken English language.

• You will present an understanding of process and systems.

• You will be self-motivated and result orientated as well as proactive and possess the ability to anticipate issue to facilitate preventive measures.

• You will be able able to work under pressure.

• You will require problem solving skills with the ability to make fast and sound judgement.

• Ability to effectively plan & direct an operation without compromising on the safety to personnel and the vessels.

• You will be a good motivator and have team leadership skills.

• You should be familiar with Port & local Authorities regulations, procedures and governing tariffs.

• You will be computer literate.

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Attend and board vessels as required and as directed by respective Manager, in accordance with Standard of Operation and Customer Requirements

• Responsible for the effective coordination of assigned port calls, including husbandry and off-port limit calls

• Accurate port costs calculation for customer estimate enquiries

• Advice on selection of contractors for goods and services provided to principals, including submission of competitive quotations, as required

• Ensure compliance with Ships Agency processes, standards and procedures, including correct use of the operating system

• Establish and maintain vessel’s files and ensure that all transactional systems are updated real time

• Ensure proactive, efficient and timely communication at all times

• Ensure Cash-in-Transit (Cash to Master) as per procedure

• Comply with PPE Standard when working in ports/onboard vessels

• QHSSE matters in own function

• Provide input to improve the operational and cost efficiency of the port call.
