    Snr Technical Advisor - Climate Change Mitigation Policy - Pretoria

    As the Senior Technical Advisor, your responsibilities will include:

    • Gaining a comprehensive understanding of other program components and GIZ-assisted measures, along with the concepts and current implementation status, and being familiar with the experts and staff involved.
    • Being willing to undertake travel to project areas within South Africa as needed.

    Qualifications:

    • A University degree in a relevant field, preferably post-graduate, related to the program objectives. Examples include Climate Change, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Energy (Efficiency), Finance/Economics, Business Administration, or Engineering.

    Experience and Competences:

    • 10 years or more of relevant work experience in Climate Change and Project Management, with a strong background in advisory or consulting services.
    • Extensive knowledge of the Climate Change Policy landscape in South Africa and globally, focusing on Energy, Just Transition, Industry, and Transport.
    • Thorough understanding and work experience in international climate policy and UNFCCC processes, along with in-depth knowledge of South Africa's commitments under the UNFCCC.
    • Familiarity with Climate Change projects and activities implemented both in South Africa and internationally, with a specific emphasis on Energy, Just Transition, Industry, and Transport.
    • Specialist knowledge in GHG emission modeling and transition pathways, as well as expertise in Instruments for Environmental Policy, such as carbon tax, carbon budgets, sectoral emission targets, emission trading systems, and Green House Gas Inventories.
    • In-depth knowledge of energy policy and its implementation in South Africa, including its connection to the Just Transition agenda.
    • Proven experience in project proposal development and a successful track record in securing donor funding.

    • Openness to upskilling as necessary for the tasks at hand, with corresponding measures agreed upon with management.
    • Experience in organizing and conducting stakeholder engagement sessions with diverse groups.
    • Genuine passion for climate change and the green economy.
