Sports Reporter (Johannesburg, Pretoria or Cape Town) at Media24 (Pty) Ltd

Duties include, among others, the following:

• Identify story ideas for sports reports that will appeal to Netwerk24's readership;
• Develop story ideas into authoritative sports reports in Afrikaans;
• Stay up to date with sporting events;
• Build and maintain a strong contact base that enables Netwerk24 to remain the market leader in sports news in South Africa;
• Write creative, strong and well-researched sports news stories that use a variety of sources, and unique and engaging match reports.
• Assist with production duties that include publishing sports reports online.
• Willingness and availability to work irregular hours and often on weekends and holidays.

The successful candidate will possess the following characteristics:

• Excellent writing skills in Afrikaans;
• Experience as a sports journalist, in Afrikaans;
• Knowledge of the South African sporting landscape as well as international sporting events;
• Understanding the rules and nuances of the sports that are important to Netwerk24's readers;
• A sharp sense of news;
• A broad contact base;
• The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;
• The ability to work independently, but also as a member of a team.
