SQL Database Administrator - Tshwane at MECS (Pty) Ltd

Main Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science/engineering, information systems or related fields. A National Diploma will not be sufficient.
• At least five years' experience in database administration/architecture or related infrastructure.

Additional requirements

• Configuration, creation and management of a large number of database environments.
• Experience with cloud services.
• At least 2 years of experience (in addition to the minimum required experience) in configuring and managing High Availability solutions.
• Understanding of middle tier technologies
• Experience in leading projects to implement new or changed database solutions, particularly in the ERP domain
• Experience with integration of various systems in the production and and non-production space
• Strong performance tuning skills
• Weblogic, Workflow, Apache, Discoverer, Data warehouse and APEX
• Knowledge of and competence in the provision of ICT database services including:
• Specialist knowledge of the programming, implementation, configuration, support and maintenance of databases and associated architectures / infrastructures.
• Knowledge on networking, data centre design & infrastructure, database management and information security.
• In-depth technical knowledge of database solutions, engineering, and integration.
• Advanced database troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to design database systems and solutions.
• Thorough understanding of ICT best practices.
• Knowledge of data centre infrastructure systems.
• Knowledge of backup and restore procedures, methods, tools and policies.
• Familiarity with multiple databases, ETL tools, web applications and/or multiple programming languages.
• Ability to execute projects in compliance with sound project management methodology.
• Ability to apply logical thinking to gathering and analysing information, designing and testing solutions to problems, and formulating plans.
• Ability to visualize, articulate, and solve complex problems and concepts, and make decisions that make sense based on available information.
• Experience with database and ecosystem technologies such as Linux, Shell Scripts, MSSQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, and Querying tools.
• Strong command of SQL and SQL server tools
