Golder has a new opportunity for a Tailings Design Team Lead to join our Mine Waste team full-time based in Midrand. This is a senior level position in the Mine Waste team where you will be expected to provide functional output/duties including people management, business system including financials and business development, as well as project management and technical expertise, innovation and technical excellence in mine waste storage facilities.
Key duties and responsibilities will include:
Providing tailings services on projects in the mining industry;
Providing technical advice and consultancy on complex tailings issues to clients (external & internal);
Establishing and growing the Engineer of Record projects in the Business Unit;
Negotiating and reviewing routine project contracts;
Using advanced techniques, modifications and extension of theories, practices to synthesise and analyse data for decision making/ recommendations;
Keeping abreast of advancing technologies, methods and research & development;
Managing and analyzing tailings reporting for projects which may include construction of tailings deposits, operation and management of deposits, properties and behaviour of tailings, closure and deposits stability and seeping analysis, water storage dams and earthworks;
Developing and mentoring team of technical professionals who are able to collaborate and contribute towards healthy team mentality among peers;
Identify potential business opportunities, clients to grow team and commercial opportunities;
Participating in the development and implementation of engineering systems, tools, policies and protocols in line with the Mine Waste team; and
Promoting a health and safety best practice culture across the business.
Skills, Qualifications, and Experience
Relevant degree (BEng or BSc) in the Geotechnical / Civil Engineering including Professional registration at ECSA preferred;
Ideally 10 years plus experience post graduation;
Legislation related to engineering design supporting water use and waste management license applications;
Financial knowledge (Understanding of Work in Progress, Accounts Receivables and DSOs);
Proven skills/ experience to lead integrated project mine waste projects coupled with strong project management skills;
Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel (Advanced), MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook , MS Projects, Slope stability and seepage analysis software. Proficiency in other engineering related software will be considered beneficial.
