Technician: NRL Molecular Biology - Centurion at Ampath

Purpose of Position:

• To process specimens according to set criteria and standards on all benches in the Molecular Biology Laboratory.

Requirements:

• HPCSA Registration in Relevant Register and Practice Field, Relevant BSc Degree  (Required)

Required Experience:

• Experiential training in a training laboratory, Knowledge: HPCSA regulations, Knowledge: Meditech system, Knowledge: Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA)

Key Responsibilities:

• Analyse specimens on the different detection platforms in order to ensure efficient delivery of results,
• Assist with the development and evaluation of new assays when required,
• Maintain good client relations to promote the image of Ampath,
• Monitor stock levels and report to seniors and staff responsible for the materials management of the department,
• Perform accreditation and Quality Control related tasks to ensure standards are upheld,
• Perform HIV, HCV, HBV, CMV viral loads efficiently to ensure acceptable turn around times,
• Process specimens in the extraction area in order to ensure efficient delivery of results in the detection area
