Purpose Of the Job:

To safely prepare and conduct analytical tests on Raw Materials, Final Products and water samples with acceptable accuracy and precision.

Safety, Health, Environment and Quality:

• Participate and comply with SHEQ requirements (SHEQ Toolbox).
• Participate in formal SHEQ Audits.
• Adhere to all Quality standards as determined by ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 requirements.
• Adhere to all Samancor Chrome SHEQ standards and requirements relating to Safety Health and Environment.
• Logging of near-miss on IMS.

Work execution:

Analysis:

• The use of specific chemical analysis techniques, methods and equipment to measure and determine the chemical component of Ferrochrome, Chrome ore and Raw Material samples.
• Control of all Laboratory activities during shifts and responding appropriately to problems, emergencies, requests and incidents.
• Determine % Cr in Ore by using an automatic titrator (Wet Cr).
• Prepare and analyse samples for ICP, XRF, C and S analyser, TGA and Wet Cr analyses.
• Conduct basic tests on water samples
• Store samples for reference purposes
• Dispose of redundant samples as per procedure
• Update all results on LIMS
• Authorise results entered on LIMS
• Preform First Line Maintenance on all equipment
• Authorised to operate all chemical related equipment in the laboratory
• Participate in the laboratory scheme testing (round robin)
• Update of results on taps/process samples, final product consignments, raw materials and water samples.
• Interpreting analytical data to draw conclusions about the correctness of results
• Evaluating results in terms of product type
• Evaluating results in terms of relationships between major components of material

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

• Grade 12/N3
• Advanced Computer Literacy (MS Office)
• National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry/S4 or similar
