    Vice-Chancellor and Principal

    • The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) seeks to appoint a suitably qualified individual to the position of Vice-Chancellor and Principal. This five-year, performance based contract is the most senior leadership role at the university. The remuneration package is market-related.
    • The incumbent will be responsible for managing and administering the University, providing academic and strategic leadership to advance its vision, mission, values, and strategic priorities. Key responsibilities include: Developing and executing strategies and managing transformation initiatives; Overseeing resource and operations management; Implementing the Academic Plan focused on Teaching and Learning; Fostering a rigorous and accessible scholarship culture at TUT; Developing and implementing the TUT Academic Plan;  ngaging with the community through partnerships and collaborations; Overseeing institutional advancement; Audit and risk management, as well as quality assurance; Ensuring health and safety, as well as employee well-being; Managing human resources; Overseeing budget and finance; Conducting monitoring, evaluation, and reporting activities. This role is essential to ensure the continued success and progress of the University.

    Minimum Requirements
    Qualification

    • Relevant PhD/ Doctorate Degree (NQF Level 10)

    Experience

    • 15+ years of experience in higher education or research industry, of which at least 7 to 10 years must be at executive level (e.g. Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Executive Director or Dean, or equivalent).
    • Must have a full professorship (that meets the TUT criteria for professorship). 
    • An outstanding academic with extensive academic administration and management experience at a senior level.
    • An outstanding leader, inspirational, strategic and innovative, with an understanding of the importance of working in collaboration and partnership with staff, students and external partners, deeply committed to academic excellence and the success of the individuals and communities we serve.
    • High-level communication skills and a collaborative leadership approach, with high levels of self-awareness and proven ability to empower staff.
    • The vision and passion to create a life-changing and truly transformational student experience, inclusive of graduate employability and industry engagement.
    • An unquestionable track record of integrity, resilience, openness and honesty with a strong and demonstrable commitment to equality and social mobility throughout the institution.
    • Politically astute with a sound understanding of and ability to influence SA higher education policies, or evidence of an ability to quickly develop such an understanding.
    • Has an understanding of developments in the higher education arena locally in South Africa, and further afield.
    • The confidence and courage to take well-considered risks, drawing on the expertise of the university and its stakeholders, including members of Council.
