About The Position

A company with over 100 years of product development, engineering know-how, acquisitions and growth and became a world leader and global employer with over 1700 team members across 40 locations is looking for a Application Engineer to join their team.

• Optimise existing product designs to meet customer requirements, including material optimisation
• When necessary design new products
• Arrange for prototypes to be manufactured and tested, both in the development and in the field
• Responsible for controlling all drawings , including revisions and re-issuing of updated drawings in line with quality standards
• Carry out projects as identified in the Engineering Meeting and as decided on by the Engineering/Manufacturing Executive
• Responsible for assisting with the development and designing of tooling and other production equipment
• When necessary research and source technical equipment for quality control, production and maintenance purposes
• When necessary assist customers with identifying and correcting problems in the field
• Assist the Manufacturing Executive in identifying and implementing process and product improvements with the main aim of improving efficiencies and aligning with International production developments
• Assist with the renewal of the SA plant in terms of automation and cost reduction
• Chair and administrate the Engineering Meeting on a weekly basis
   

Minimum Requirements

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized University in South Africa
• Drawing Office Skills and the use of Solidworks and/or other CAD software
• Quality Management to ISO9001, Environmental management to ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 knowledge and skills
• Rail industry knowledge would be advantageous
• 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment

About The Position

• Collaborate within a team of developers to deliver high quality and efficient solutions
• Developing new software applications based on software requirement specifications and coding standards
• Refactoring and enhancing existing software
• Providing production support in issue resolution and root cause analysis
• Analyse and provide solutions to complex tasks and projects, providing accurate and timely work break-down estimates for project tasks.
• Participate in code reviews and internal testing to ensure the solution is of high standard.
• Work alongside Testers to test, debug and improve faulty application code, identifying bottlenecks and bugs, and devising solutions to these issues.
