    Credit Analyst

    Description
    We are searching for a highly motivated and energetic Credit Analyst. The Credit Analyst will provide critical credit expertise, enabling informed investment decisions and effective risk management within the infrastructure fund.

    Requirements
    ROLE OVERVIEW AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Credit Analyst will provide critical credit expertise, enabling informed investment decisions and effective risk management within the infrastructure fund, and will be responsible for, inter alia:

    • Credit Risk Assessment: Evaluating the creditworthiness of potential borrowers or investments, including analysis of financial statements, credit reports, and industry trends.
    • Creditworthiness Evaluation: Assessing the ability of borrowers to repay loans, considering factors like cash flow, collateral, and industry risks.
    • Risk Rating Assignment: Assigning credit ratings to borrowers based on their creditworthiness, using established rating criteria.
    • Credit Memorandum Preparation: Preparing comprehensive credit memoranda, summarizing credit analysis and recommendations for investment decisions.
    • Portfolio Monitoring: Continuously monitoring the credit quality of the fund's portfolio, identifying potential risks and opportunities for improvement.
    • Research and Analysis: Conducting in-depth research and analysis on specific industries, markets, or companies to inform credit decisions.
    • Collaboration with Investment Team: Working closely with the investment team to provide credit insights and recommendations, ensuring alignment with investment strategies.
    • Compliance and Regulatory Reporting: Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and maintaining accurate credit records and reports.
    • The Credit Analyst provides critical credit expertise, enabling informed investment decisions and effective risk management within the infrastructure fund.
    • Supporting the MD to further operationalise the Fund.
    • Support the establishment and development of the Fund’s policies, governance structures, business plans and strategies in alignment with the NIF’s goals and objectives.
    • Support the MD to attract additional capital for the Fund, project development partners and leveraging third party co-investment for opportunities, from local and international partners and players (whether financial or strategic).

    REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES

    Experience:

    •  Minimum 3-5 years in credit analysis, risk assessment, or related fields
    •  Experience in financial analysis, accounting, or investment banking
    •  Familiarity with infrastructure investing, finance, or related sectors

    Attributes:

    •  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    •  Excellent financial modelling and data analysis abilities
    •  Effective communication and report-writing skills
    •  Ability to work under pressure, meeting deadlines
    •  Strong attention to detail and high accuracy standards
    •  Knowledge of credit risk assessment methodologies and models
    •  Understanding of financial markets, instruments, and regulations
    •  Professional certifications like CFA, CAIA, or CPA are advantageous

    Key skills:

    • Financial statement analysis and interpretation
    • Credit risk modelling and rating methodologies
    • Industry research and trend analysis
    •  Financial modelling and forecasting
    • Data analysis and data visualization
    • Effective communication of credit recommendations
    • Strong Excel and financial software skills (e.g., Bloomberg, S&P Capital IQ)

    The Credit Analyst should be a detail-oriented, analytical, and communicative professional, able to provide high-quality credit analysis and recommendations to support informed investment decisions in the infrastructure fund.

    Knowledge of the infrastructure sector:

    An understanding of:

    • the role that infrastructure plays in shaping the economy locally and globally
    • the role that infrastructure plays in creating value for stakeholders
    •  An understanding of new trends in the infrastructure sector locally and globally.
    •  Knowledge of various infrastructure sub-sectors such as water, transportation, energy, etc.
    •  An understanding of the current participants in the South African and global infrastructure sector, and the players that have the potential to be future participants and partners.

    Other Skills, Experience and Attributes:

    • Highly proactive, with an entrepreneurial attitude.
    • Strong interest in South Africa and contributing to the development of the local economy and infrastructure eco-system

    Investment Officer

    ROLE OVERVIEW AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • The Investment Officer is a critical team member who supports the investment process, conducts financial analysis, and assists in deal execution, requiring a strong foundation in finance, investing, and research. In this role, the Investment Officer will be responsible for, inter alia:
    • Deal Sourcing: Identifying potential investment opportunities through research and market analysis.
    • Due Diligence: Assisting in the preparation of due diligence reports, conducting data room reviews, and coordinating with external advisors.
    • Financial Analysis: Building financial models, analyzing investment returns, and preparing investment memoranda.
    • Research and Market Analysis: Conducting industry research, market analysis, and trend identification.
    • Deal Execution: Assisting in deal structuring, negotiating terms, and preparing legal documents.
    • Portfolio Management: Monitoring and reporting on portfolio performance, identifying value enhancement opportunities.
    • Investment Committee Support: Preparing investment committee materials, coordinating meetings, and maintaining records.
    • Compliance and Regulatory Support: Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, maintaining records, and assisting with audits.
    • Investor Relations: Assisting with investor communications, preparing investor reports, and maintaining relationships.

    Support MD 

    • Supporting the MD to further operationalise the Fund.

    REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES

    Financial analysis and modelling:

    • Strong proficiency in financial modelling, data analysis, and financial statement analysis

    Investment knowledge:

    •  Understanding of infrastructure investing, private equity, or investment banking

    Research and due diligence:

    •  Ability to conduct thorough research and due diligence on potential investments

    Deal execution:

    • Experience with deal structuring, negotiation, and closing

    Financial markets and regulations:

    • Familiarity with financial markets, regulations, and industry trends

    Communication and presentation:

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex ideas

    Problem-solving and adaptability:

    • Ability to navigate complex situations and adapt to changing circumstances

    Teamwork and collaboration:

    • Ability to work effectively in a team and collaborate with colleagues

    Time management and organization:

    • Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines

    Academic qualifications:

    • A Bachelor’s degree majoring in Business, Engineering, Economics or Finance

    Experience:

    • 2-5 years of experience in infrastructure investing, private equity, investment banking, or a related field
    • Experience in financial analysis, modelling, and research
    • Familiarity with deal execution and due diligence processes
    • Proven investment analysis and deal execution experience.
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in infrastructure and/or project development, taking projects through the lifecycle from pre-feasibility to financing.
    • Experience in working with third parties to advance projects through the project development lifecycle, including offtake considerations and project financing
    •  Extensive negotiation and influencing skills; experience with managing multiple projects and diverse stakeholder groups
    •  Project management and reporting skills for infrastructure projects

    Knowledge of the infrastructure sector:

    • An understanding of:
      • the role that infrastructure plays in shaping the economy locally and globally
      • the role that infrastructure plays in creating value for stakeholders
    • An understanding of new trends in the infrastructure sector locally and globally.
