Job Purpose
- To implement, control and manage the procurement process incorporating best business practices within SAAT area, whilst proactively reducing the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) by negotiating long term supply and service agreements with vendors selected via a tender process, reducing the vendor base and administration costs though e-commerce solutions without compromising personnel safety and that of aircraft as defined in the prescribed regulation guidelines of the applicable aviation authorities.
Principal Accountabilities
- Implement commodity sourcing strategies ad plans in order to maximize financial benefits for SAAT.
- Develop and implement a procurement plan for projects so that direction and objectives of the department are optimally planned, executed and monitored in line with the companies’ objectives and policies
- Plan long term and short-term strategies for commodities, that will result achieving optimal benefit for the organisation (pricing, reciprocal work, discounts, etc)
- Analyse SAAT spend data to identify supply chain projects in order to maximise financial benefit
- Consult with Engineering and SAA Fleet when reviewing alternatives for commodity groups.
- Generate timelines to provide projects in order of value enhancements to SAAT
- Ensure that Benchmarking, Spend Analysis, Research, etc are accomplished to reduce costs in the organisation
- Co-ordinate and run tender process in accordance to policy and negotiate with recommended vendors before contracting
- Negotiate or plan negotiation strategies within their teams
- Ensure that savings are generated and savings targets are met
- Implement market related and all benchmarked comparisons to focus on TCO reductions and value creation initiatives.
- Identify potential candidates for value managed relationships by market research and historical support.
- Develop, implement and monitor TCO modelling in line with SAAT’s objectives and plan policies.
- Co-ordinate an implementation/transition of all approved projects
- Establish leverage and sharing of best practises by developing relationships with stakeholders of other airlines
- Evaluate and negotiate contract and business decisions
- Assess business requirements, end user needs and supply market capabilities for relevant commodity groups
- Employ various strategies e.g. consignment agreements, staggered orders, take into consideration maintenance schedules when negotiating contracts.
- Develop and implement an interface with operational procurement to control vendor performance and improve information flow
- Verify and evaluate critical requirements and suggest alternative solutions
- Carry out due diligence
- Ensure good governance in all contracts and projects
- Implement Strategic Procurement contract decisions in order to ensure compliance with agreed SLA’s.
- Manage the resolution of contractual discrepancies to ensure adherence.
- Implement management control measures for vendor compliance with contractual issues
- Review contracts periodically with vendors and provide feedback to all relevant stakeholders
- Build and maintain supplier relationship through constructive interaction
- Oversee, monitor and control overall procurement deliverables
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in B.com Engineering or B.com and 5 years’ procurement experience (Airline experience will be advantageous)

- 3 years’ experience, and a relevant NFQ 5 Purchasing qualification
OR
- Senior Buyer with 6 years’ experience and relevant qualification
OR
- Technician with 2 years’ experience, and relevant Purchasing qualification plus 3 years’ procurement experience
OR
- Technical diploma (N6/T3) with 5 years Technical buying experience and relevant Purchasing qualification
Must have a valid driver’s license

Job Purpose
- Analyse the aircraft maintenance operations and ensure the highest aviation technical standards are met on all SAA and Foreign Operators aircraft entered into contract with SAA Technical.
Principal Accountabilities
Comply to a system for controlling defects on aircraft and/or Powerplant to ensure that defects are rectified with minimum interruption to the flight schedule.
- Assist with trouble shooting on a real time basis, determine corrective action for all defects and co-ordinate rectification thereof and maintain, scrutinise and analyse records of all defects reported in relevant aircraft documentation, flight crew and technical irregularity and incidents reports, information from base stations, line stations and flying crew.
- Reduce the number of recurring defects by ascertaining that all rectification actions are correct, issue instructions for irregularities as required and follow up to ensure that there are no further reports.
- Provide possible rectification to flying crew regarding anomalies encountered whilst in flight.
- Work in conjunction with MCC Power Plants on engine and APU related defects.
- Interface with all departments concerned to ensure that defects are actioned at the most convenient time, in the most cost effective manner and arrange to have the required spares available.
- Co-ordinate and carry out aircraft defect rectification as required at main base and line stations.
- Scrutinise and monitor Amos fleet tracker APN to keep sight of required maintenance tasks/actions
- Capture and maintain aircraft and/or Powerplant maintenance information in the Management Information system (MIS).
- Constantly seek ways to improve aircraft efficiency by striving to find better ways of defect tracking and rectification.
Comply to Quality Standards and Regulations in order to minimise SAAT’s exposure to risk.
- Release or reject spares from the STAC store after the component serviceability has been determined
- Update all maintenance manuals and wiring diagrams.
- Scrutinise Engineering Change Authorisations (GT/2and sign pre-approval as required.
- Analyse and compile auto land reports in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications to determine current aircraft status.
- Downloading of CMC data, scrutinising data and post flight reports and also filing of data.
- Receive and process ACARS reports.
- Adhere to safety, health and environmental regulations so as to maintain a safe and healthy working environment.
- Pre-approval of extension of aircraft hours on form GT/16A after reviewing aircraft status.
Maintain customer satisfaction at the highest possible level
- Assist foreign airlines requiring technical assistance.
- Consider the implication of significant defects and if required arrange to have aircraft re-routed to a suitable repair facility with minimum disruption to passengers and operating schedule.
- Provide cover and assistance to the fleet support manager with regards to customer support and requests during shift
- Be innovative and provide solutions that would be safe and minimise customer schedule interruption when defects occur during shift.
Liaise with all internal and external stakeholders to ensure continuous safe operations
- Consult with workshops/engineering regarding components removed from aircraft to minimise recurring defects by identifying troublesome systems as well as rogue components.
- Assist corporate safety with investigations regarding cabin defects and passenger complaints.
- Liaise with maintenance managers, Quality Assurance and inspection sections regarding aircraft status and answer Flying Crew and Maintenance Personnel queries on aircraft systems.
- Liaise with aircraft manufacturers representatives.
- Provide constant update to the fleet support manager with regards to all progress and challenges faced during shift
Qualifications & Experience
- Passed a Avionic or Mechanical apprenticeship Trade test with a minimum of 10 years maintenance experience.
- Must have obtained Aircraft Certification, Shop Certification and Maintenance release. With a high level of knowledge of JAR, FAA and CAA Regulations.
- PC Literate (MS Office Packages) MEMIS, Microsoft Outlook.
- Have good knowledge of SAAT as an organization.
- Good customer service orientation.
- Must have passed the relevant aircraft courses.
- Have very good interpersonal skills.

- 10+ years’ experience in Aviation, MRO, engineering, aerospace, logistics or manufacturing sector.

- Proven experience leading organisational turnaround, transformation, commercial transactions and growth initiatives.
- Experience operating within a regulated environment is essential.
