    Project Accountant, Programme Management Unit

    • Reporting to the Project Finance Lead in the Programme and Operations Management Unit (POM), the Project Accountant’s responsibility is to maintain the accurate financial management of the projects and to provide a solution-focused approach to ensure day-to-day support to the practices. The key responsibilities include developing and managing project budgets aligned with client requirements, monitoring expenses, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with funding regulations. The Project Accountant also manages the funds disbursement to subgrantees, establishes internal controls, reviews subgrantees’ financial reports, coordinates audits, and provides financial insights for informed decision-making. 

    Type:

    • This is a fixed-term contract position starting as soon as possible (ASAP) and running through the end of December 2027. Future extension is subject to project pipeline availability and business requirements, though not guaranteed.

    KEY ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Project Finance Management Support

    • Monitor financial administration of projects to ensure consistency with commercial and grant financial requirements and Genesis’ commercial strategy.
    • Provide practices with monthly financial reports as required in terms of LOE, actual project costs, burn rates, etc, ensuring that the financial reporting can be carried out appropriately.
    • Monitor the disbursement of funds to subgrantees according to approved budgets.
    • Support the project manager in the review of financial reports submitted by subgrantees and assess budget compliance.
    • Assist in the development of new financial procedures to better support the delivery of projects, including managing budget trackers, burn rates reporting and other tracking tools.
    • Set up and maintain budget tracking on all projects - monitoring, reporting, and analysing budget variances.
    • Manage cashflow projections and reports.
    • Assist with client project audits and end of year audits.
    • Prepare advances, sales invoices, work-in-progress, assist with credit control, and process purchase invoices.
    • Ability to interpret tax invoices and compliance to tax requirements in South Africa and other countries.
    • Liaise with the Finance department on any issues and necessary changes in processes.
    • Consolidate financial information of all projects in the closing phase, ensuring no discrepancies or violations of commercial agreements have occurred.
    • Keep project finance records and provide assistance in financial reporting as requested.
    • Ensure that all invoicing is completed with the agreed upon timelines.
    • Assist with new project proposals and budgeting where necessary.

    Finance Support

    • Support the Corporate Finance team as needed on queries on the projects.
    • Participate in relevant Finance meetings.

    Other Responsibilities

    • Educate and promote the staff’s understanding of financial processes and policies.
    • Assist with induction of new joiners.
    • Other tasks as agreed.

    Requirements
    EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND PERSONAL COMPETENCIES:

    • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field
    • At least 2 years of experience in grant management, financial management and accounting, preferably in the context of donor funded projects
    • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams

    Finance and Projects Operations Manager

    SUMMARY OF THE ROLE

    • This hybrid, highly collaborative position integrates elements of consulting practice administration, operations management, and client project coordination. Reporting directly to the Frontier Technologies Partner, you will be instrumental in delivering seamless practice operations and project-level support. The chosen candidate will support financial controls, reporting and administration, commercial modelling, multi-stakeholder projects, champion internal enterprise systems, and manage the recruitment administration lifecycle; ultimately enabling our consultants to focus on high-quality client delivery.

    IDEAL CANDIDATE

    • Our ideal candidate will need high energy and high agency, with a proven ability to work with a senior team. Exceptional operations management skills, including financial administration, human resource capacity planning, team co-ordination, project management, and general practice administration support to the senior team. The ideal candidate has 5 or more years experience, at least 2 in an operations management role. Experience in consulting firms is highly advantageous. An undergraduate degree in business administration, operations, project management, finance/accounting or a related field is required. Project management certifications advantageous. Candidates must legally be able to work in either South Africa or Kenya. 

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Practice Finances (30% Weighting)

    • Establish strong working relationships with group and project finance units to ensure streamlined financial management and operational reporting
    • Oversee the practice orderbook, ensuring precise data entry of actuals and accurate projection mapping for all internal projects
    • Utilize ERP platforms (specifically Sage Intacct) to support the Partner with financial reporting, including firm-wide quarterly submissions and monthly revenue/cost analyses
    • Conduct thorough reviews of management accounts to ensure correct recognition and recording of all costs and revenues.
    • Handle client invoicing, purchase orders, subcontractor disbursements, and end-of-project financial reconciliations.
    • Partner with Project Managers and other practice administrators to track inter-practice projects and coordinate revenue-sharing frameworks

    Project Administration  (25% Weighting)

    • Billable Projects internal systems and contracting co-ordination: Set up, update, and monitor project records within the Genesis ERP framework. Coordinate contracting processes and onboarding workflows for external subcontractors. Manage procurement procedures, purchase orders, and general consultant contracting workflows.
    • Deliver targeted financial support to Project Managers when required, including budget tracking template setups, invoicing oversight, expense monitoring, subcontractor payment tracking, and margin analysis. Monitor project resource allocations, tracking contractor and staff hours alongside burn rates against defined project budgets.
    • In some instances, be the billable PM on client projects: Provide end-to-end administrative oversight for consulting engagements, from project launch through to final close-out. Monitoring project milestones, timelines, delivery schedules, budgets, and operational actions to ensure timely invoicing, contractor payments, and expense recognition. 

    Business Development Support (25% Weighting)

    • Co-ordinate each bid sprint, from go-no-go decisions, to resource allocation to BDU support, to final delivery
    • Lead teaming proposals and engagement with external ICs. 
    • Lead financial proposals that are fully compliant with corporate templates and financial pricing models
    • Maintain the practice Opportunity Tracker to ensure pipeline projections are consistently up to date
    • Manage and maintain practice marketing collateral, including corporate capabilities (corp caps), consultant CVs, IC data bases. 

    Practice Administration Support (15% Weighting)

    • Capacity Planning: Ensure timesheet compliance across the practice, tracking utilization metrics to inform capacity planning, forecast capacity a month out, work with the team leads to allocate capacity for both billable and non billable (proposal) work.
    • Plan and coordinate team meetings, seasonal social events, farewell gatherings, and the annual practice strategy retreat.
    • Maintain and organize the practice's shared Google Drive workspace.
    • Provide high-level administrative support to the Partner, including schedule coordination, expense reporting, and travel planning.
    • Identify operational bottlenecks, refine delivery frameworks, and establish standardized templates and operating guidelines. Be AI forward thinking in all we do.
    • Lead operational and administrative workflows, proactively driving process optimization and efficiency

    Recruitment & People Operations (5% Weighting)

    • Oversee the administrative lifecycle of recruitment utilizing the firm’s Applicant Tracking System (ATS). Review and Screen applications against role requirements. 
    • Manage recruitment documentation in accordance with company policy and employment legislation. Coordinate recruitment workflows between Hiring Managers, HR and interview panels. Schedule interviews and assessments.
    • Assist with new hire orientation, onboarding programs, and initial integration.
    • Track and manage team leave register.

    Requirements

    PFM Consultant

    Description

    • We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated PFM Consultant to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of development economics and public finance management (PFM), coupled with proven experience working with African Ministries of finance or major donor organizations that provide technical assistance to Ministries of finance. This role requires a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Economic Analysis & Strategic Reporting: Conduct rigorous quantitative analysis on macro-economic trends and public finance issues. You will prepare high-quality, policy-relevant briefs and presentations that translate complex data into actionable advice for senior government officials.
    • PFM Diagnostics and Technical Assistance: Lead the design of reforms across the entire budget cycle, including:
    • Medium-Term Expenditure Frameworks (MTEF) and the expenditure chain.

    Senior Project Accountant - Grants and Sub-Grantee Financial Management

    • Oversee the financial management, reporting, compliance, and administration of grant-funded projects. The successful candidate will bring strong expertise in grant accounting and sub-grantee management, ensuring that project funds are used appropriately, financial reports are accurate and timely, and all donor, regulatory, and organisational requirements are met.

    • Support internal and external audits, donor audits, and financial reviews; prepare schedules, documentation, and responses to audit queries.
    • Monitor and address audit findings and recommendations within agreed timelines.
    • Ensure costs are allowable, allocable, reasonable, adequately supported, and charged to the appropriate funding source.

    Collaboration and Stakeholder Support:

    • Work closely with program, grants, procurement, and finance teams to ensure smooth project implementation.
    • Train project staff and sub-grantees on financial policies, donor requirements, and reporting standards.
    • Participate in project review meetings and provide financial insights.
    • Serve as a key finance contact for assigned grants, donors, and partners.

    Requirements
    Qualifications and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
    • Professional accounting qualification or progress toward one, such as CA(SA), ACCA, CIMA, CPA, or equivalent, would be an advantage.
    • At least 5-8 years of progressive accounting or financial management experience, including substantial experience with grant-funded projects, with strong preference of experience of working with international development donors and foundations such as Gates Foundation, MasterCard Foundation, FCDO, GAVI, etc.
    • Demonstrated experience on financial management of sub-grantees, implementing partners, or downstream recipients.
    • Strong knowledge of grant compliance, donor reporting, budgeting, cost allocation, and financial monitoring.
    • Experience supporting audits and responding to audit findings.
    • Proficiency in accounting systems and advanced Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets skills.
