    Manager: Individual, Trusts, Estates and Expatriate Compliance - JHB North

    Description

    BDO Johannesburg has a vacancy for a Manager within the Individual, trusts, estates, and expatriate compliance business unit - Tax Department. Reporting to the leadership of the business unit. Functions may include, inter alia:

    • Assisting BDO to achieve its financial targets driving the BDO brand, business development, tax competence and client service in line with BDO values.
    • Quality control of all deliverables and ensuring compliance with the BDO risk policies and procedures to ensure meeting of statutory deadlines.
    • Producing accurate work to a high technical standard.
    • Coaching and mentoring junior staff.
    • Adapting to a changing work environment to accommodate changing client demands.
    • Interpreting and applying theoretical knowledge to practical business solutions by utilizing a sound knowledge of basic tax laws.
    • Gathering information from various sources by using effective research tools. 
    • Assisting with the research and preparation of proposals.
    • Drafting technically correct opinions and reports for review and providing tax opinions and advice to clients.
    • Preparing and/or reviewing income tax returns and supporting tax schedules.
    • Preparing and/or reviewing provisional tax calculations.
    • Preparing and/or reviewing objections and appeals.
    • Assisting clients with tax issues, SARS audits and queries.
    • Liaising with SARS.
    • Managing staff, financial discipline including monthly invoices and outstanding debtors.

    Requirements

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum B. Com.
    • Preferably post graduate qualification in Tax or B. Com Hons.

    Experience:

    • Member of South African Institute of Taxation (SAIT)
    • Registered Tax Practitioner
    • Minimum of 15 years’ tax experience  
    • 5 years’ managerial experience

    Competencies:

    • Technically strong with provisions of Income Tax Act and Tax Administration Act affecting personal tax, trust tax and estate duty, payroll tax, capital gains tax, including Fourth, Seventh and Eighth Schedules to the Income Tax Act.
    • Experienced and competent with SARS eFiling, SARS contact centres and SARS systems and procedures.
    • Experienced and competent with management of client portfolios and time management.
    • Excellent communication skills (including verbal and written)
    • Able to work independently with minimal supervision while being task and client deliverables driven.
    • Collaborative and able to adapt to working as part of a larger team.
    • Focus of risk processes and procedures.
    • Planning and organisational skills, leadership skills and negotiating skills.
    • Need to be assertive and pro-active and able to deal with statutory deadline pressures.

    Senior Applications Specialist - JHB North

    Description

    Main Duties & Responsibility

    • Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify and recommend improvements to existing applications or design and develop new applications to meet specific business needs.
    • Work with other developers in the team to design custom applications or enhance existing applications to meet unique business needs
    • Create reports on project status, including development timelines, and identify potential problems that may cause delays in completion
    • Communicate effectively and efficiently with team members, stakeholders, and end-users to ensure successful implementation and adoption
    • Collaborate with team members to develop and maintain technical documentation, user manuals, and other supporting materials.
    • Test new applications and enhancements in QA and in Production to ensure a successful deployment.
    • Ensure the Change Management Process is followed when new applications or enhancements are released.
    • Coordinate with IT support staff to troubleshoot technical issue while adhering to and ensuring SLA levels are met on the ticketing system.
    • Provide technical support for the Applications implemented across the organization.
    • Maintain the software asset database

    Requirements

    Qualifications, Recognition of Prior Learning, Work Experience, and Knowledge.

    Qualifications/Recognition of Prior Learning equivalent.

    • Relevant degree in Information Science, Computer Science or Commerce

    Work Experience

    • Minimum 5 years in deploying and testing applications or enhancements
    • Experience in developing RESTful APIs, web services, and microservices
    • Experience in front-end development with React, Angular, or similar frameworks

    Knowledge

    • Excellent knowledge of software development methodologies such as Agile
    • Solid understanding of data structures, field types and system data relationships.
