    Team Leader , Credit Evaluation Management

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    • Lead a team of Credit Evaluation Managers and/or Officers who assess and evaluate lending applications for clients/small businesses (including self-employed applicants) based on sound credit risk and affordability assessments, financial principles and credit policies which will manage growth of the asset book of the bank with a view of minimising losses and mitigating credit risks. This will include the spectrum of lending products available to Consumer clients.

    Credit Evaluations

    • Makes prudent credit decisions on lending applications and authority sought requests within the parameters of the relevant individual product policies and/or multiple product policy, relevant regulatory requirements such as the National Credit Act and sound financial principles.
    • Determines the best possible lending solution for the client and the Bank.
    • Considers the requirement for collateral, guarantees, pre-conditions, post-conditions, and covenants.
    • Supports Managers: Credit Evaluations in understanding clients and businesses and finding solutions for clients’ needs
    • Prepares motivations and recommendations for applications falling outside the delegated authority and presents this to appropriate authority levels.

    Client Engagement

    • Attends client visits to understand clients and their businesses in need. Client engagements may be in person or telephonic, at branches, suites, or client premises.
    • Supports business to understand clients and whether lending opportunities fall within risk appetite
    • Engages watchlist clients as required in support of Credit Risk teams.

    Credit Risk management

    • Supports the Credit Risk team as required to ensure performance of their responsibilities.
    • Pro-actively identifies opportunities to improve processes and systems within the business unit to enhance risk management and efficiencies.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Preferable: B/Comm Accounting or Financial Management  or Credit Diploma 

    Experience Required
    5-7 years

    • Good knowledge and understanding of Credit Risk Management, managing a Team, experience in intuitive credit assessment and decisioning in relevant segment and products. Knowledge and understanding of financial statements. Knowledge and understanding of repayment structures, collateral and collection processes within the banking environment

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    To lead, manage & deliver an integrated and independent Risk Management Function to enable South Africa to seize opportunities in pursuit of growth, by managing Non-Financial Risks in a manner that balances the interests of clients and other stakeholders, while protecting the safety of the Enterprise, ensuring the ethical standards are adhered to. 

    • To co-ordinate the establishment and maintenance of an effective risk management system including ensuring appropriate processes are in place to identify, assess, measure, manage, monitor and report on all material risks to which SIL is exposed.
    • To promote a sound risk culture within SIL, ensuring appropriate ownership and management of risks at all levels.
    • To establish clear, effective and efficient governance processes associated with the oversight, approval and delegation of authority with regards to risk related activities.
    • To ensure alignment of the SIL risk management system with the policies, standards and processes set at an SBG and IAM level.
    • To develop, shape and own the risk appetite, risk standards and risk management operations of SIL. 
    • To enable SIL to consciously seize opportunities in pursuit of growth, by managing business and associated risks in a manner that balances the interests of clients and other stakeholders, while protecting the safety and soundness of the business thereby ensuring the right risk-reward balance is achieved.
    • To support the maintenance and oversight of the risk management system for short-term insurance across all entities within SBG.
    • Owns and drives the process of embedding the SAM (Solvency Assessment and Management) Pillar II Risk and Governance frameworks and requirements for SIL in terms of the Insurance Act and related Standards.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Honours Commerce Degree 
    • Preferred: Master's Commerce Degree 
    • Post graduate degree in Risk Management (Member of the Institute of Risk Management in South Africa)
    • Post graduate qualification in Insurance: Fellow of the Insurance Institute of South Africa
    • Post graduate degree in Actuarial Science (Member of the Actuarial Society of South Africa (ASSA) and/ or associated international professional membership)
    • Chartered Accountant (Member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and/or associated international professional membership)
