    Senior Technical Manager

    PURPOSE

    An exciting opportunity exists to proactively manage the operational technical and strategic risk of Fraser Alexander and to provide technical support to the operations, with a focus on the Tailings Division. Development and implementation of company technical risk strategy and growth initiatives.

    Requirements

    RESPONSIBILITIES 

    Operational

    • Implement, improve and manage an integrated risk management system (“TORAS”) for all tailings operations
    • Monitor and report on technical risks by means of ongoing technical audits
    • Regular monitoring of the performance of any geotechnical structures, observing and reporting on effectiveness of maintenance of all  tailings storage facilities
    • Ensure due diligence by the effect communicating of any technical risk pro-actively and urgently as and when required
    • Facilitate risk assessments on facilities identified as facilities of concern
    • Develop and agree risk mitigation measures
    • Assess operational needs on an ongoing basis in terms of services provided, training and continuous improvement
    • Manage and present internal technical training
    • Undertake technical assessments of tailings operations including stability assessments, life assessments, water balances etc.
    • Prepare technical audit reports
    • Undertake studies and designs related to the construction, development and closure of tailings facilities

    Optimisation

    • Ensure continuous improvement to optimise the effective functioning of the Technical Risk Department
    • Work closely with operations on contracts to ensure that appropriate recommendations and estimations have been made and accurate costings are submitted for project deliverables and performance.
    • Deliver on the value proposition to FA Operations as per agreed scope of work.
    • Drive Digitalisation initiatives.
    • Develop and Implement approved policies and practices

    SHEQ Management

    • Ensure compliance with all statutory and company legislation
    • Recommend improvements and corrective actions where appropriate
    • Manage Safety, Health, Environment and Quality of technical risk systems and processes

    People Management

    • Help develop a pipeline of suitable professionals to support the future of FA Tailings Division
    • Ensure continuous capacity building of employee by applying effective L&D strategies
    • Ensure an engaged workforce through effective leadership

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • BSc Eng (Civil) or BTech (Geotechnical Engineering) (Essential/Minimum)
    • Professional Registration (Essential/Minimum)
    • Post Degree qualification will be advantageous (Essential/Minimum)
    • MRD 101, 201 (Recommended/Desirable)

    EXPERIENCE

    • Minimum of 10 Years applicable experience
    • High level knowledge of civil and geotechnical aspects, best practice, its implementation, and the laws and regulations.
    • Continuous drive and focus to comply with relevant legislative requirements

    Metallurgical Solutions Specialist

    Description

    • This position exists to investigate, identify, develop and implement new and existing metallurgical technologies in unique combinations on projects that will transform mine waste into triple bottom line value thus, providing new metallurgical solutions (NMS) globally.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Project management

    • Existing project support – technological improvement to ensure efficiency.
    • New project support – implement new metallurgical solutions to diversify our mineral processing service offering.

    NextGen Solutions

    • Assist the Mineral Processing team to develop and implement operational readiness plans.
    • Develop equipment and operational costing models for Fine and Ultra-fine Mineral Recovery, Supermag, Filtered Tailings and any other NMS.
    • Consultant liaison to understand needs and opportunities in the market and integration of the Mineral Processing and Tailings divisions to deliver on differentiating NMS.

    Communication, consultation and knowledge sharing

    • Client liaison to understand needs, opportunities and NMS implementation.
    • Ongoing knowledge transfer through coaching, mentoring and thought leadership.
    • Skills transfer – guide technical and operational teams.

    Continuous improvement

    • Suggest, create, champion and implement new Special Projects to manage via the SPO.
    • Enhance SHEQ and apply the organisation’s ESG principles.
    • Continuous review and improvement on efficiency of new solutions being implemented – data gathering, analysis, improvement.

    Requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Degree / diploma in chemical, mineral processing or metallurgical engineering or other relevant.
    • A business qualification will be advantageous.
    • Leadership development.

    EXPERIENCE

    • 20+ years’ experience in metallurgical projects and business development.
    • In depth understanding of mineral processing, process risk, management, operations, estimating, budgeting, cost control, and the mining industry.
    • RSA, Africa and International experience in the mining industry.
    • Implementation of new innovations and evolution within the mining industry.
    • Leadership experience.
    • Ability to think strategically and execute initiatives or projects  aligned with the company’s vision for the future.
