    Senior Technologist - Stormwater

    Job Description

    As a Stormwater Engineer Technologist in our Water Resources team, you will provide technical and specialist analysis and design support in the area of stormwater drainage, hydrology and flood management for a wide range of infrastructure projects including road, rail and urban development in Africa and around the world.

    The successful applicant will be required to:

    • Performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
    • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
    • Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.
    • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered.
    • Identifies discrepancies in results.
    • Provides guidance to entry level engineers.
    • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with moderate supervision.

    Qualifications

    • BTech in civil engineering, or equivalent
    • Five years experience in a similar role - essential
    • Experience in hydrological studies, hydraulic analysis and design of stormwater drainage infrastructure such as culverts and bridges - advantageous
    • Experience in the design of stormwater reticulation systems, culverts, erosion protection, flood control structures and runoff treatment and management devices – advantageous
    • Knowledge of detailed road drainage design and multi-disciplinary interfaces - advantageous;
    • Experience in the use of drainage analysis and associated design software technology applications (e.g. HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, TUFLOW, PCSWMM, Autocad, Civil 3D, GIS etc.) - highly advantageous
    • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

    Associate Engineer - Water

    Job Description

    The candidate will be required to fulfil technical, managerial and business development functions within the Africa Water Systems team. The candidate’s role will be national to support the greater team but with a strong local focus area in in the Western Cape are

    Line Management:

    • The Candidate will act as a line manager and should be able to mentor, monitor timekeeping and carry out performance reviews, providing feedback on allocated technical staff. The candidate will play an active role in the technical development of the allocated team. He/she will act in a supporting role to the Associate Director of Water Systems Africa by delegating work and directing less experienced staff to complete assigned projects' technical tasks.

    Project Leadership:

    • The Candidate will be required to act as a Project Manager on medium to large sized multi-disciplinary water projects. He/she must have an excellent understanding of project delivery requirements and best practise procedures. Must be well versed in project requirements such as H&S, Environmental, Quality Management and Budget Management. Will also be required to act as a Project Director on smaller to medium sized projects.

    Technical Leadership:

    • The Candidate must be able to prepares technical designs and specifications related to the water systems field. A general knowledge of all sectors would be preferred e.g. water and wastewater treatment, bulk water and sanitation pipeline conveyance (pumpstations and pipelines), water and sanitation network design and other associated works. The projects generally range throughout the various project stages i.e. planning / feasibility up to construction and close out.

    Other competencies:

    • Must provide specialised input to studies and design within their specific area of expertise.
    • Contributes as an in-house expert on specific technologies or processes.
    • Identifies and develops new processes that lead to improved efficiency or work quality.
    • Engages with project technical teams within a field of expertise
    • Resolves technical issues for complex problems.
    • Develops construction cost estimates and estimates of technical effort/man-hours for projects.
    • Supports the design team on technically complex projects and brings innovative design.
    • Responsible to coordinate with the other disciplines. This includes the support of the construction supervision teams.

    Business Development and Client Relationship Management:

    The candidate must support the business development and selling initiatives to expand work assignments, including managing client relationships and expectations. Assists with proposals and participates in the development of bids and technical write-up for proposals. Leads communication with clients to discuss work scope, requests information to support project execution and receives client comments on draft work products.

    Senior Environmental Scientist

    Job Description

    The Senior Environmental Scientist delivers discipline involvement in projects and ensures effective delivery input of others. Works on detailed or routine environmental assignments involving studies, assessments, drawings and reports etc. The role includes EIA/ESIA development, data review, supervision, coordination and acquiring baseline documentation. Guides junior Engineer/Environmental Scientist and independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete environmental works/ studies. Signs reports, documents and forms as registered Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP). Leads Public Participation/Stakeholder Engagement. Main interface with Clients and Competent Authorities.

    Technical Excellence:

    • May be required to coordinate small - mid-size project teams of discipline-led Engineer/Environmental Scientist/ Environmental Managers.
    • Prepares project deliverables that are reviewed by senior team members.
    • Performs specific and large portions of a broader assignment as an experienced Engineer/Environmental Scientist/ Environmental Manager.
    • Provides specialised technical input into studies and assessments for the particular area of expertise and identifies discrepancies in results.
    • Follows existing or develops environmental assessment procedures to facilitate high-quality, cost-effective work by self and others.
    • Participates in and creates an interdisciplinary review of project deliverables, including modelling reviews and laboratory analysis—knowledge of construction environmental management procedures relating to their specific areas of study and impact assessments, as well as inputs from external specialist and specialist studies.
    • Gathers and correlates environmental information and data using well-defined methods. Prepares technical specifications and performs work under the agreed-upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
    • Applies legislative knowledge to project triggers and manage environmental risk. Technically coordinates with Authorities for approvals. Solves problems encountered using knowledge, innovation and modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous works.
    • Contributes to the area of expertise, providing proposed improvements to existing processes and delivers solutions where precedent may not exist.
    • Performs technical quality reviews of environmental assessments, models and survey analysis, including documentation in project records by adhering to quality, occupational health and safety and corporate standards.
    • Maintains and develops the highest level of technical skills and abilities. Uses pricing and manages budget/schedule for innovative environmental enhancements.

    Client Relationship Management:

    Begins to build and maintain client relationships. Attends client meetings as technical support to gather information and discuss project requirements, explain/ defend work, etc. Participates in the development and preparation of bids and proposals. Able to present solutions to clients in a professional and technically competent manner.

    Qualifications

    • 8+ Years of relevant experience.
    • Bachelor of Science, Arts or Engineering from an accredited University
    • Master of Science/Arts or Engineering preferred but not a prerequisite. Years of experience takes precedence.
    • In South Africa professionally registered as Scientist with SACNASP and EAP with EAPASA.

    Job Description

    • An experienced user in Autodesk Revit Software (Buildings) or Bentley OpenBuildings who can model and produce drawings with limited supervision
    • Checks and coordinates project BIM models and deliverables to ensure they meet Client requirements and Industry Standards and project BIM Execution Plan
    • Checks the completeness & accuracy of your work before review by the Senior Engineer or designated senior team member.

    Associate Environmental Scientist

    Job Description

    The Associate Environmental Scientist will assist and provide support to Environmental & Social Studies for various AECOM projects across the AECOM global team, as well as supporting the African engineering teams. In addition, you will function as liaison and advisor on environmental, social, and related issues for projects in the following sectors:

    • Proven experience in Stakeholder Engagement and managing Public Participation processes.

    • Proven experience in providing environmental advisory services will be an advantage.

    Qualifications
