BTT is currently recruiting for four (4) Fire and Emergency Officers to join the Richards Bay SHEP Department.
The main purpose of the job is to ensure personnel safety by overseeing and coordinating emergency response activities, including fire and emergency operations. Provide guidance, technical assistance, and emergency communication with external stakeholders. Lead a group in managing fire and emergency-related operations in an efficient and effective manner to protect people, property, and the environment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Ability to plan, organise, prioritise and multi-task
Excellent problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
Must be able to work under pressure
Proficient on MS Office – Word, Excel, Power Point
Knowledge of SHE and fire systems.
Knowledge of SHEQ systems (ISO45001, ISO14001 & ISO9001)
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12
Higher Certificate in Fire Technology (NQF 5) is essential.
Be in possession of a valid driver licence minimum C1 with a valid PrDP and in a position to drive such a vehicle.
Minimum 4 years’ experience in the Fire Services as a fire fighter recognised in Fire Services.
Duties and Responsibilities
Lead and co-ordinate all emergency incidents as per the BTT emergency response plan.
Provide a detailed hand over to external emergency services during an emergency.
Maintain operational readiness to respond to incidents.
Proactively and reactively attend to fire and hazmat emergencies with a view to save life, assets, and environment.
Conduct weekly/monthly inspections of all emergency equipment ensuring compliance to legislation.
Perform daily fire patrols.
Participate in fire related incident investigations to determine the probable cause of the incident.
Perform daily inspections on all hot work, confined space and working at height permits, ensuring all preventative and mitigative measures are complied with.
Understand and maintain the contents of the On-Site Emergency Response Plan as well as the Major Hazardous Installation requirements.
Direct and participate in MHI and internal drills activities.
Develop and present programs on fire safety and prevention topics.
Assist in developing strategies to mitigate fire risks.
Prepare and maintain clear and concise fire reporting records.
Monitor operational activities to ensure Major Hazard Risks are identified, prioritised and managed appropriately.
Ensure the Fire Permit and all related permits to emergency equipment is up to date.
Monitor and ensure compliance to all license, permit and authorization conditions and report all concerns/non-compliances to the RBI SHEP Manager.
