    Head of Department HSE Infrastructure Development Projects (Gauteng)

    Description
    Purpose of the Role

    • To successfully design, deliver and maintain a health and safety change programme to embed and drive a positive safety culture across projects as well as ensuring the timely delivery of associated underpinning health and safety management action plans and operational programmes.

    Objectives

    Main function of the Job

    • Development & Implementation of a Safety Management System for Construction and Fit-Out
    • Creation of world class Safety Management System specifically for Construction and Fit-Out.  The H&S Management System must include Contractor H&S Evaluation Metrics, H&S Contract requirements, and performance metrics and all other components as per international safety management system standards.
    • Implementation of a H&S Management system and driving positive HSE change within General contractors and selected sub-contractors.
    • Coordination of HSE across multi-disciplinary teams in Construction and Fit-Out projects
    • Ensuring high HSE standards are maintained across Construction and Fit-Out projects
    • Developing HSE KPI’s, agreement on base line safety indicators and monitoring these across Construction and Fit-Out projects
    • Set direction for effective health and safety management and appropriate workplace wellbeing.
    • Establish training process including toolbox talks and cross project learnings across subcontractors.
    • HSE criteria for contractor selection and pre-adjudication processes

    H&S Management Responsibilities

    • Management of the 3rd Party HSE Contractors appointed for Teraco Projects and HSE functions within. 
    • Management of Teraco HSE Officers appointed specifically for Teraco M&E fitout sites.
    • Budget control of HSE function on projects

    Teraco Project H&S Champion

    • In consultation with the Project Managers define, publish and maintain a Teraco HSE fitout specification for new sites/ new DC fitouts.
    • Overall responsibility for HSE on all projects prior to handover of projects to operations.
    • Champion implementation of collaborative planning on all project sites

    SHERQ Management & Compliance in collaboration with Head of H&S Operations

    • Ensure company-wide adherence and compliance with regard to OHS Act and relevant regulations.
    • Review and develop all aspects of IOSH's health, safety and wellbeing policies and activity, and ensure that it is implemented consistently across the organisation.
    • Monitor, evaluate and review existing, new and upcoming health and safety legislation and ensure that the Teraco has systems and procedures in place to meet legal compliance and other requirements. Compile and/or review H&S policies, procedures, work instructions and processes for publishing and implementation.
    • Work proactively with project managers, principle agent and other key staff/contractors to establish and maintain a programme of continuous improvement in the management of health, safety and wellbeing within their areas of responsibility.
    • Establish/review and enhance audit process for HSE on project sites.
    • Ensure that rigorous H&S risk assessment and H&S incident management systems are in place and followed across the projects. Drive mitigation actions identified to mitigate any HSE risks with high rating.  Liaise with Contractor HSE Officers/CEOs, Teraco Head of Infrastructure Development Manager on health and wellbeing issues particularly where a risk assessment has identified a need, including supporting HR and line managers in carrying out individual risk assessments, when required.
    • Work closely with Safety Officers, Project Managers, Contractors Representatives and Principle Agent to ensure compliance requirements are being controlled, documented and maintained in accordance with regulations and guidelines.
    • Manage and Coach and enable the Health and Safety Officers to support the delivery of the change programme including equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to manage using best practices.
    • Ensure effective implementation of current health and safety policies & procedures during the implementation of new site.
    • Responsible for raising the professional HSE competency of all Teraco’s teams, including project and Teraco subcontractor teams.

    Reporting and Report Approval

    • Develop comprehensive HSE KPI’s for projects and reporting and monitoring system of these KPI’s
    • Review and approval of all HSE site related incidents.
    • Compile monthly HSE reports for Operational Risk Meeting and Board.
    • Review all client specific HSE reports and approve prior to release.
    • Prepare responses to client specific audit/RFP requirements related to HSE, from time to time.
    • Develop metrics for contractor HSE performance and provide to General Contractor as management tools.
    • Develop and track metrics for meeting company HSE objectives related to project.
    • Liaise with Teraco project client’s executives in respect of all HSE engagements

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Experience in implementing a construction management system (ISO 45 001 or equivalent).
    • Experience in training, coaching and mentoring to develop health and safety knowledge and expertise.

    • Experience of successfully managing projects. 
    • Line Management experience including providing positive support, advice and encouragement in colleague’s development.
    • A Safety Related Degree, B-Tech Degree in Safety Management or Equivalent. 
    • Minimum of 10 years working experience within the petrol chemical, mining or construction environment is essential.
    • If construction experience, experience in world class construction environments (Dubai, UAE, UK etc)
    • Extensive knowledge of the electricity and utilities environment and the respective technologies
    • Understanding of South African Legislation relating to HSE e.g., Occupational Health and Safety Act etc

    Senior Core Engineer (Gauteng)

    PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

    • The role will focus on designing, installing, and maintaining key network assets to ensure maximum uptime and meeting the strategic needs of the business. The Senior Core Engineer will actively be involved in troubleshooting issues, optimizing performance, ensuring network security and stability.  Alongside the existing Engineering team the Senior Core Engineer will be involved in establishing and maintaining internet peering relationships with other networks connected to both NAPAfrica IXP and Africa Cloud Exchange.  

    OBJECTIVES

    MAIN FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

    • Configure and maintain the switching, IP, fibre and WAN platforms including all supporting environments, which is not a static configuration due to continuous growth.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

    • 10+ years in a similar role
    • Bachelor’s degree (BA) in Information Technology or related fields

    • Experience with management of MPLS/VPLS, Ethernet, and IP networks, and understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects, as well as protocols that are required to build and maintain these networks
    • Experience with configuring BGP and a good understanding of routing protocols

    Data Centre Technician — Mechanical and Refrigeration (HVAC) (Gauteng)

    Description
    Purpose of the role

    • The Data Centre technician (HVAC) provides a range of services which revolves around day-to-day operations & maintenance of the Data Centre facility, including, but not limited to, equipment and processes, ensuring effective and efficient operation of the Data Centre but with a more specified view on HVAC systems.
    • You will be the subject matter expert for all things HVAC related ensuring the stable operation of all systems supporting client environments.  

    OBJECTIVES

    Main function of the Job 

    • Monitoring, repair and maintenance of all critical HVAC infrastructure including but not limited to (Chillers, Dry Air Coolers, AHU, CRAH, CRAC, Fresh Air Packaged Units & Comfort Cooling).
    • HVAC subject matter expert, supporting a larger team of technicians with varying skill and qualification levels.
    • Performing and managing planned and preventative maintenance of HVAC infrastructure either self or by OEM contractor.
    • Fault finding and identification on critical infrastructure, implementing repairs or management of OEM contractors to ensure minimal impact on the supported environments with an aim to reduce overall return to service time.
    • Continuous optimisation of all HAVC equipment to ensure maximum efficiency gains with a keen eye for continuous improvement.
    • Proactive working methods to ensure that all SLA parameters are maintained.
    • Monitor critical environments to ensure maximum uptime measured against 99.999% uptime principals with swift and efficient resolution of any identified issues.
    • Switching and isolation of HVAC equipment prior to maintenance or repairs.
    • Assist project and consultant teams with installation, commissioning and accepting for service of new HVAC plant and associated equipment.
    • Daily walk arounds and inspections of HVAC and supporting infrastructure to minimise the risk of unplanned outages and ensuring plant under your control remains at industry leading standard.   
    • Wiring and regular inspection of control systems and panels to ensure the environment remains in day 1 condition.
    • Offering technical support at our facilities by performing a supporting role with control system/network installation, configuration, and troubleshooting in order to ensure optimum performance of the cooling plant.
    • Continuous monitoring of the HVAC and supporting systems within data halls and processes to ensure smooth and uninterrupted operation.

    Compliance

    • Maintain compliance in accordance with all Company policies, procedures and legislative requirements and codes.
    • Active participation with various teams to ensure ISO certifications are maintained.
    • Working methods to ensure that all client SLA’s and MSA’s are met and maintained.
    • Meet agreed inter-departmental OLA’s (Operational Level Agreement’s)
    • Proactive Health & Safety monitoring and corrective action to meet statutory compliance and company’s objective of zero tolerance towards unsafe work practices.

    • Electrical trade certificate or National Diploma in electrical engineering would be advantageous. 
    • Knowledge of control systems i.e. Siemens, Schneider, Carel etc would be advantageous.
    • Minimum of 2 years post qualification work experience in a commercial or industrial environment.
    • Previous data centre experience would be advantageous. 
    • Knowledge of Data Centre environments and critical supporting infrastructure would be advantageous.
