    Foam Upper (Foaming up)

    Purpose of the Role

    • The Foam Upper is responsible for applying foam, padding, and related materials to furniture frames to achieve the required shape, comfort, and quality standards before upholstery covering.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Apply foam, batting, and padding to furniture frames according to specifications and drawings
    • Cut and shape foam accurately to fit different furniture components
    • Use adhesives and tools correctly to secure foam in place
    • Ensure proper build-up to achieve the correct comfort, shape, and finish
    • Inspect frames before foaming to ensure they are suitable for the next process
    • Work closely with upholsterers to ensure smooth workflow and product quality
    • Maintain consistency in product standards across all units
    • Minimise material waste and report any discrepancies
    • Keep the work area clean, safe, and organised

    Skills & Competencies

    • Good understanding of upholstery processes and materials
    • Ability to read and interpret basic drawings or specifications
    • Attention to detail and quality standards
    • Manual dexterity and accuracy in cutting and shaping foam
    • Ability to work efficiently under production targets
    • Team collaboration and communication skills

    Experience & Requirements

    • Experience in upholstery or foam-up operations preferred
    • Basic knowledge of tools, adhesives, and materials used in foaming
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment

    Seamstress (Fixed-term Position)

    Job Purpose:

    • We are seeking a skilled Seamstress to join our team on a 4-month fixed-term contract. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sewing techniques, with particular expertise in creating high-quality inners and underlocking that ensure durability, comfort, and aesthetic appeal.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Deliver high-quality stitch work that meets expectations
    • Select appropriate threads, needles, and embellishments for each project
    • Operate sewing machines, sergers, and other equipment to execute stitch work
    • Ensure all finished products meet quality standards and are free of defects
    • Precision sewing of inners to ensure proper fit and comfort
    • Ensure underlocking stitches are uniform and consistent throughout the product
    • Keep work area clean and organized
    • Maintain a safe and efficient work environment

    Technical Requirements:

    • Proven experience as a seamstress or tailor
    • Proficiency in sewing techniques
    • Strong attention to detail and precision
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Excellent time management
    • Good communication skills

    Education and Experience:

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Certification or training in sewing, garment construction, or a related field

    Machine Operator

    Job Purpose:

    • Weylandts Furniture Creations is looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Machine Operator to join our Machine Shop team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining woodworking machinery to ensure components are produced according to specification, quality, and safety standards.

     Key Responsibilities:

    • Operate woodworking machinery such as CNC routers, panel saws, edge banders, and spindle moulders.
    • Read and interpret technical drawings to ensure accurate component production.
    • Conduct pre-start checks, routine maintenance, and cleaning of machines.
    • Monitor production output to ensure quality and consistency.
    • Identify and report faults, irregularities, or safety risks immediately.
    • Collaborate closely with the Draughtsman and Production teams to meet production targets and timelines.
    • Uphold housekeeping and safety standards within the machine shop at all times.

     Skills Required:

    • Grade 12 or equivalent.
    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Machine Operator in a furniture or woodworking environment.
    • Sound understanding of timber materials, furniture components, and machining processes.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
    • Safety-conscious and able to work in a fast-paced production environment.

    General Worker

    Purpose of the Job 

    • To assist in the manufacturing, assembly, finishing, packing, and movement of furniture products while maintaining quality, productivity, and workplace safety standards. 

    Key Responsibilities 

    Production Support 

    • Assist with the manufacturing of furniture products according to work instructions. 
    • Load, unload, and transport materials, components, and finished goods within the factory. 
    • Support upholsterers, machinists, carpenters, assemblers, sanders, and packers as required. 
    • Prepare materials, tools, and workstations before production begins. 
    • Perform basic assembly and fitting of furniture components. 

    Housekeeping 

    • Keep work areas clean, organized, and free from hazards. 
    • Remove waste materials and dispose of them according to company procedures. 
    • Maintain factory cleanliness and assist with general housekeeping duties. 

    Quality 

    • Follow quality standards and report defects to supervisors. 
    • Handle materials and products carefully to prevent damage. 
    • Ensure completed work meets company specifications. 

    Safety 

    • Follow all health and safety procedures. 
    • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE). 
    • Report unsafe conditions, incidents, and accidents immediately. 
    • Use equipment and tools safely and responsibly. 

    Packing and Dispatch 

    • Assist with wrapping, packing, and labeling finished products. 
    • Load products for delivery when required. 
    • Verify quantities and product codes before dispatch. 

    Minimum Requirements 

    • Grade 10 or Matric preferred. 
    • Previous manufacturing or factory experience advantageous. 
    • Able to perform physical work and lift materials safely. 
    • Good communication skills. 
    • Ability to work in a team environment.
