    Geometric Design Specialist

    As the successful candidate, you will:

    • Undertake and review geometric design work of National, Provincial and Municipal Roads.
    • Coordinate investigational studies e.g., Topographical Surveys, Traffic Studies, Materials Investigation, Geotechnical studies, Environmental Impact Assessments, etc.
    • Preparation and review of CAD drawings e.g., Layout Plans, Long Sections, Cross-sections, etc.
    • Undertake and review stormwater drainage design.
    • Prepare and review technical design reports.
    • Prepare and review schedule of quantities using COLTO, SANS 1200 and etc;
    • Assist in developing project specifications and cost estimates in line with CIDB;
    • Assist with tender documentation and procurement.
    • Support during construction supervision and contract administration stages.
    • Actively contribute to mentoring and upskilling of junior staff.
    • Preparation of bid proposals for new work opportunities.
    • Act as a Project Leader or Project Manager for Roads and Highways projects.
    • Assist with any other business development initiatives within the Highways &Bridges Business Unit.
    • Network and nurture long-term relationship with team members and clients e.g., Western Cape Department of Infrastructure, SANRAL, City of Cape Town and others.

    You bring to the role:

    • BSc or BEng in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 10 - 15 years’ experience in the planning and design of Roads and Highways and must be registered with ECSA as a PrEng.
    • Highly competent in road conceptual planning and geometric design and drawing production standards for national, provincial, and municipal road projects.
    • Demonstrate experience in the design of freeway interchanges, major provincial roads, urban arterial roads, dual carriageways, major intersections, roundabouts, traffic engineering, and drainage.
    • Good understanding of relevant design methods and guidelines for Roads & Highways projects at National, Provincial and Municipal level is essential.
    • Must have been involved on all stages of a road project i.e., Basic Planning Studies & Reporting, Conceptual, Preliminary, Detailed Design, Preparation of Design Reports, Tender Documentation and Construction Monitoring.
    • Experience must include involvement in greenfield, improvement, upgrading, and maintenance road projects.
    • Good technical report writing skills are essential including ability to effectively communicate and liaise with clients and lead design teams.
    • Good interpersonal and professional communication skills with high levels of confidence, patience, and commitment.
    • Proficient in Civil 3D and AutoCAD software.

    Pavement Design Specialist

    As the successful candidate, you will:

    • Interpretation of Pavement Management System (PMS) data.
    • Carry out pavement visual assessment surveys and data collection.
    • Setup and run Rubicon models for pavement data analysis and design.
    • Coordinate field investigation studies by intrusive methods - centreline materials investigations, borrow pit investigations, analysis of laboratory test results, etc.
    • Evaluation of non-intrusive data including FWD analysis, rut measurements and roughness and texture measurements.
    • Undertake pavement design and analysis work for National, Provincial and Municipal Roads.
    • Provide input for preparation of pavement design CAD drawings & construction details.
    • Prepare cost estimates for different pavement design options.
    • Setup and run HDM-4 models for economic evaluation of design options.
    • Prepare and review pavement design reports in collaboration with other disciplines.
    • Prepare and review schedule of quantities using COTO, COLTO, SANS 1200 etc.
    • Assist in developing cost estimates and project specifications in line with CIDB.
    • Assist with tender documentation, procurement, and adjudication reports.
    • Provide technical support during construction supervision and contract administration stages.
    • Actively contribute to mentoring and upskilling of junior staff.
    • Preparation of bid proposals for new work opportunities.
    • Act as a Project Leader or Project Manager for some of the Roads and Highways projects.
    • Assist with business development initiatives for the Highways &Bridges Business Unit.
    • Network and nurture long-term relationship with team members and clients e.g., Western Cape Department of Infrastructure, SANRAL, City of Cape Town and other client bodies.

    You bring to the role:

    • BSc or BEng in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 10 - 15 years’ experience in pavement design for Roads and Highways projects
    • Candidate must be registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng).
    • Masters degree in Pavement Engineering and active participation in relevant industry committees e.g. SAT, SAICE and participation at conferences will be advantageous.
    • Highly competent in road pavement analysis and rehabilitation design for National, Provincial, and Municipal Road projects.
    • Demonstrate experience in the design of flexible and rigid pavements, unsealed roads, mining heavy haul roads, review and approval of asphalt mix and seal designs including an understanding of road construction materials.
    • Good understanding of relevant pavement design methods and applicable industry guidelines is essential (i.e., AASHTO, Pavement Number, Mechanistic Design, COTO, COLTO, SAPEM, TRH, TMH and TG series).
    • Experience must include involvement in the design of new pavements, pavement rehabilitation, upgrading and maintenance of road pavement projects including site experience where applicable.
    • Must have been involved in all stages of a road project i.e., Basic Planning Studies & Reporting, Conceptual, Preliminary, Detailed Design, Preparation of Design Reports, Tender Documentation and Construction Monitoring.
    • Good technical report writing skills are essential including the ability to effectively communicate and liaise with clients and lead design teams.
    • Proficiency in Rubicon, cncPave and other pavement design software is essential.

    • Lead problem solving process and analytical process for complex workstreams, generating effective hypotheses and finding solutions to barriers using high quality deliverables. 
    • Effectively lead & coach junior analysts through the analytical process and model design/construction, including excel models and other outputs.  
    • Lead multiple analysts to produce deliverables & presentations, ensuring an effective production process and quality control when delegating work. 
    • Build good rapport with clients, communicating effectively and understanding client needs 
    • Support maintaining existing client network effectively  
    • Be able to anticipate roadblocks to problem solving and proposing solutions. 
    • Develop proposal for full engagement 
    • Handle formal communication at all levels internally. 
    • Create and design visual communication and storylines for several workstreams, using slides/storyline to effectively support clients’ decision-making process.  
    • Be a champion of inclusion and diversity 

    What You Bring to The Role 

    • 3+ years of experience relevant to the role  
    • An undergraduate degree in Engineering, Business, Finance or equivalent 
    • Experience working with projects in mining & metals, energy, or infrastructure is preferred. 
    • Proven experience in using research and analysis tools 
    • Collaborate and actively contribute as an effective member of a team 
    • Strong data analytics skills, including experience with business requirements gathering, analysis and ability to translate business requirements into technical process solutions 
    • Ability to learn new skills quickly and adapt to a broad range of project types and responsibilities 
    • Financial modeling experience is considered a strong asset
