    Unit Manager (ICU Re-advertised) – Medicare Private Hospital

    Description

    • An opportunity exists for a Unit Manager (ICU) to report to the Nursing Services Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring and monitoring the quality nursing care coordinating the multidisciplinary team in the unit.

    Critical Outputs

    • Evaluate and monitor nursing quality indicators and clinical outcomes.
    • Provide cost effective quality patient care in line with clinical governance.
    • Ensure the principles of infection prevention and all international standards precautions are adhered to.
    • Implement quality initiatives.
    • Communicate effectively with patients regarding their care.
    • Function as clinical expert in achieving patient outcomes.
    • Ensure competence of staff and students, determine and drive criteria for effective professional socialization, create an environment conducive to learning and provide feedback to relevant stakeholders.
    • Promote customer satisfaction within unit, address customer complaints, conduct quality care rounds and clinical practice audits to monitor care levels and report accordingly.
    • Identify clinical and safety risks and trends in all of the above, implement corrective action where necessary and monitor on an ongoing basis.
    • Initiate and drive unit specific best operating practice, communicate these for wider implementation and participate in hospital specific marketing initiatives.
    • Ensure staff are trained on the operation of equipment within unit and together with relevant stakeholders ensure equipment is in working order to provide a safe patient environment.

    Requirements

    • Degree or Diploma in nursing with at least 5 years’ experience in ICU.
    • Qualification in Critical Care Nursing.
    • Current registration with SANC.
    • Previous Unit Management experience.
    • Proven leadership and people management skills would be an advantage.
    • Basic understanding of labour legislation, financial and supply chain management principles.
    • Computer proficiency.

    Infection Prevention and Control Specialist (Re-advertised) – Medicare Private Hospital

    Description

    • An opportunity exists for an Infection Prevention and Control Specialist, reporting to the Nursing Services Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, managing, mitigating and evaluating infection prevention risks to patients, employees, and the community and business stakeholders

    Critical Outputs

    • Execute the hospital infection prevention strategy.
    • Implement an infection prevention plan aligned to the business objectives of the business unit.
    • Lead the Infection Prevention Committee and direct reporting, investigation, root cause analysis, trending and actions of all infection related incidents or risks.
    • Comply with legal and company requirements through internal audits (laundry, sterilization and storage department, catering, healthcare risk waste, internal infection and prevention control audit), and the hazardous biological agent risk assessment.
    • Participate in and manage the close out of findings of the Department of Health inspection.
    • Participate in and manage the close out of findings of the external and internal quality reviews.
    • Patient and environmental risks identified and mitigated.
    • Communicate infection risks, trends and actions to the Management Committee, Unit Managers, Medical Advisory Committee, and Quality Review Committee.
    • Identify, minimize and manage occupation exposure to hazardous biological agents.
    • Ensure that the Hep B programme is offered to all healthcare workers.
    • Monitor and evaluate the placement of high-risk employees to minimize occupational health risks.
    • Technical and professional competence in infection prevention at business unit level.
    • Provide subject matter knowledge and advice to the business unit.
    • Facilitate standard and ad hoc training as required to align business unit to organizational training strategy.
    • Manage internal and external outbreaks to minimize risk

    Requirements

    • Relevant Degree or Diploma in Nursing with registration with the SANC
