    Unit Manager -Medical Ward

    Summary

    • The Unit Manager will be responsible for coordinating Improved Quality Nursing Care by ensuring compliance with professional and ethical practice. The incumbent will be accountable for coordinating the Training, Development and Mentoring of staff in the Unit. The incumbent will also be expected to apply and manage the best and most effective operational practice by focusing on the integration of people, technology and finance drivers in ensuring that Unit costs are maintained within budget.
    • Administer and supervise, thus ensuring standards for quality nursing care are met in the unit, evaluate on an ongoing basis and take appropriate action
    • Monitor and enforce standards, procedures and staff performance. Manage unit activities, including irregularities and policy violations and take corrective and follow-up action. Perform clinical instruction as necessary
    • Control drugs as per regulations of the Pharmacy Act (Act 53 of 1974), perform checks on drug totals and drug registers and ensure that procedures and recording are adhered to. Rationalise and control emergency stock
    • Stock control
    • Monitor and manage staff attendance and ensure coverage of the unit at all times. Allocate staff based on workload and level of competence, ensuring optimal staff usage and maintaining the stability of nurse/patient ratio
    • Promote and maintain good working and interpersonal relationships with management, patients, staff, doctors and colleagues. Coordinate the activities of all hospital departments to provide uniformity of direction
    • Demonstrate professional ethics and leadership qualities. Maintain standards and conduct to the South African Nursing Act and SANC Regulations
    • Conduct frequent ward rounds and provide top-quality, customer-centric service
    • Ensure processes are in line with the working procedures and policies of Busamed Paardevlei Private Hospital

    Requirements

    • Grade 12 or equivalent NQF level 4 qualification
    • A relevant nursing qualification (Diploma in General Nursing/ B Cur Degree) or equivalent NQF 7 qualifications
    • Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse
    • Post-basic qualification in Management will be advantageous

    Work Experience

    • At least five (5) years of relevant experience in a Private Hospital Environment
    • Experience in clinical leadership

    Knowledge

    • Computer Literacy essential
    • Sound financial knowledge and the ability to interpret financial data
    • Excellent organisational skills
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Report writing skills
    • Analytical thinking
    • Must be able to function effectively independently

    Enrolled Nurse

    Summary

    • The Enrolled Nurse is responsible for the direct and indirect nursing care of a patient or group of patients and functions under the direct and indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse in accordance with hospital standards and policies. As a Professional Practitioner, the incumbent also is responsible for and is held accountable for his/her acts and omissions.
    • Nursing activities form part of a nursing regime that is planned and initiated by the Registered Nurse. The Enrolled Nurse will be responsible for the assessment and care of the needs of patients and will be responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of appropriate programmes of care, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to patients/reporting potential/ actual risks identified, ensure all stock is well controlled and managed.

    Requirements

    • Registered with the South African Nursing Council as an Enrolled Nurse
    • Comply with the SANC code for an Enrolled Nurse and all applicable healthcare legislation

    Work Experience

    • Working experience in private healthcare or the healthcare funding industry will be advantageous
    • Mental Health experience is essential
    • + 1 - 5 Years working experience in the same position

    Knowledge

    • Computer Literacy is essential
    • Fluent communication in English is essential
    • Nursing standards
    • Full understanding of the Mental Health Care Act, No. 17 of 2002 and the Regulations
    • Capacity to implement and maintain health practice standards required by all accredited bodies and appropriate health legislation

    Senior Pharmacist

    Summary

    • The incumbent responsibilities will include but not limited to adhering to patients needs in an effective, satisfactory and responsible manner. The applicant will also be ultimately responsible for the provision of medication and supplementary services to patients and other stakeholders.

    Requirements

    • A relevant Pharmaceutical qualification (B.Pharm.Degree)

    Registered Nurse - Scrub Sister

    Summary

    • The Registered Nurse will render and promote cost effective, safe quality patient care in accordance to hospital standards and policies. As a Professional Practitioner, the incumbent also is responsible for and is held accountable for his/her own acts and omissions. The incumbent will further be responsible for direct and/or indirect nursing care of a patient or a group of patients, for assessing, planning, executing and supervising the implementation of care to meet patient needs.     • Compliance with the SANC code for a Registered Nurse and all applicable health care legislation

    Knowledge

    • Practice patient care according to the Scope of Practice and assume total responsibility for these activities
