The person in this position will report to the Audit Partners and Head of Audit and will oversee and ensure that the audit runs efficiently and profitably from inception to sign-off by managing all the relevant stakeholders in accordance with the Firm's policies and procedures. This person further supports the Engagement Partner with the clients' commercial management and business development initiatives.

Clients (70%)
- Being involved in proposals
- Assist with new client research, presentation and pitch preparation

Finance
Budget (20%)
- Managing budget to actual
- Assisting the Partner with negotiating budgets/fees and overruns for clients once fee base has been agreed
Billing (30%)
- Timeous and accurate billing of clients, using fee arrangement letters in liaison with the partner

- Timeous follow up on fee queries
- Achieve chargeable hours as agreed upon

Administration (10%)
- Approval of timesheets, leave & expense claims
Quality and Process
Planning (40%)
- Ensure that the audit planning is signed off before commencement of execution of the audit
- Manage preparation of detailed budgets & staff allocation
- Submission of task code request & approval of overruns
- Communication of deadlines and budget to staff
- Liaison with client and preparation of the schedule of audit requirements
- Perform function of principal client contact and take full responsibility for the client relationship management and ensure that all queries are solved timeously
Execution (30%)
- Oversee and ensure that all the project activities comply with the firm's policies and procedures
- Perform a review on all sections in the file
- Manage the project timelines and ensure that allocated resources are efficiently used
- Manage the client and ensure that the project is delivered within the scope agreed on
Finalisation (30%)
- Review the draft financial statements and audit opinion
- Attend and present at audit committee meetings
- Attend and facilitate wrap-up meetings
- Ensure that the files for archiving are done
- Ensure timeous archiving of files
People Development, Learning and Growth
Training (10%)
- Review the work of colleagues when necessary to identify compliance issues and provide advice or training
Staff Development (60%)
- Mentorship and feedback to team members
- Mentoring of trainees and seniors when required
- Provide adequate on the job training, counselling & evaluation
- Assist with recruitment and selection e.g. interviews, VAC work
- Timeous completion of ANAs once completed by the trainee
- Regular feedback on trainee performance to the trainee and mentor
- Timeous completion of PTS and LTS and ANAs

Own Development (30%)

Job specifications:
- Responsibility for portfolio of clients (Individuals, Trust, Companies and Close Corporations)
- Perform the following engagements
- Compilation Engagements in terms of ISRS 4410
- Independent Review Engagements in terms of ISRE 2400
- Accounting Officer Engagements in terms of Close Corporations Act
- Ensuring that proper planning is performed before execution
- Ensuring BDO SOP's are followed at all times
- Reviewing junior staff working papers for sections allocated to them
- Reviewing working paper files performed by junior staff
- Proposing journals to client
- Communicating with clients and making engagement arrangements, discuss engagement results
Accounting duties
- Preparation, processing and maintenance of accounting records for numerous Individuals, Trust, Companies and Close Corporations from source documents
- Balance sheet reconciliations
- Preparation of audit files and finalization of accounts
- Preparation of monthly management accounts
- Reconciliation of intercompany loan accounts
- Preparation of interest schedules on loan accounts
- Processing monthly general journals
- Monthly reconciliation of expenses
- Drafting AFS per IFRS and IFRS for SMEs
- Drafting financial statements in terms of relevant accounting disclosure requirements using Caseware
- Performing tax computations for companies, close corporations and trusts (including SBC's, special allowances (s12C, S12E, etc.))
- Preparation and submission of statutory returns
- Managing WIP and budgets on engagements
- Updating manager and partner on progress of engagements
- Mentoring junior staff both on the job and generally
- Ad-hoc processing on Pastel Partner, Xero or directly in Caseware
- Assist other staff members where needed
- attending to any other matters arising, such as tax queries etc.

Skills requirements:
- BCom Financial Accounting and Tax as majors (preferred Hons. BCom accounting but not a requirement)
- Competed SAIPA or SAICA articles preferred
- Working knowledge of most commonly used accounting packages (for reporting purposes and ad-hoc processing)
- Detailed knowledge of Caseware working papers
