    Reliability Engineer: FAMP & FAT RSA

    PURPOSE

    This position exists to ensure that reliability engineering services for mining maintenance, re-mining, water services and process services are optimised and delivered in a professional and effective manner whilst adhering to all safety and legislative requirements including improve the reliability and life expectancy of equipment creatively by analysing down-time and recommending innovative improvement actions.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Risk Management

    • Identify and analyse high consequent hazards on operations to provide recommendations for the best approach to enable safe production and engineering
    • Develop, implement and monitor a change management plan for the recommendations to control the high consequent hazards
    • Drive actions to encourage, implement and improve systems
    • Obtain a good understanding of the quality, design and/or modification of the specific plant, equipment or environment prior to the risk analysis
    • Ensure that risk analysis considers quality of work processes and depends on quality of engineering and production processes
    • Ensure that any risk management recommendation include record keeping practices and are kept and up to date for audit purposes
    • Develop, modify and scrutinize all work instructions related to identify risks for practicality

    Provide Specialised Advice and Support

    • Analyse equipment downtime and determine mean time before failure (MTBF) and mean time to repair (MTTR) to identify problem areas and to recommend possible solutions
    • Provide advice and solutions as required and within the timeframes and coordinate the development of standards
    • Communicate all advice and solutions to all concerned parties and ensure t awareness of the consequences to avoid possible reoccurrence of problems
    • Monitor the risk factors continuously and develop pro-active solutions and cautious to avoid any possibly problems
    • Ensure that all lessons learned are shared on a continuous basis to enhance pro-active actions
    • Implement and contribute to continuous improvement and asset optimisation initiatives and projects to ensure best practice engineering processes are in place
    • Manage contractors as part of the team to ensure zero harm to workers and minimal damage to property
    • Ensure that all contracts are in place to monitor actual contractor performance and compare to agree upon requirements
    • Drive initiatives aimed at eliminating waste, improving productivity and reducing operating costs to increase the cost-effectiveness of projects
    • Assist in implementation of an AOM plan for the Department
    • Develop maintenance related documentation and implement (standards, procedures and checklists)

    Budget and Cost Control Management

    • Contribute to the development of the Department budget
    • Manage the section's expenditure within the approved budget to ensure effective cost control and savings
    • Identify any opportunities for improved cost management and either raise or address these

    Stakeholder Relationship Management

    • Build, manage and maintain healthy diverse workable internal relations and implement remedial actions where required
    • Build, manage and maintain healthy relations to assist in achievement of organisational goals
    • Liaise with stakeholders to provide relevant and specialised support and input for operations and projects

    Safe and Healthy Work Environment

    • Demonstrate behaviour in line with health, safety and environmental standards and with Company values
    • Set the health, safety and environmental expectations and ESG compliance
    • Participate in relevant safety audits, inspections and observations, and address issues as part of demonstrating safety leadership
    • Promote good housekeeping to ensure compliance and an environment where outputs can be delivered within a controlled risk environment

    People Management

    • Allocate resources to achieve the section plan both day to day and through the year
    • Monitor the activities of the teams and appropriately intervene to address any cross-team matters

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Engineering National Degree / equivalent NQF 6 or higher

    EXPERIENCE

    • A minimum of five years in the planning or asset management environment
    • Relevant experience within the engineering maintenance environment, preferably within the mining industry
    • Competency in planning software is compulsory

    Senior Superintendent

    Description

    • Senior Superintendent role exists to execute multiple large- and small-scale projects against established project management standards which include time, cost & scope.
    • The role oversees safety, risks, technical and commercial management of projects and ensures successful and profitable execution.
    • Overall system, process, people management & development responsibility.
    • The role interacts vertically with operations teams, clients and senior operations and accounts management and horizontally with broad business operations in the division.
    • The role assists to plan for successful execution on all projects within its scope of responsibility and influence.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Business/Functional Management
    • Execute project responsibilities in line with organizational strategy, in order to achieve set goals.
    • Execute efficient production processes & ensure profitable project outcomes.
    • Lead various teams of leaders to deliver business objectives
    • Financial, Commercial & Contracts Management
    • Manage contract commercial terms including terminations, dispute resolution, force majeure, and escalations. 
    • Manage costs and production within project budget, cost and time targets, providing inputs to Cost and
    • Site Accountant on cash flow charts and systems, monitoring compliance in their area.

    Risk Management & Compliance, incl. ESG responsibility

    • Ensure the company's policy on social responsibility is adhered to.
    • Be fully aware of the content and impact of new contracts i.e. General Conditions of Contract,
    • Special Conditions, Specifications, and Drawings; be aware of relevant legislation relating to the contract
    • - as related to project operational execution and governance.

    Stakeholder Management (Internal/External)

    • Promote ongoing open communication with Client Resident Engineer, Mining Manager and other client managers
    • to foster good relations between FAT and the Client, through appropriate forums and interfaces.
    • Manage interface with other client contractors and operations on site.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • BSc Degree / B Tech / qualification (mining / metallurgy / industrial / civil or similar)
    • Project Management & a general management qualification would be advantageous.

    EXPERIENCE

    • At least five years relevant experience in respect of managing Tailings and/or Remining sites
    • Proven production management exposure as Mine Overseer / Snr Superintendent
    • General Mining Production experience would be an advantage
    • Proven practical and hands-on experience in the management of leaders, labour and plant resources.
    • Experience in planning and commissioning projects, preferably on Tailings operation or Re-mining.
    • At least 5 years’ experience in a management role, preferably in a Tailings / mining environment.

    SKILLS, QUALITIES AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

    • Solid knowledge of Mining, Production and Tailings Industries with specific emphasis on Tailings  business.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the national legislation, standards and bylaws applicable to the Tailings business.
    • Excellent knowledge and understanding of technical and operational aspects core to the tailings and mining industry.
    • Excellent Commercial astuteness.

    Operation supervisor

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Business / Functional Management

    • Execute their operational and technical duties in line with organisational directives, as provided by the Superintendent or reporting line manager.
    • Support implementation of business initiatives as directed in their area.

    Financial, Commercial & Contracts Management

    • Work with materials and equipment in a cost effective way, as per standard operating procedures and practice notes as directed by line manager.
    • Ensure full compliance to material usage requirements in executing of their duties.

    Risk Management & Compliance, incl. ESG responsibility

    • Execute all duties in strict compliance to SHEQ policies, procedures and legislation, to ensure the company's responsibility is met.
    • Comply with all reporting and information requirements, as set by the Superintendent.

    Stakeholder Management (internal / external)

    • Ensure professional interaction with stakeholders, at operator to junior management level.
    • Maintain working relationships with support functions on site and at head office, as required to deliver in their section against standards.
    • Engage with peers and seniors on the project to ensure project objectives are achieved as per instruction.

    Operations & Project Management

    • Contribute to plan / schedule generation for daily / shift work, in line with project goals.
    • Responsible for operational execution of work assigned to them, through delivery of their own tasks and duties, as well as supervision of the work for the team on shift.

    Management Operating System & Reporting

    • Ensure all paperwork and posters are displayed on the site office wall and kept up to date.
    • Ensure all reported near misses are recorded following procedure and submitted to the Superintendent each week.

    Technical Management

    • Responsible for adherence to technical standards and work methods, for their section, in accordance with organizational and client requirements, policies, procedures and legislation.                

    SHEQ Management

    • Checking the sums are right on plans drawings and quantities and that all materials and work are to the specifications. Record the condition of plant arriving on site on a form with photographs.

    Staff Management

    • Execute duties in full compliance of safety, training and health requirements. Remain up to date with personal professional development. Assist Superintendent with ensuring operational delivery in areas as assigned. 

    Culture & Climate

    • Contribute to a culture of safety and continuous improvement for the duration of the project.
    • Align with client culture requirements as directed by their line manager.

    Requirements

    Qualifications

    • National Diploma in Civil or Mining / Metallurgical / Industrial Engineering or equivalent
    • B Tech in Civil or Mining / Metallurgical Engineering or equivalent preferred.

    Experience

    • At least 1 to 2 years’ tailings deposition experience working in a mining / tailings environment.

    SKILLS, QUALITIES and ABILITIES REQUIRED

    •  Solid understanding of the Mining Industry with specific emphasis on Tailings business
    • Knowledge and understanding of the national legislation, standards and bylaws applicable to Tailings business. Excellent knowledge and understanding of technical and operational aspects core to the tailings industry. First line supervision - management theory and application
