    Research Assistant - Eastern Cape

    Requirements

    • Post-graduate tertiary qualification (at least honors with masters preferred) in Social Sciences or Public Health
    • At least 1 year experience in a similar role within a research environment
    • At least 1 year of program planning, organizing and management experience
    • At least 1 year’ experience in qualitative (interviews and focus group discussion) data collection and quality control
    • Must have experience in conducting literature reviews
    • Must have experiencing using a reference management software to manage bibliographic data and related research materials
    • Xhosa and English speaking
    • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
    • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and Men’s Health
    • Excellent communication - verbal & written skills
    • Ability to build relationships with stakeholders and use these to manage study
    • Strong administrative and logistical skills
    • Planning and organizing
    • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
    • Ability to work under pressure
    • Ability to maintain effectiveness during changing conditions
    • Detail-oriented
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

    Advantageous:

    • Certificate in Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
    • Experience in qualitative and quantitative analysis
    • Valid driver’s license with own transport
    • Publication in a peer-reviewed journal

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide research and administrative support to senior researchers
    • Conduct in-depth literature reviews as requested
    • Support study socio-behavioural scientists with study-specific tasks, including participant interviews, file management, and quality checking, and participant scheduling and follow up
    • Liaise and co-ordinate with community outreach teams regarding the follow up of study participants and scheduling of interviews/focus group discussions/surveys
    • Conduct, transcribe and analyse qualitative interviews and FGD’s
    • Assist with protocol development and revisions by providing input as needed.
    • Manage research protocol ethics submissions
    • Assist with qualitative data management and analysis as needed.
    • Assist lead socio-behavioural scientists with any presentations that need to be done on study data
    • Assist with designing, developing, and distributing materials on the study
    • Attend research meetings as required for project staff

    HCT/Research Counsellor

    Requirements

    • Grade 12 Certificate
    • HIV counselling and Testing Certificate (HCT)
    • Certificate of competence: Rapid Finger-Prick testing
    • Rapid Testing Quality Improvement Initiative Certificate
    • At least 1-year experience of working with adolescents within a research/ community health environment
    • Knowledge of Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)
    • Knowledge of Sexual Reproductive Health, HIV/AIDS, TB and STI’s, and counselling
    • Computer literacy with sound knowledge of email, Microsoft office suite etc.
    • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
    • Fluency in English and or Afrikaans and or IsiXhosa
    • Ability to work well under pressure and to maintain effectiveness during changing conditions
    • Maintain confidentiality
    • Administration skills
    • Ability to work independently as well as part of the mobile clinic team
    • Client focused and detail-orientated
    • Willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends

    Advantageous:

    • Experience in a Community Based research-Projects
    • Valid Driver’s license
    • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Certificate
    • Knowledge of HIV
    • Certificate for PrEP

    Responsibilities:

    • Providing welcoming and supportive environment to adolescent clients regardless of race, gender, or HIV status
    • Conduct Rapid HIV, pregnancy testing and follow up where required.
    • Provide basic HIV/ARV/ PrEP/PEP education to participants individually and in groups
    • Assist in tracking of participants enrolled into research projects
    • Accurate and complete questionnaire administration
    • Participate in recruitment and consenting activities
    • Follow-up telephone calls with study participants
    • Assist with recruiting patients for research studies on the Mobile Clinics
    • Assist with community surveys.
    • Assist with filing research forms and patient files.
    • Maintain strict client confidentiality
    • Capturing study data on mobile app
    • Weekly and Monthly progress reports on research participation (recruitment, enrolment and retention)
    • Assist with other project related activities as required
