    Rewinderman

    Description

    We are hiring!

    • We’re on the lockout for Rewinderman the incumbent in this position will ensure the efficient operation of the Mason Scott / No.2 Jagenberg to produce reels according to customer specifications.

    As a Rewinderman you will be responsible to:

    • Conducts inspection of section to ensure that the equipment is in a safe working condition
    • Reports all defects to immediate Supervisor.
    • Prepares the machine for start-up.
    • Reads instruction on Master Production Schedule (MPS) and orders the paper reels in advance from the Warehouse and cores from the Core Cutter.
    • Inspects reels for defects before start up, and reports defects to Supervisor for corrective action.
    • Loads reels onto the backstand/unwind stand using a hydraulic backstand.
    • Feeds paper through the machine and onto the winder shaft while the machine is on crawl speed.
    • Stops rewinder and gum tape paper onto core -winding shaft.
    • Ensures that all safety gates and equipment are in position before starting the Mason Scott/Jagenberg.
    • Operates the Mason Scott/Jagenberg to cut paper according to customer requirements.
    • Monitors the winding of paper while machine is running by checking the quality, sheet appearances, tension, trim breaks, pressures, slitting, levels and paper defects of paper being rewound and reports any abnormalities to the Finishing House Supervisor.
    • Ejects the completed set from the Mason Scott/Jagenberg and assist in removing the shaft.
    • Measures the width and diameter of all rewound reels to ensure accuracy as per MPS.
    • Troubleshoots machine problems together with the Supervisor using effective problem solving techniques.
    • Plans all tasks associated with the Mason Scott/Jagenberg to minimise downtime on the machine.

    As a Production Foreman: Paper, you will be responsible to:

    • Leads a Shift based team assigned to your plant
    • Participates in relevant forums to facilitate effective communication. MDT, SHEQ, etc.
    • Recommends maintenance/upgrade/replacement of existing equipment and other continuous improvement initiatives to optimize production efficiency
    • Plans the plant operations to ensure optimum utilization of the resources (raw materials, energy, people) against set target
    • Conduct first line troubleshooting on shift to address operational problems, and escalate to the production/engineering standby when required
    • Manages the execution of production activities (shuts, start-ups, checks, log sheets, graph, trends, resources) to sustain quality standards and plant efficiency.
    • Assess staff against Position Profile & coaches/mentors team members
    • Ensures on-the-job and off-the-job training activities
    • Monitors and adjusts employee role and responsibility
    • Evaluates and directs performance of team and team members against goals and standards of conduct to ensure maximum performance, and take disciplinary action when required
    • Understands the SHEQ requirements of the Section
    • Monitor subordinate’s performance against SHEQ requirements and corrects non-conformances
    • Investigates incidents (SHEQ) and identify root causes of Non-conformances and corrects deviations
    • Maintains a high level of good housekeeping in the workplace at all time using internal resources as far as possible.
    • Controls fixed cost, overtime and manpower budgets within his sphere of influence.
    • Communicates with the internal and external stakeholders (suppliers , customers etc.)

    Outside Operator Newsprint

    • We’re on the lookout for an Outside Operator to Optimizes PM2 performance by doing regular inspections, set-up and adjustment of equipment in the raw stock refiner, machine refiner, forming and press section and wet-end area in a safe and efficient way.

    As an Outside Operator you will be responsible for:

    • Conduct Plant Inspections and Monitor Equipment Performance
      Carry out routine inspections using check sheets, identify operational deficiencies, take corrective action where possible, and report findings to the Process Controller.
    • Support Machine Efficiency and Operational Reliability
      Improve machine runnability by cleaning pulp build-up and ensuring equipment and machine areas remain operational and free from process interruptions.
    • Operate and Maintain Wet-End Process Systems
      Monitor and maintain wet-end systems including stock preparation, approach flow, forming, pressing, vacuum systems, back water systems, and cooling towers to ensure optimal plant performance.
    • Perform Sampling and Process Quality Control Activities
      Collect and deliver raw stock and refined stock samples according to sampling schedules to support process monitoring and product quality requirements.
    • Prepare and Support Plant Start-Up and Operational Activities
      Prepare machinery for start-up, operate plant systems from external control panels, and perform refiner changes and section relief duties where licensed.
    • Coordinate Maintenance and Isolation Activities
      Initiate maintenance notifications, perform equipment isolations using safe work procedures, issue clearance certificates, and support shutdown and maintenance activities.
    • Maintain Housekeeping and Equipment Standards
      Ensure high housekeeping standards within the assigned area, inspect machine clothing, assist with clothing changes, and maintain showers and related equipment in good working condition.
    • Promote Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Compliance
      Maintain strong safety awareness, identify and report hazards or incidents, and ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality procedures and standards.

    What are we looking for?

    • Matric (Grade 12) with Maths & Physical Science or N3 in Pulp and Paper.
    • A National Diploma in Pulp and Paper or Chemical Engineering will be advantageous.

    As an DCS Technician you will be responsible for:

    PLANT IMPROVEMENT

    • Drive continuous improvement by researching new technologies, developing engineering solutions, and implementing control system enhancements to improve plant performance and reliability.
    • Lead engineering investigations, prepare project scopes, support design, commissioning, optimisation, and ensure successful implementation of automation and control projects.
    • Develop fault-finding, calibration, and optimisation procedures while identifying specialised equipment requirements to enhance maintenance effectiveness.

    REPORTING & SUPPORT

    • Compile weekly and monthly technical reports, participate in standby duties, and provide specialist support to ensure the reliable operation of critical DCS and automation systems.

    What are we looking for?

    • National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in an Engineering discipline.
    • Minimum of 8 years' relevant industry experience in industrial control and automation systems.
    • SAP knowledge will be advantageous.

    • Participate in multidisciplinary teams to investigate equipment failures, identify root causes, and implement sustainable engineering solutions.

    • Perform standby duties and effectively utilise SAP and other maintenance systems to support maintenance planning, execution, reporting, and asset reliability.

    What are we looking for?

    • Grade 12 (Matric) with N3 Engineering.
    • Recognised Trade Test Certificate as a Mechanical Fitter or Millwright.
    • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.

    • Valid driver's licence.
