Responsibilities will include but not limited to: 

• Ensure that VOHE legal requirements, standards and policies are adhered according to legal Ventilation, Occupational Hygiene & Codes of Practices.   
• Interpret and communicate changes to legislation and policies to ensure legal compliance as well as proactively advise management on the identification of risks and develop mitigation plans. 
• Contributes to research, identify, and implement best practices, technologies with in the VOHE risk management.  
• Develop Policies and Procedures in accordance with Seriti requirements.  
• Develop systems to ensure compliance with the provisions of the MHSA - Section 9. 11. 12.13.14. and Regulations Chapter 5. 16. 21.22 & 23 by conducting inspections, audits, and reports.   
• To monitoring, reviewing ensuring compliance and enable proper implementation of health measures to eliminate, control and minimise the risk health and safety in the operations.   
• Review required by Section 11(4) of the MHSA, should be reviewed, and updated after every altered circumstance or if significant changes are introduced to procedures, mining, and ventilation layouts.  
• Manages or supports ventilation engineering process for the operations. 
• Identifies, reports and advise on key ventilation and occupational hygiene risks, opportunities and trends and impact thereof on the operations/projects.  
• Act the internal Seriti technical expert on Occupational Hygiene issues.   
• Conduct Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene trend analysis, incident investigations, report, and document findings.  
• Provides oversight and assurance on group governance.  
• Compile, monitor and control the departmental budget so that spending is in line with Seriti requirements.      

Requirements: 

• B Tech, B Sc, B Eng or National Diploma / Degree Mechanical / Engineering with Chamber of Mines Certificate in Mine Environmental Control - MEC  
• 7 Years experience in the mining / engineering field with a minimum of 3 years as VOHE Superintendent with relevant and comprehensive Occupational Hygiene experience 
• Data analysis skills and in-depth knowledge of all relevant legislation pertaining to MHSA  
• Management Development Programme (MDP) or equivalent 
• Proficiency in Ventsim Design Software  
• Project Management  
• Coaching and Mentoring  
• Valid driver’s license 
• In possession or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness

Advantageous: 

• Registration with the South African Institute of Occupational Hygiene – SAIOH

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

• Maintain safe work practices and a safe working environment by ensuring that legal requirements and group working standards and policies related to engineering are implemented and followed on the Operations and Projects
• Optimise planned maintenance schedules of machinery and equipment ensuring that equipment is effectively maintained
• Research and implement best practice systems with respect to cost, maintenance, safety and people management
• Effective People management, ensuring that roles are well defined and clarified and that competencies and learning paths are developed to human capacity and capability
• Financial Budgeting & Management
• Participate in ad hoc projects providing input into drafting of scope for new projects
• Sound knowledge of non-flameproof and flameproof diesel equipment and associated hydraulic/pneumatic components
• Manage underground diesel dispensing equipment
• Management of critical spares and sub-assemblies (stock levels/turnaround time and quality of repairs)
• Structural integrity maintenance management
• Managing structural/mechanical/hydraulic drawing libraries

Requirements:

• N4 Technical certificate and recognised Trade Test in the relevant discipline or National Diploma or Engineering Degree
• Minimum of 4 years’ experience as an appointed 2.9.2 Engineering Foreman
• Safety & Risk Management Course
• Knowledge of Relevant Legislation including: The Mine Health and Safety Act, Minerals and Energy Act, Basic Conditions of Employment and Environmental Legislation
• An in-depth knowledge of technical engineering aspects such as outside equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and South Africa Bureau of Standards (SABS)
• A good working knowledge and understanding of machinery and equipment used in the Mining industry
• Aware of best practices and new technologies relating to Engineering Principles and Processes
• Computer Literacy: MS Office and SAP
• Valid driver’s license
• In possession or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness
