    The role:

    • The role ensures the health and safety of the people working within several sections of the role’s responsibility by adhering to all legislative requirements, Seriti Fatal Risk and other standards and ensuring that Safe Work Procedures are followed and providing guidance and clarification on procedures, standards and guidelines.

    Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

    • PTO Matrix (Scheduling and uploading on isometrix)
    • Legal appointment in terms of section 7(4) and regulation 2.15.1 of the MHSA
    • Observe and ensure safe execution of day-to-day production activities to achieve zero harm
    • Enforce discipline in area of responsibility
    • Allocate and manage resources for execution of production activities

    Requirements:

    • Grade 12 Mathematics or Math Literacy, English
    • NQF Level 4 Further Education and Training Certificate in Mining Operations
    • DMRE UG Blasting Certificate
    • Minimum 2 years appointed as a Faceboss in a production environment
    • Knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act
    • Good communication, interpersonal and supervisory skills with strong administrative skills
    • Ability to plan, co-ordinate and control activities
    • Be able to cope with pressure, be innovative and a self-starter
    • Sound knowledge of Safety Systems, Regulations and Standards with a high regard to safety and an excellent safety record
    • Valid driver’s license and own transport
    • In possession or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness

    Senior Safety Officer, D1, NDC064/26GS

    The role:

    • The purpose of this role is to guide and manage all Safety and Risk tasks and functions for the Operation, and to maintain and update the Safety and Risk practices and ensure full legal compliance in terms of the MHSA for the business unit and Seriti. This role is also responsible for the reporting and governance of Safety and Risk data.

    Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

    • Monitor and manage implementation of Seriti Safety and Risk related standards at the operation
    • Facilitate the implementation of and sustaining the Seriti Safety Strategy
    • Successful candidate will carry a legal appointment (2.17.4) and be accountable for maintaining relationships with the regulators
    • Provide Safety leadership for the Operational team, reviewing data for leading indicators and adopting strategies to address identified undesired trends
    • Conduct and facilitate ICAMs, risk assessments and general Safety and Risk audits and inspections on site
    • Responsible for timeous and accurate Risk and Safety reporting to relevant internal stakeholders and external authorities
    • To monitor compliance to set legal requirements for the operation
    • Provide reports to peers and subordinates to act on shared learnings or findings for compliance

    Requirements:

    • National Diploma in Safety Management
    • 5 years’ experience as a legally appointed Safety Officer and at least 1 year in middle management position
    • Experience in conducting general Safety and Risk audits and facilitating risk assessments is essential
    • Comprehensive understanding of related legislation and reporting requirements is essential
    • Good understanding of Operational Safety and Risk Management processes
    • Experience in the ICAM methodology of accident investigation
    • Proficiency in MS Office Suite & SAP is essential
    • Valid driver's license (Code 8 minimum) is essential
    • In possession or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness

    Advantageous:

    • Extensive experience in the Coal mining industry within the safety discipline
    • Trade and/or Mine Overseer ticket
    • Blasting Certificate
    • COMSOC 1 & 2
    • Experience in mining, engineering or metallurgy

    Safety Superintendent, D4, KHT081/26GS

    The role:

    • The purpose of this role is to guide and manage all Safety tasks and functions for the operation, and to maintain and update the Safety and Risk practices and ensure full legal compliance in terms of the MHSA & OHSA for the business unit.

    Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

    • Lead and manage the legal appointees appointed as 2.17.1 and 2.17.4 of the Mine Health and Safety Act
    • Lead / participate in site safety inspections and over inspect the Safety Officer inspections
    • Compile Safety Superintendent month-end report and oversee incident investigations through identifying accidents that deemed to be investigated and ensure that these investigations are conducted according to the Seriti Investigation procedure
    • Report review and final sign off high potential incidents and injuries
    • Co-ordinate and participate in safety audits or Operations / Services Department
    • Review classification of injuries
    • Monitor and manage implementation of Seriti and Divisional Safety, Risk, Assurance and Contractor Management related standards at the Operation
    • Provide leadership for the safety team, reviewing data for leading indicators and adopting strategies to address identified undesired trends
    • Liaise with external auditors when utilized and review final report and sign off
    • Maintain baseline and issue-based risk assessments
    • Evaluate requirements of departmental staff, ensure that individuals are provided with the correct development opportunities, evaluate training courses as well as oversee the development of training material
    • Responsible for timeous and accurate Safety and Risk reporting to relevant internal stakeholders and external authorities
    • Ensure compliance with statutory legislation, and operational standards and requirements
    • Implement effective risk management processes and engage relevant stakeholders to ensure adherence
    • Manage and maintain the Document controls & Governance system
    • Ensure that costs allocated for safety tasks within specified operation are controlled within the prescribed budget
    • Control expenditure for improvement programmes

    Requirements:

    • Degree in Safety Management
    • Minimum of 6 to 8 years’ experience in Safety at a Middle Management level
    • Computer Literacy (MS Office)
    • Valid driver’s license
    • In possession or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness

    Advantageous:

    • National Diploma in Mining / Engineering or a related field
    • Risk Management Training
    • ICAM Investigation lead
    • ICAM Investigation facilitator
    • Safety Systems
