    Rotating Equipment Fitter / Mechanical Technician

    • Reporting to the Workshop Coordinator, and working in a team of trade tested Rotating Equipment Fitters, the role is accountable for safely executing repairs to all Refinery mechanical assets, whilst meeting the highest industry standards through following the Astron energy procedures and manufacturers specification. Work is carried out in such a way as to meet the scheduling, quality and safety requirements related to the refinery rotating equipment.

    Specific Knowledge

    Duties

    • Centrifugal pumps (end suction, split casing, double suction
    • Multistage pumps and High Head low flow.
    • Steam turbines (Terry, Elliott, Coppus).
    • Reciprocating compressors (Peter Brotherhood, Ingersoll-Rand, Nouvo Pignone).
    • Positive Displacement Pumps (Reciprocating pumps, gearboxes, tank mixes, Diaphragm Pumps).
    • Gear Pumps.
    • Assembly of precision components
    • In-depth knowledge on types of bearings handling and installation.
    • Knowledge on mechanical seals and seal flush plans.
    • Read, comprehend and interpret general arrangement drawings of rotating equipment, understand technical terminology and developments and know how to apply a technical skill or procedure.
    • Support to bring rotating equipment online.
    • Competent use of specialized equipment- but not restricted to - Laser alignment equipment, balancing machines, hydraulic torqueing equipment and Pressure Safety Valves ( PSV) integrity testing equipment.
    • Communicates progress timeously to immediate supervisor and operations supervisor.
    • Follows and promotes safe work practices. This includes conducting safety observations, permit audits, plant walkabouts and relevant LPS (Loss Prevention System) processes.
    • Supervises Astron Energy employees and contractor work teams when assigned. Demonstrates strong teamwork skills to optimize performance.
    • Coach and mentor learners and less experienced co-workers.
    • Repairs are carried out as per Quality Control Plan (QCP) and documented on equipment history file.
    • Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO) Procedures followed to ensure safe work practices to safeguard Plant and People.
    • 4-Senses (Look, Listen, Feel, Smell) of equipment as part of equipment surveys
    • Carry out standby duties and shift work when required.
    • Responsible for the application of systematic tools and methods to identify the root cause of mechanical equipment failures.
    • Basic troubleshooting and fault finding.
    • Conducts 5 WHY investigations in order to determine appropriate corrective actions.

    Professional Qualification and Certifications:  Minimum N3 or equivalent AND Fitter Trade Test (Red Seal)

    • Work Experience: Minimum 5 years’ maintenance experience in Petrochemical Environment (Preference toward Rotating Equipment experience)
    • Code 8 driver`s license
    • Knowledge and skills: Flange Management, Basic Rigging, Single and multistage centrifugal pumps, turbines, reciprocating compressors and gearbox.  Handling and transportation of sensitive equipment.
    • Strictly adhering to QCP’s and LOTO procedures
    • Developing and work according to a risk assessed method statements.

    Contractor – Trainer

    • Reporting to the Communications & Training Lead, the Field Trainer is responsible for all Training and Programs execution in Retail and across the network, at a time where remarkable step change is required (customer profitability, service excellence and Retail support) in a dynamic economic landscape.
    • The role is responsible for implementing training programs that raises visibility and improves the operational effectiveness of Retail Sales & Operations and the Retail Network, promoting high performance to enable improved Site Profitability, Retailer Accountability for sustained improvement in service levels to customers and increased job satisfaction for CSA’s, supervisors etc.
    • Works closely with the Sales team and Retailers to train on-site personnel and drive continuous improvement in operating standards, processes and procedures that will significantly improve the overall competitiveness, customer experience and ultimately the performance of the Retail business.
    • In addition, the role ensures that adequate training is provided and sustained for all new site staff and that all new programs and initiatives are well supported by site staff, including rolling out and supporting the new brand. Customer experience is critical to the success of the network and therefore the Trainer is expected to ensure that this is measured, and improvement initiatives implemented where gaps exist.

    Financial Perspective

    • Conduct execution observations to ensure effective and efficient implementation of training programs, tools and processes, and etc.
    • Manages operational expenses in line with approved budgets.
    • Develop a training plan and manage the training budget for the area/region. 

    Customer Perspective

    • Gain good understanding of each site performance against required customer KPI’s, and develop the required intervention and/or improvement initiatives
    • Ensure consistent high- quality customer service standards are maintained at each site across the network, and flag inconsistencies for intervention
    • Arrange, manage, and facilitate site training
    • Actively support/handhold re-branded sites until standards are met.
    • Support Branded Marketers to ensure standards are maintained across the network.

    • Provide monthly performance reports, attendance records and action tracking to ensure targets are achieved.
    • Share relevant training outcomes and reports with the Sales Management to assist with areas of competencies and skill building development.

    Operational Excellence

    • Deliver and execute training programs to develop and improve product knowledge and customer service by CSA’s, for all Retail sites as appropriate according to class of trade mix and priorities.
    • Support the Branded Marketers via coaching and exchanging best practice to ensure seamless and consistent customer experience across the Astron Energy network
    • Facilitate and/or deliver a variety of topics that include (Brand, Card Offering, Environmental Compliance, Customer Service, Customer First, Image Stewardship, Auto Replenishment, Wet Stock Management, Fuel Ordering, Credit, Product Knowledge, Sales Tools.
    • Work closely with sales operations to understand business performance and provide guidance and input or proposed actions towards performance improvements

    Professional Qualification and Certifications:

    • Tertiary Qualification preferably BCom, Sales & Marketing, Finance, HR
    •  Suitably qualified candidates with substantial retail service station experience
    • Certified trainer will be preferred

    Work Experience:

    • 5 years of retail service station experience in the sales and/or training environment
    • Financial and business acumen
    • Strong and demonstrable understanding of retail service station operating costs and financials

    • To be effective, it is important that the incumbent has strong financial, analytical skills, has a solid working knowledge of PC software applications (i.e., Excel & PowerPoint), possess a good understanding of the oil industry in RSA and the overall Sales & Marketing objectives and vision to ensure alignment of goals with strategic direction.
    • Needs minimal supervision & at times will operate under tight or stringent deadlines.  Strong negotiation and consultancy skills required. Collaboration with other functional groups to execute for enterprise value. Notable change management is required as the rebrand program completes over a 5y period.

    Work Experience:

    • At least 8+ years’ relevant experience with deep understanding of Economic policy regulation.
    • Prior experience in the Oil & Gas industry would be beneficial.

    Electrician

    • Reporting to the Electrical Coordinator (Supervisor), conducts repairs and maintenance to electrical equipment including motors, switchgear and power distribution system in a petrochemical refinery. We would ideally like to hire a Senior Electrician with Refining Experience and a proven track record. The position is available due to current incumbent going on Retirement.
    • Conducts repairs and maintenance to electrical equipment including motors, switchgear and power distribution system in a petrochemical refinery.
    • Active support, commitment and promotion of the Refinery Environment, Health and Safety initiatives, in particular, adherence to Electrical Safe Work Practices
    • Operating and working knowledge of trade related, ie:  equipment, materials and consumables
    • Assessment of appropriate repair requirements for refinery electrical equipment
    • Quality Control:  Ensure quality management principles are enforced in execution of all electrical work by self and 3rd party vendors.

    Professional Qualification and Certifications: 

    • Electrical qualification: Minimum N3 certification + apprenticeship with Trade Test Certificate. (RED SEAL)
    • Driver’s licence
    • Minimum 5 years’ maintenance electrical experience
    • Petro-chemical experience a strong Advantage

    Work Experience:

    • Assists and mentors Electrical Apprentices during fault finding activities
    • Carries out complex Electrical fault finding, troubleshooting and maintenance activities.
    • Develops method statements and procedures for repair work together with SMEs (Subject Matter Experts).
    • Conducts LPOs (Loss Prevention Observations) on peer group work activities.
    • Assigned to investigate Electrical related incidents during 5-Why investigations.
    • Performs periodic after hours’ Electrical standby duties, duration 1 week, as determined by number of Electricians available on the standby roster. 
    • Participates in daily LPS group discussions and Toolbox talks at the commencement of shift
    • Carries out LV & MV Isolations

    Knowledge and skills:

    • Available to do after-hours standby duty (x7 days), with reliable car.
    • Fit to work at heights
    • Medium Voltage switching experience - up to 11kV
    • Knowledge of UPS, Power Supply and Battery Charging systems
    • A basic knowledge of LV and MV transformers.
    • The ability to read, comprehend & interpret electrical schematic and wiring diagrams

    • Experience on Actom and ABB Switch Gear
