    Associate - Marine

    Job requirements

    • We are presently in search of an Associate with at least 1 year of post-qualification experience to provide support to our Cape Town Marine and Insurance Team.     Key Responsibilities

    Assisting the Partner and other team members on a range of complex and large-scale matters, including but not limited to:

    • International trade, commodities, shipping, transportation, commercial agreements, court proceedings, domestic and international arbitration, marine insurance, and commercial disputes
    • Conducting legal research and analysis related to a broad-spectrum of legal issues and matters.

    Candidate profile

    • Suitable candidates will have strong academic results.
    • Candidates will have minimum 2 years' post-qualification experience.

    The Role:

    The successful incumbent must have 2 years plus PQE and must come from a reputable law firm.

    Salary is negotiable based on experience.

    • The practice covers a broad range of corporate and regulatory matters with a focus on the financial services industry. The Corporate team regularly assists clients on structuring, negotiating and documenting complex corporate and commercial transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic alliance structures, complex insurance and reinsurance contracts, profit share arrangements, transactions involving insurtech and parametric/indexed products, new insurance and reinsurance products and portfolio transfers.

    In addition, it advises clients on all aspects of financial service regulation in South Africa, including licensing of insurers, reinsurers, branches of foreign reinsurers, cell captive insurers and microinsurers, intermediary licensing and regulation and compliance with data protection laws.

    • The Corporate practice's experience also includes various types of commercial transactions, such as commercial contracts (supply, distribution, agency, licensing, services, binder, intermediary and outsourcing agreements) and technology-related agreements.

    Business Development & Marketing Manager – (Johannesburg)

    The Role

    • This role is a part of the Middle East and Africa (MEA) Business Development team who work across our MEA markets and practice groups with a majority focus on engagement and conversion stages of the sales pipeline. You will be expected to facilitate the sales process; originate and coordinate high value marketing and communications activity; and provide advisory and execution services to the practice and sector groups. Shaping and implementing initiatives, tailored to market and client nuance will be key to the success of this role.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead BD related development and implementation of key growth strategies for a portfolio of practices and sectors.
    • Drive a connected and consistent approach to regional practices/sectors in line with our global practice group strategy.
    • Develop clear strategies and BD plans, formulate aligned marketing campaigns, and maintain a strong focus on growing key client relationships.
    • Maintain an in-depth understanding of the relevant practices, sectors and markets to inform BD and marketing activities.
    • Act as a conduit of information and collaboration to further connect the regional and international office network.
    • Manage the production and delivery of bids and tenders, working in partnership with the relevant partners and BD staff, such that bids accurately reflect the business proposition being presented and the related BD plans for that client, sector, or service.
    • Create, maintain, and improve pitch resources such as a credentials database, standard wording, and case studies.
    • Implement a client development plan, including working collaboratively with colleagues across various functions (e.g. HR, Finance, Business Intake) to implement agreed yearly milestones.
    • Manage the communication and marketing strategy of your groups, including executing multichannel marketing campaigns in coordination with marketing and communications team.
    • Manage all marketing materials and activities in support of the business development agendas including: brochures, directory submissions, awards submissions, web pages, CVs, client articles, social media posts, newsletters, reports, events, podcasts, webinars etc.
    • Coordinate and execute the organisation of virtual and in person events.
    • Champion the use of the firm's CRM database and manage regional marketing lists.
    • Formulate relevant business development budgets and manage the budget to ensure appropriate expenditure and that the firm receives suitable return on that investment.
    • Maintain the operational standards of the Business Development team to ensure:
    • our branding approach is implemented effectively
    • communication materials effectively represent the positioning of each area
    • our approach to pitches is informed by sector knowledge and client insight
    • the management of events is efficient and cost-effective
    • PR strategies support business development plans and enhance campaigns
    • Undertake other projects as may be assigned by the regional or global leadership team.

    Candidate Profile

    The ideal candidate will:

    • Be educated to degree level (2:1 or above); or possesses equivalent experience.
    • Have a background in business development and marketing within a legal services organisation with experience in various sectors and practice areas.
    • Possess a good understanding of the role that business development and marketing play within an international legal environment.
    • Possess excellent IT skills with knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Internet research tools essential. Knowledge of common legal CRM and marketing systems for client mailings and webinars is preferrable.
    • Have an understanding of client service standards and client relationship management.
    • Have good interpersonal skills with the ability to persuade and influence others.
    • Be able to develop effective working relationships with the wider team and across the business.
    • Have strong organisational skills with ability to prioritise multiple tasks and projects, manage expectations of stakeholders and meet deadlines.
    • Have excellent English language skills (written and spoken) and demonstrate attention to detail.
    • Flexibility and willingness to adjust work schedule from time-to-time according to workload demands and/or planned events outside of core hours.
