    Producer: Checkpoint

    Description

    • The incumbent would be required to research, plan, script and supervise the filming and editing of 23-minute long inserts.

    Interpersonal and team relationships

    • Build, support and maintain interpersonal and team relationships to ensure stable working environment and achievement of team objectives.

    • Complete Individual Development Plan. Attend learning and development courses. Participate in peer and team learning initiatives.

    Budget Compliance

    • Comply with work rules, standards and methods. Take care to minimise waste. 

    Editorial

    • Identify newsworthy events and developments and have the ability to generate unique story ideas from them.
    • Update and maintain a strong contact base.
    • Efficiently improve newsgathering and investigative tactics to acquire information and story elements, such as developing relationships, cultivating sources and landing interviews.
    • Develop and implement investigative angles to elevate story coverage.
    • Ensure that in-depth research and investigation is done before conducting interviews.
    • Ask probing questions during interviews that will assist you to hold those implicated to account.
    • Secure exclusive interviews and access.
    • Use visuals and pictures to create captivating scripts.
    • Produce strong, original inserts.
    • Provide direction in edit and on shoots.
    • Submit scripts as per the deadline set by your manager.
    • Write balanced, accurate and unbiased scripts.

    Requirements

    Qualifications

    • National Senior Certificate - Essential
    • National Diploma in Journalism/ Media Studies/ Communications/ International Relations/ Politics - Essential
    • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism/ Media Studies/ Communications/ International Relations/ Politics - Recommended

    Experience

    • 2 years' experience in Investigative Journalism - Essential
    • Drivers Licence - Essential

    Computer Literacy

    • MS Office Suite - Basic

    • Communicate frequently and efficiently while maintaining collaborative, productive working relationships with Management and News Personnel.

    Checkpoint Video Editor

    Description

    • The incumbent will be responsible for editing and assembling recorded raw material to create a visually captivating, high quality, suitable finished product, complying with the standards and requirements for on-air broadcasting as required, with a good understanding of video and audio formats and the compression and conversion thereof.

    Editing 

    • Video editing long form content for investigative current affairs.
    • Digitising and editing material according to specified standards.
    • Archiving material according to requirements.
    • Checking picture quality is in line with required standards.
    • Using graphics effectively.
    • Grading video to the required standard. 
    • Helping Producers, Camera Persons and junior Editors in the planning and visual development of inserts.
    • Selecting good quality, relevant visuals for inserts that assist in the telling of stories.
    • If the visuals are below par ensuring that this is rectified.
    • Editing inserts and promos in the most creative way possible.
    • Innovating and experimenting with ideas to enhance the look of the show.
    • Quality Control of the show every week and making sure Checkpoint's visual content meets international standards.
    • Making sure video is corrected/graded when necessary.
    • Making use of blurs when required.  
    • Recording and laying of audio/voice overs.
    • Prepping content for Audio Final Mix edit.
    • Submitting show after Final Mix.
    • Adding subtitles correctly to specification.
    • Recalling archive material and archiving when required. 

    General/Adhoc 

    • Archiving material/retrieving archive according to requirements.
    • Follow and maintain the Company's brand guidelines.
    • Knowledge and a good understanding of motion graphics is preferred.
    • Ensure transactions are managed in accordance with the relevant and approved processes and protocols.
    • Liaising with editorial team on creative aspects.
    • Liaising with the Editorial team to make sure all packages are within broadcast specification.
    • Maintaining any equipment within the edit suite.
    • Manage and oversee all technical aspects of video recording and editing.
    • Reporting any technical issues to the technical support and relevant department.
    • Work both on and off-site.

    Requirements

    Qualifications

    • 3-year National Diploma in Media Studies / Filming & TV Production / Video Technology / Journalism - Essential

    Experience

    • 3 years in Video Editing within a Media or Broadcast Industry - Essential
    • Driver's Licenses - Essential

    Computer Literacy

    • MS Office Suite - Intermediate
    • Final Cut X - Advanced
    • Dalet - Advanced
