    Sessional Medical Specialist Grade1, 2 OR 3-(Opthamology)

    SALARY AND EXPERIRNCE REQUIREMENTS

    • Medical Specialist Grade 1: R 671, 840.00 Package p.a
    • No experience required. Registrars who have completed their training may also apply on condition that their appointment will be subject to them submitting documentary evidence of registration with HPCSA as a Specialist.
    • Medical Specialist Grade 2: R 766, 480.00 Package pa
    • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience after registration with HPCSA as a Medical Specialist. Medical Specialist Grade 3: R 887, 120.00 Package p.a.
    • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience after registration with HPCSA as a Medical Specialist.

    MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POST

    • Senior Certificate, MBChB degree & FCS/Ophthalmology. An appropriate qualification that allows registration with HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Ophthalmology.
    • Current HPCSA Registration card 2025/2026. Registrars who have completed their training may also apply on condition that their appointment will be subject to them submitting documentary evidence of registration with HPCSA as a Specialist in Ophthalmology.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Broad sound knowledge and experience in ophthalmology. Ability to teach and supervise junior staff.
    • Good management and administrative skills and research principles.
    • Good communication, decision making problem solving, leadership and mentoring skills.
    • Knowledge of relevant acts, regulations and policies in regard to medical ethics.

    RESPONSIBILITIES / KRA'S

    • Provide a specialist ophthalmology service to Port Shepstone Hospital and the whole of Ugu District on outreach basis and referral.
    • Control and manage these services as delegated.
    • Maintain clinical, professional and ethical standards related to these services.
    • Provide after hour care in accordance with the commuted overtime contract.
    • Provide expert opinion where required. Assist with the supervision, support, training and development of medical officers and interns.
    • Participate in the departmental academic programme and clinical governance. Ensure correct management through implementation of quality standard and practice.
    • Conduct and assist in research.

    SALARY AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    Medical Specialist Grade 1: R 671, 840.00 Package p.a
    Appropriate qualification (MBChB or equivalent) plus registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist.
    Medical Specialist Grade 2: R 766, 480.00 Package pa
    Appropriate qualification (MBChB or equivalent), registration certificate, plus Five (5) years' experience after registration with HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in (Psychiatry). Medical Specialist Grade 3: R 887, 120.00 Package p.a.

    • Appropriate and relevant experience, skills, knowledge and competencies in Psychiatry.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Sound knowledge of clinical concept within the department of Psychiatry.
    • Good clinical skills to carry out advance clinical services. Research and organizational ability. Supervisory and teaching skills.
    • Ability to work in a team.
    • Ability to diagnose and manage most common psychiatry conditions, including emergencies.
    • Leadership, managerial and supervisory skills. Financial and project management.
    • Sound knowledge of the legislative framework and protocols that govern Mental Health.

    RESPONSIBILITIES/KRA'S

    • Provide safe, ethical and high quality of care through the development of standard, audits, research and assessments in the following arrears:
    • Clinical and customer care (patient perspective).
    • Close the gap to provide package of service.
    • Develop a monitoring and evaluation system with performance indicators, outputs, outcomes and target in agreement with the institutional management.
    • Develop, maintain and audit the correct implementation of clinical protocols, guidelines ensuring efficient, effective and seamless service delivery process within the hospital referring and receiving facilities.
    • To promote team work and improve relations within and between other specialities and other stakeholders within the referral system to improve service delivery capacity.
    • Plan and provide continuous medical education to multi multidisciplinary team member.
    • Manage performance of junior staff within the era of control. Assist with the process to plan, monitor and evaluate the cost effectiveness of service provided.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • Medical Specialist Grade 1: R 671 840. 00 Package p.a.
    • No Experience required.
    • Medical Specialist Grade 2: R 766 480. 00p.a.
    • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience after registration with HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Orthopaedics.
    • Medical Specialist Grade 3: R 887 120.00p.a.
    • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience after registration with HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Orthopaedics.
    • Senior certificate, MBChB degree or equivalent. A valid and current registration with the HPCSA as a Specialist in Orthopaedics. Plus post registration experience as a Specialist in Orthopaedics relevant to the grade.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Sound knowledge of clinical and patient management skills within the discipline.
    • Ability to assess, diagnose and manage patients as well as ability to deal with all emergencies.
    • Ability to supervise and teach junior staff as well as prepare them for the diploma in Orthopaedics.
    • Leadership, decision making, communication, problem solving and conflict management skills.
    • Sound medical ethical practice skills.
    • Knowledge of Human Resource Management and of current Health and Public Servants Legislations, regulations and policy

    RESPONSIBILITIES/KRA'S

    • Provide specialist Orthopaedic care to all patients in Ugu district. Provide for the effective running of the wards, outpatient department and operating Theatres.
    • Capacity building in district hospitals and provision of outreach services with focus on improving orthopaedic services.
    • Develop a CPD and training programme in all hospitals in the district.
    • Support and supervise junior staff in the district hospitals and regional hospital complex. Develop and implement protocols for Orthopaedics.
    • Support quality improvements in the hospital. Conduct research and train doctors towards a diploma in Orthopaedics.
    • To perform commuted overtime in line with hospital needs and as per commuted overtime contract
