    Automation Engineer (Cape Town - Office Based)

    Role Overview

    • Design, implement, and optimise automation across enterprise processes to reduce manual effort, improve efficiency, and strengthen control effectiveness. The role focuses on identifying automation opportunities across business and IT domains (including IAM), building scalable solutions, and improving operational and audit outcomes.

    Key Objectives

    • Eliminate manual, repetitive processes across business and IT functions
    • Improve operational efficiency and scalability through automation
    • Enhance control effectiveness and audit readiness
    • Enable transition from manual/ticket-based processes to policy-driven automation
    • Drive cross-functional automation (IAM, finance, operations, SAP, etc.)

    Key Responsibilities

    Automation & Engineering

    • Design and implement automation solutions for enterprise processes
    • Develop integrations and workflows across systems (e.g. APIs, platforms, cloud services)
    • Build reusable automation components and frameworks
    • Automate reporting, data flows, and control execution

    Process Analysis & Optimisation

    • Analyse end-to-end business processes and identify automation opportunities
    • Re-engineer processes before automation (avoid automating inefficiencies)
    • Standardise workflows and reduce dependency on manual/ticket-based activities

    Governance, Risk & Compliance

    • Embed controls and policy requirements into automated processes
    • Generate audit-ready outputs and reporting
    • Support audit and risk functions through improved control visibility
    • Ensure alignment to regulatory and compliance requirements (e.g. POPIA context where applicable)

    IAM Automation (Key Initial Domain Responsibility — not primary scope)

    • Automate identity lifecycle processes (joiners, movers, leavers)
    • Automate access reviews and certification processes
    • Support integration across IAM platforms (e.g. AD, Okta, SAP)
    • Improve control enforcement (e.g. SoD, policy-driven provisioning)

    Continuous Improvement & Innovation

    • Identify new automation opportunities
    • Contribute to enterprise automation strategy and tooling standards
    • Drive continuous improvement in efficiency, scalability, and security

    Minimum Requirements

    • Honours degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronic Engineering or related technical field
    • 5–7+ years’ experience in automation, development, or systems engineering roles
    • Experience working across multiple business/IT domains (not single-function)

    Technical Skills

    • Scripting and automation (e.g. PowerShell, Python)
    • API integration and workflow automation tools
    • Experience with enterprise platforms (e.g. SAP, IAM systems, cloud services)
    • Exposure to cloud environments (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
    • Understanding of system integration patterns

    Key Competencies

    • Strong analytical and process-engineering mindset
    • Ability to identify value-driving automation opportunities
    • High attention to detail (especially for controls and audit scenarios)
    • Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
    • Strong stakeholder engagement across business and IT
