    Team Leader - Harrismith

    In this role you will be responsible for managing designated of designated team, plant, and materials in a culture of performance monitoring, review and action, open communication, employee involvement, employee relations, continuous improvement in support of achieving organization mission and objectives. To ensure employee safety, product quality and performance while delivering on time the shift production plan.

    A day in the life of a Team Leader:

    • Ensure the timely deployment of the People development plan and assure the competencies of his/her team as per the agreed plan with PM (proper training inc. equipment, safety procedures, hygiene)
    • Enforce strict compliance with SOPs by all personnel during the shift to maintain operational efficiency and safety. 
    • Coach employees to fulfil and exceed the requirements of the job through NCE approach fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
    • Ensure that the working areas are kept clean and are maintained in working order, including all installations in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
    • Check and enforce personnel hygiene & safety e.g., protective clothing (uniform), shoe change & hand wash.
    • Ensure continuous line controls and take immediate corrective action to assure prescribed quality and to ensure compliance with manufacturing instructions.
    • Ensure ongoing smooth operations of the factory through effective employee and industrial relations management.
    • Ensure that there is an adequate distribution of skills to enable production plan to be achieved effectively.
    • Ensure timely launch of new products on the Market as agreed with the business unit.
    • Ensure adequate maintenance of the installations in coordination with quality, engineering & administration.
    • Drive adherence to TPM activities on the shop floor to enhance equipment efficiency and reduce downtime.

    What will make you successful?

    • Degree/Diploma in Food sciences, Chemistry or Chemical/Mechanical engineering or Operations Management.
    • 3 years or more experience in similar role.
    • Experience in FMCG will add as an advantage.
    • Demonstration of leadership ability by leading a project within a factory environment.
    • Demonstration of Leadership skills in positively confronting inappropriate behavior and using everyday coaching to ensure involvement of the workforce.
    • Proven ability to build and maintain a cohesive team, encouraging collaboration and a positive work culture.
    • Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey information and foster a collaboration team environment.

    Technical Assistant - Harrismith

    • In this role you will be responsible to assume full engineering responsibility for their assigned department during all production periods. He/she will provide support to the plant Engineer/Plant Manager on engineering issues.  Consult the plant engineer on maintenance, capex and other engineering related issues. He/she will make sure operation of the plant is in an efficient manner by regular inspections, monitoring and analyzing MSA results and line efficiencies.

    A day in the life of a Technical Assistant:

    STAFF

    • Manage attendance profiles of subordinates.
    • Manage both planned and unplanned absences, to provide continuous engineering support.
    • Ensure staff are adequately trained to carry out own function and to be able to relieve others when necessary.
    • Ensure staff are informed of job requirements and planning schedule.
    • Ensure staff are informed about Company and Factory information and communications.
    • Ensure that Occupational Health and Safety Regulations are complied with, and standard Nestlé safety practices are implemented and maintained.
    • Performance Management of reports.

    OPERATION

    • Contribution to the efficient operation of plant by regular inspections, monitoring and analyzing of MSA results and line efficiencies (SAM reporting).
    • Investigate opportunities for energy saving and effluent control.
    • Exercise functional control on activities and housekeeping of departmental workshops.
    • Collaborate with production teams to identify and resolve operational issues promptly.

    MAINTENANCE AND IMPROVEMENT

    • Assume full engineering responsibility for assigned Production Departments during all production periods.
    • Ensure continuity of production by assuming responsibility of associated plant services.
    • Identify essential work that cannot be performed “in-house”. Source appropriate service providers and manage the work to completion.
    • Participation in both hygiene and safety audits/meetings; action findings.
    • Actively participation in CDM-CI teams and SGAs.
    • Implement and maintain full CDM process for assigned Cost Centre Lines. Including the identification and stock holding level of spare parts. Preventative maintenance scheduling. Generation and control of maintenance “check lists”.
    • Active participation in daily production review meetings and weekly production scheduling meetings.
    • In conjunction with Production supervisory staff, plan and schedule maintenance work.
    • Provision of multi-disciplinary support during all production periods to ensure equipment availability and efficient performance thereof.
    • Submit proposals and costs for Extraordinary Maintenance and Capex budgeting.
    • Control of Maintenance Budget for respective Cost Centre.

    PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT/PLANT IMPROVEMENT

    • Investigate proposals for plant and building improvements.
    • Assist with investigation into the manufacture of new products as initiated by Applications Group.
    • Assist in the installation of new equipment, commissioning and training in conjunction with Project Engineeringly
    • Collaborate with cross functional teams to ensure successful product launches and modifications.

    BUILDINGS

    • Ensure all buildings are maintained in a sound and clean state.
    • Carry out regular inspections and action any defects.
    • Implement hygienic engineering principles where applicable

    What will make you successful?

    • Diploma/Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
    • 3-5 years’ experience
    • Proficiency in MS Office
    • Ability to work independently and under pressure, good communication skills and a team player
    • Strong analytical & problem-solving skills, good knowledge of AMM, Kronos and SAP
