    Junior Lecturer/Lecturer: MQA Grant (TBR0289) (Re-Advertisement)

    Job description

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    • Junior Lecturer/Lecturer in the School of Industrial Engineering, Centre for Sustainable Mining will be responsible for undergraduate teaching and learning, research, as well as postgraduate student supervision.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Teaching and Learning

    • Develop coursework and present PGDip in IE with sustainability, and sustainable mining modules.

    Leadership, management and service to NWU

    • Provide service to the NWU by contributing to the achievement of goals.

    Administration

    • Be willing to undergo, attend and complete training successfully.

    Minimum requirements

    • A minimum of two (2) years of evidence of independent research or industry experience.

    In addition to the above,

    JUNIOR LECTURER:

    • A B. Eng degree or equivalent in relevant discipline (NQF level 8).

    LECTURER:

    • An M. Eng degree in a relevant discipline (NQF level 9).
    • A minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience.

    ADDED ADVANTAGE & PREFERENCE:

    • Registered with ECSA.
    • Membership of appropriate academic and professional networks.
    • A minimum of one (1) year of teaching experience - Junior Lecturer.

    KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

    Must be proficient in the following:

    • Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), email, and internet.
    • Knowledge of the appropriate assessment theory and practice to enhance student performance.
    • Research methodology and technical writing.
    • A proven commitment to teaching and learning, including a willingness to become involved in students’ educational development and wellbeing.
    • Knowledge of modern platforms (e.g., whiteboard technology, eFundi, etc.) to enhance the ongoing changes of the learning and collaboration environment.
    • Effective time-management skills.
    • Effective communication skills.
    • Good interpersonal relations and a client-service orientation.
    • Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various functionally multilingual environments of the NWU.

    PostDoctoral Fellowship In The Unity Of Reinformational Theology

    Job description

    • A Postdoctoral fellowship is available at The Unit for Reformational Theology and the Development of the South African Society within the following subprogramme:  Missiological Perspectives.  Dr Christopher Magezi, at NWU Mahikeng Campus, will be mentoring the postdoctoral fellow. 
    • The Unit for Reformational Theology and the Development of the South African Society (URT) strives to make a theological-scientific contribution to important debates in South Africa. 

    Objectives of the Postdoctoral fellowship program:

    • Participate fully in the research program of the subprogramme Missiology within the research unit URT.
    • Collaborate with other researchers working in the team, thereby stimulating new and original ideas within the team.
    • (Co)Supervise students working in the research field of missiology in collaboration with an experienced Supervisor.

    Minimum requirements

    • A doctoral degree, obtained within 5 years before appointment as a postdoctoral fellow within the NWU, is mandatory.
    • The candidate must have the intention to pursue a full-time academic career at a university.
    • The maximum age is 45.

    Duration of the fellowship:

    • The fellowship is available for 1 year, renewable up to 3 years - contingent upon available funding; and satisfactory performance, as agreed with the fellowship mentor/ supervisor; and productive integration into the subprogramme.

    Value of the fellowship:

    • R249,600.00/ annum (non-taxable)
    • R40,000.00/ annum will be made available for research-related running costs
    • R20,000.00 once-off relocation allowance

    Job description

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

    • Specialist Academic Support Service. Design, manufacture and repair of scientific and educational instruments and apparatus of the University.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Manufacture and Repair:

    • Responsible for professional manufacture and repair of equipment that is needed by personnel and departments of the University involved in research and educational activities by means of specialized machines and equipment and various materials.
    • Redesign and manufacturing to update and adapt equipment to better suit changing requirements of researchers and educators.

     Drawing and Design:

    • Responsible for, through consultation with senior personnel, group managers and other responsible persons, design and drawing of equipment to enable the accurate and repetitive manufacture of equipment. This is done with the use of 3D design computer software.

    Maintenance and Service Of Workshop Equipment:

    • Responsible for proper use and care of machines and equipment in the workshop.
    • Proper use of material and other stock used in manufacturing of equipment including care and stock control of material in store to ensure that the department can be run properly and be always neat.

     Documentation and Administration:

    • Responsible for keeping accurate time sheets and job cards to enable management to keep track of all costs and time spend on each project to enable the financial officer to produce accurate invoices and to see how much time is spend on each subdivision of work, including admin and maintenance.

     Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)

    Minimum requirements

    • An Advanced Diploma (NQF level 7) in Mechanical Engineering.
    • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in designing and manufacturing research equipment from first principles including CAD/CAM.
    • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in the design and layout of mechanical components related for research equipment.

    KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

    • Design and manufacture of systems, Glass Blowing.
    • CAD experience, CAM experience, (Inventor or Solidworks).
    • Advanced hand skills
    • CNC Programming skills
    • Basic welding skills.

    BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

    • Excellent self-management and time keeping skills. Ability to work without constant supervision.
    • Self-motivated with excellent self-discipline, drive to succeed. Must be neat and proud of work delivered.
    • Professional behaviour habits with a broad range of clients, show creativity and initiative and original ideas.
    • Work well with diverse groups and teams, with excellent communication skills.
