    Manager Ancillary, Fare Distribution and Interline

    Job Purpose    

    • The role encompasses three primary functions: Interlines and SPAs, Ancillaries, and Fare Filling and Distribution. Its purpose is to foster, maintain, and enhance relationships with airline partners by establishing interline agreements and developing the ancillary products. Additionally, the role involves overseeing fare filling and distribution to ensure accurate and timely delivery of fare information to the public.
    • Key responsibilities include building, managing, and sustaining effective relationships with partner airlines worldwide. It involves creating strategies and defining clear processes for ancillary and fare distribution divisions. The role also includes supporting the Alliances team by negotiating, finalizing, and implementing agreements and practices that enable competitive pricing across relevant markets.
    • Ultimately, the goal is to maximize revenue from interline channels and ancillary products. This is achieved through effective ancillary pricing, precise fare distribution, and strong partnerships with interline partners, thereby expanding the airline’s network reach and market presence.

    Principal Accountabilities    

    • Identify and conclude effective and profitable prorate and interline agreements with airlines to access incremental traffic opportunities
    • Implement strategies, plans, actions, methodology and tactics to capture such traffic
    • Assist the Alliances team in delivering alliances revenue performance to achieve the Airline’s strategic objectives from partnerships
    • Consider the effectiveness of interline and prorate revenue plans and strategies and recommend appropriate corrective actions to optimize the Airline’s revenue generation from Alliances and interline partnerships for presentation to superior and relevant stakeholders
    • Manage budget in area of responsibility and contribute to department budget management
    • Develop new ancillary products and revenue
    • Manage key ancillary revenue partnership accounts
    • Monitor every ancillary revenue stream on a monthly basis, and ensure performance exceeds the ancillary budget.
    • Present monthly benchmark report on competition ancillary service offers and fee levels
    • Develop, maintain value-generating relationships with interline, affiliate and strategic partners for revenue and for accessing incremental revenue sources
    • Implement prorate agreements, interline agreements, and competitive fare products, conditions and rules in line with the Airline’s Inventory Optimization strategy
    • Identify profitable opportunities for expansion or revenue improvement for the Airline regarding interline pricing and airlines with whom it should develop relationships
    • Monitor for variances between the Airline’s competitive positioning and the interline strategies and plans and recommend corrective action as required
    • Deliver fares to market in an efficient, accurate and timely manner
    • Analyse existing agreements and identify revenue improvement opportunities

    Qualifications & Experience    

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business Development or related field at NQF level 7 with 5 – 7 years experience in a Ancillary and Interline field OR 7 – 10 years’ experience in Ancillary and interline field of which 5 years at management level
    • Applicable IATA qualification will be advantage
    • Demonstrated experience in Fare construction principles
    • Experience in reading and interpreting airline tickets will be an advantage

    Specialist: Remuneration and Benefits

    Job Purpose    

    • The role is responsible for the development and implementation of the Airline’s reward philosophy and total reward programs, as well as manage the effective and efficient implementation of employees’ rewards, incentives and remuneration administration in order to improve performance, engagement and the retention of the Airline’s employees. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for managing the outsourced International and Regional and Expatriate payrolls. Further to this, the role will develop a fair, equitable and competitive compensation and benefits package aligned to the Airline’s strategy and business objectives while catering for various geographies. 
    • The role will be responsible for providing a professional service to Corporate SAA, International Stations and Expatriate Staff based abroad. The incumbent of the role is responsible for developing remuneration and benefit structures for locally employed and expatriate personnel abroad, control of the local pension funds, undertaking research of local markets and economies for local and expatriate employees, analysis of market information, formulation of mandates and interpretation of tax legislation that supports the attainment of business objectives. 

    Principal Accountabilities    

    • Deliver on ExCo/RemCo Submissions and presentations 
    • Engage in trend analysis, benchmarking, research, best practice to support optimisation of Reward and Recognition  
    • Manages remuneration related projects from design to completion stages, in accordance with the project plan 
    • Maintains and updates project documentation and ensures compliance thereto 
    • Develop, review and revise remuneration and benefit structures  
    • Develop structuring guidelines for managerial packages in line with company policy and legislation 
    • Manage annual review of local employees’ salaries

    • Participate in Airline Personnel Directors Conference and Employment Conditions Abroad forums and surveys
    • Manage International HR query response and resolution times against Service Level Agreements and Performance Metrics
    • Verify and approve international employee information changes in line with labour law / policy of the specific country
    • Ensure accurate and timely processing of international payrolls per country including review and approval of payroll dummy run, timesheet and leave captures, leave pay-outs, extension of leave, payments, etc.
    • Conducts various salary surveys including executive levels (general and niche surveys)
    • Conduct salary surveys per country and international workforce types (expatriate, third country, national, etc.) including variance for pay curves
    • Participate in international company and club surveys for benchmarking purposes and analyse and make recommendations to management on proposed changes
    • Communicate and provide advice on remuneration frameworks and survey results including APDC website updates
    • Ensures mandate for annual salary increases are complied with on SAP Human Capital Management via Compensation Management for roll out to the Payroll Module 
    • Prepare and distribute salary adjustment and notch increases and monitor returns for country managers

    Qualifications & Experience    

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field at NQF level 7  
    • Formal training and experience in SAP payroll 
    • At least 3 – 5  years’ experience in a Remuneration and Benefits related role in a global context 
    • Experience in Human Resources with focus on statutory labour and taxation legislation, employee benefits, service conditions, job evaluations, HR information systems and salary surveys 
    • Experience in International and Expatriate Human Resources management will be an advantage

    Duty Controller

    Job Purpose    
    The Duty Controller role is responsible for managing the SAA aircraft and crew operations worldwide. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining SAA’s schedule integrity by minimizing the impact of irregular operations on the airline and its customers.  

    • The role is responsible for the achievement of consistent, safe and economical on-time aircraft operations globally through negotiations with SAA business units, service providers, outstations and other airlines. The incumbent may also be expected to perform short term schedule maintenance for aircraft and crew as well as Slot Management and Coordination. 
    • Lastly, as part of the Operations team, the role will be required to support the optimization of the safe operational function whilst ensuring all passengers are catered for and promote on time performance. 

    Principal Accountabilities    

    • Manage and optimise resources on a shift basis to ensure all shifts are covered (including weekends and extended holiday periods which fall outside normal office hours) by competent incumbents as well as generating shift reports
    • Ensure that all staff have correctly signed in/off at the beginning and end of the shift 
    • Conduct time and motion studies to root out causes for delays as well as enhance the on-time performance
    • Ensure provision of tactical support to crew in-flight, enhancing current safety levels 
    • Act as advisors within the 21-day window of aircraft utilization to supplement the SAA capacity in case of IROPS or peak demand focusing on payload capability, range, seat capacity and configuration 
    • Ensure clear and correct information is communicated to all departments & stakeholders timeously 
    • Drafting Reports on any major/possible IROPS and escalate to responsible position holder
    • Manage and co-coordinate efforts of all department for minimizing the adverse impact of irregular operations 
    • Management of Crew Operations Worldwide ensuring that they operate within the required legislation
    • Decisions to be based on reducing costs attributable to IROPS while maintaining Safe and legal operations 
    • Manage, coordinate and lead operations and communications, flight dispatcher, departure control, ramp activity, crew movement Controller, and other internal subordinate personnel output 
    • Evaluate all aspects of operational problems and irregularities and communicate them to the relevant department. If needed, determine and put into effect optimum solutions
    • Initiation of emergency response in accordance with SAA alarm notification procedures 
    • Liaise with foreign operators, airport regulatory authorities and third-party service providers 
    • Ensure legal compliance to all the regulatory and industrial authorities 
    • The main planning concept entails pro-active planning in such a way that problem areas can be identified to avoid an IROPS (Irregular Operations) situation 
    • Ensure that restrictions enforced by NOTAMS are still current. If restrictions still apply, make alternate routing/departing/arriving procedures 
    • Facilitate logistical service supply to minimize delays 
    • Monitor flight movement, update and amend ramp schedule
    • Maintenance of published operational schedule in PegaSys (Day+21) 
    • Monitor operational schedule daily for deviations from published schedule
    • When problems arise within the republic, Africa or International obtain input and exact problem and then plan to restore the schedule as soon as possible 
    • Analyze impact of schedule change and investigate most cost-effective solutions
    • Ensure expeditious recovery of the operational schedule by the continuous monitoring and analysis of schedule disruptions within the operational period
    • Facilitation of Ad-hoc requests ensuring minimum discomfort to the passenger whilst maximizing revenue earning potential
    • Facilitation of a joint decision-making process with various departments in the operational environment ensuring minimum discomfort to the passenger whilst maximizing revenue earning potential by applying the following operational schedule recovery techniques: supplementary flights, re-routes, aircraft type changes, time changes, configuration changes, flight cancellations, flight combinations 
    • Ensure copies of flight follow for the next day are printed and distributed accordingly 
    • Slot co-ordination and negotiation of lost slots with ATNS 
    • Request and arrange slots over flight clearance for additional/supplementary flights 
    • Negotiate and monitor parking bays allocation with ACSA and communicate bay changes to all the relevant departments and update MCS  
    • Establish serviceability status of aircraft for the specific planned period 
    • Monitor equipment performance and ensure proper maintenance and/or replacement of defective equipment 
    • Planning the annual maintenance schedule to ensure all communications equipment is not taken off the air simultaneously 
    • Solve communications systems failure for both station and communication office 

    Qualifications & Experience    

    • Grade 12 (Matric) with pass in mathematics at NQF level 4 
    • Bachelor’s degree from a recognised tertiary institution at NQF level 7 and/ or 5 – 7 years’ practical experience in the Operations Control Centre environment, of which 5 years is at management level  
    • ICAO Dispatcher, Dangerous Goods (Cat 10), Aircraft Weight and Balance, Amadeus CM and FM, Passenger Handling and General Aircraft Training 
    • Knowledge of aircraft scheduling is essential 

    Knowledge and Skills

    Specialist Route Network and Partnership Performance

    • The role is responsible for analysing and optimising the airline’s route network, codeshare agreements, and interline partnerships to maximise revenue and profitability. This role involves conducting in-depth market research, financial modelling, and performance analysis to drive strategic decision-making and operational efficiency. The incumbent will be the custodian of the reporting ecosystem and processes supporting the effective management of the airline route network and codeshare partnership.

    First Officer

    Job Purpose    

    • South African Airways (SAA) wants you to join the SAA family as a First Officer.
    • As a First Officer, you will be expected to take all measures required for the safety of the flight, whether on the ground, or inflight, and be expected to perform the duties of a pilot for South African Airways as either a Second-In-Command Pilot (P2) or Cruise Relief Pilot (P3).

    • Compulsory subjects: Mathematics or Statistics 101 and English (D symbol on higher grade or C symbol on standard grade) coupled with one of the following: Physical Science or Computer Science (D symbol on higher grade or C symbol on standard grade)
    • Valid South African Airline Transport Pilot’s License, or a Commercial Pilot License having completed all the ground subjects for the ATPL (previously known as a Frozen ATPL).  A valid ATPL License must be obtained within 4 years from date of employment with SAA with a multi engine instrument rating
    • Valid Class 1 medical
    • A minimum of 1,500 flying hours which includes 200 hours on multi-engine aircraft
    • Be a South African citizen with a valid Passport
