    Job description

    Major Activities

    • Performance Management - Maintain own proficiency / validation for the rating held;  Maintain valid medical (Class 3);  Complete a minimum of two performance assessments annually. (Continuation training);  Comply with published duty rosters and by being available for call out duties when required;  Comply with the Quality Management System (ISO), the Safety Management System (SMS), local Station Standing Instructions (SSIs), ATNS Directives and Procedures and the Civil Aviation Regulations and Technical Standards (CATS & CARS).
    • Air Traffic Service Delivery - The control by CNS in accordance with prescribed standards, procedures and practices (SARP’s), air traffic within that airspace for which he/she is responsible, in order to ensure a safe orderly and expeditious flow of air traffic, information provision and appropriate assistance where required;  Provide an AREA Control Service and Flight Information Service (FIS) as per local SSI’s, ICAO SARP’s, SOP’s, applicable legislation by:  Setting-up and checking the surveillance, were appropriate, navigation and communication equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures to ensure optimum performance and serviceability;  Preventing collision between aircraft ;  Expediting and maintaining a safe and orderly flow of air traffic;  Providing advice and information useful to the safe and efficient conduct of flights;  Controlling traffic within the designated airspace by complying with separation standards;  Coordinating relevant air traffic with applicable other ATSU’s / sectors / Control positions;  Maintaining, in the approved manner, an electronic flight progress display of all aircraft under his/her direct control to ensure co-ordination and sequencing of air movements;  Rendering all possible assistance to aircraft in emergency or distress in order to enhance the chances of successful completion of the flight.  (Including alerting and assisting agencies involved in Search and Rescue. Note:  This constitutes SAR co-ordination until relieved by specific units);  Reporting incidents and accidents and completing relevant documentation;  Providing aircraft with meteorological and other information for the safe and efficient conduct of flight (also implying the rendering of a Flight Information Service to aircraft in Class G airspace);  Maintaining a continuous watch on the assigned communication channels and remaining in the control position until properly relieved, thereby ensuring continuity of operations;  Relaying equipment, facilities and navigation aid serviceability reports and navigational warnings to aircraft in the air and / or the appropriate authorities and initiating NOTAM action as required, thus ensuring knowledge of current system status to all concerned. This includes the appropriate administration associated with these functions;  Complying with procedures detailed in Station Standing Instructions, particularly those pertaining to:  Opening and closing operating positions; Taking over an operating position;  Unserviceable equipment and facilities;  Special procedures.  Provide On The Job Training Instruction where suitable qualified and perform DE duties as applicable; Maintaining own medical and proficiency standards in order to remain validated in all the required operating positions;  Maintaining all associated and required operational administration current and in compliance with Company demand and SOPS.

    • A valid ATCO1, ATCO2 and ATCO3 Approach and Area rating

    Executive Assistant - Aviation Safety, Standards and Regulation

    Job description

    • Office Management - Act as first point of contact, representative and information source for the executive’s office, and respond to basic queries and requests for information and meetings. Receive and welcome guests and visitors courteously and efficiently. Screen all incoming calls of the executive and divert or take messages. Respond to queries where possible on behalf of the executive in their absence. Arrange meetings, prepare agendas when required, obtain input from all parties concerned, and ensure that all relevant documentation is in order. Manage and maintain the executive’s schedule with due consideration of the Corporate Calendar and relevant events, demonstrating an awareness and understanding of business priorities and challenges. This includes daily time management and consultation with relevant stakeholders to ensure optimization of the executive’s time, availability and contribution. Maintain a proper system for handling the receipt and distribution of incoming and outgoing mail, emails, and publications. Maintain the ISO filing system of the department and update the ISO Quality Manual and Management Reference files. Compile performance contracts for management team members as instructed. Maintain effective and secure e-filing of documents for fast retrieval of data and information. Utilize office equipment and technology efficiently and ensure that it is maintained and functioning optimally at all times. Organize /obtain business documentation for important strategic meetings, and arrange or obtain required materials, data, and information. Obtain critical business information when needed to ensure that meetings run effectively. Arrange and coordinate local and international travel, accommodation and subsistence for the executive when required, including currency and account reconciliation. Handle highly sensitive and confidential financial, legal, personnel and institutional information exercising the required discretion. Continually review and suggest changes to office management practices in order to streamline operations and enhance effectiveness. Order stationery, refreshments, office equipment and any other necessities for the executive’s office when required. Ensure that adequate levels of the required stationery are maintained. Arrange and coordinate leadership development plans and sessions as required.
    • Administration - Prepare and process documents and correspondence using appropriate MS Office packages within the required timelines for review and approval by the executive: Distribute to relevant parties. Liaise with courier services for delivery. Follow up with intended recipients to ensure receipt thereof. Draft standard letters, memorandums and other communication as instructed. Gather data and information from various sources and generate requested documents accurately and timeously. Coordinate and quality assure reports compiled by management team members and ensure timely submission to the Company Secretary. Proof-read documents when requested. Take minutes of meetings when required and distribute to all attendees. Prepare a basic expense report for the executive’s office including variances to the budget on a monthly basis, monitor the flow of funds and keep the executive updated and informed. Compiling quarterly reports for business units as required. Compile ad hoc reports as required in line with relevant guidelines. Prepare correspondence timeously and as instructed for review and approval by the executive. Develop PowerPoint and Excel presentations when requested.
    • Stakeholder Relations Management - Establish and maintain sound relationships with all relevant stakeholders including Exco members, the divisional management team, and relevant staff and stakeholders. Liaise with and engage relevant stakeholders courteously and competently in dealing with issues and queries, assisting with communication to and from the executive’s office, and managing incoming and outgoing instructions and responses to and from the executive. Follow executive office protocol at all times, i.e. the way things are done in terms of executive office management processes, practices, and in managing stakeholder relationships. Ensure that the ATNS corporate identity is accurately reflected in and around the executive’s office, i.e. in brochures, booklets, stationery, etc. Liaise and interface with relevant internal and external stakeholders such as suppliers, government officials, and other executives, conveying information accurately, competently and courteously whilst maintaining the required level of confidentiality and discretion. Maintain effective communication channels at all times to keep the executive informed of important issues whether in the office or travelling.

    Engineering Technician - FAEL

    Job description

    • Preventive Maintenance (ATNS CNS Equipment and services):  Perform all relevant maintenance activities on equipment and systems as per the relevant LSP, station instructions and equipment manufacturer recommendations.  Ensure that maintenance to buildings at the sites, the site itself such as roads, grass cutting, fencing, antenna masts, terrestrial communications and power from point of supply is maintained to ATNS standards.  Compliance to SLA’s  Ensure that the relevant equipment competences are attained as per station requirements and the appropriate Skills Matrix grading.
    • Corrective Maintenance (ATNS CNS Equipment and services): Perform “I” Level corrective fault diagnosis down to module (LRU) level.  Perform “I” Level corrective maintenance through module (LRU) replacement.  Perform “O” Level restoration of service by reconfiguration and/or changeover by means of supervisor positions and remote control, monitoring and maintenance systems. (RCMMS)  Perform “D” Level corrective maintenance where applicable as per ATNS support policy.  Compliance within SLA’s.
    • System Performance Analysis: “O” Level system performance and analysis by means of supervisor positions and remote control, monitoring and maintenance systems (RCMMS).  ”I” Level system performance and analysis through the use of specialized test, monitoring and B.I.T.E equipment.  Performance analysis using the relevant MMIS and other Computer Based Maintenance Management Systems (CBMMS).  Work within the SLA framework. 
    • Maintenance Support:  Draft useful, informative and concise technical reports on systems and equipment as requested and proactively when the need arises.  Capture all relevant data on the CBMMS.  Compliance with RT procedures.  Compliance with Airport Regulations.  Understand the impact of equipment availability on the national ATM service delivery.
    • Quality Assurance:  Ensure compliance with ATNS ISO 9002 procedures.  Ensure compliance with SACAA and ICAO recommendations.
    • Safety:  Comply with the ATNS OH&S plan.
    • Customer Related Communciations:  Liaison with ATC and Peers.  External Client liaison
    • Training:  Become proficient in the “O” level support of all Communications, Navigation and Surveillance systems and Equipment at your Centre.  Become proficient in the “O” level support of all Support systems and equipment at your Centre, which will include UPS’s, Air-conditioning, Stand-by power, Fire protection and Alarm systems where required as per the SSI.  Develop an understanding of and become proficient in RCMMS methods for the effective evaluation of system and equipment performance.  Become proficient in the use of specialized test, monitoring and B.I.T.E equipment.  Develop an understanding of testing methods for the effective evaluation of system and equipment performance.  Knowledge of all other applicable ATNS Centre and Shift requirements.  Knowledge of all other FIR environments.
    • Stores:  Comply with station stores procedures.  Comply with equipment LSP stores procedures.
    • Transport:  Comply with ATNS transport procedures.
    • Human Resources Management:  Become proficient in the day-to-day HRM requirements of His / Her Centre.  Live the company values.

    International ATS Instructor FTC (5-year contract)

    Job description

    • To provide ATS specific and related generic training and development services to clients, in accordance with laid down internal and external regulations, rules, directives and procedures. 

    Minimum requirements

    Formal Qualifications: 

    • Matric/ High school diploma
    • Bachelor’s degree is preferable.
    • Has completed all relevant rating courses from ICAO approved academy/school or college.
    • Train- the-Trainer course from ICAO approved academy/school or college.
    • Certificate of competence for assessor and moderator courses.
    • ICAO English language proficiency (ELP) level 5.

    Experience:

    • Have / had ATC license from ICAO approved authority for a period of 10 years or more with the Area Procedural / Surveillance and Approach Procedural / Surveillance ratings or all validated ATS rating disciplines.
    • Have ATS Instructor license / certificate issued by ICAO approved authority for 5 years or more.
    • Operational experience with ATC simulators including scenario design for simulator platform (e.g. TopSky, ATC Coach etc)
    • Experience demonstrating excellent teaching and classroom management techniques.
    • Experience of strong technical skills with current ATC automation, simulator systems and procedures.
    • Experience of 5 years as an assessor and moderator.
    • Experience of course development (Competency based training & assessment) would be valuable.

    Job description

    • Office Management & Administration: Accurate record keeping. Capture data, maintain confidentiality, and ensure safekeeping. Receive and process ATS staff training requests, ensuring that all required documents reach Human Capital. Process staff licenses, ACSA permits for employees and contractors and medicals for staff when required. Order, distribute and control stationery and refreshments as per policy stipulations. Process the medical claims of Air Traffic Controllers when required. Check and respond to e-mails accurately and timeously. Receive and distribute AIP (Aeronautical Information Publication) to stations. Ensure safekeeping of staff licenses as required. Submit staff subsistence and travel (S&T) claims to Payroll timeously. Ensure that monthly overtime for ATS Staff is captured and processed timeously as per Payroll Process. Perform any other administrative tasks as instructed by the relevant manager(s). 
    • Secretarial Services: Arrange all meetings timeously and inform participants properly of the agenda, venue and time Distribute all documentation for meetings timeously, namely agenda, minutes of the previous meeting, presentation, etc. to participants. Ensure that meeting packs are professionally prepared. Take minutes in meetings when required and transcribe. Distribute the minutes of the meetings within seven working days. Ensure that documents are typed accurately and timeously. Arrange travel and accommodation when required to. Process mail, and receive and dispatch couriered packages.
    • Procurement & Finance Management: Submit purchase requisitions for ATS Operations in accordance with the Procurement process. Follow-up on official orders with suppliers. Send all source documents to creditors timeously for payment. Ensure that all monthly contract payments are done. Assist Creditors department with updated monthly statements from suppliers and or any other information needed. 
    • Quality Management: Implement ISO procedures as per the Quality Management manual. Facilitate the review of QMS procedures, directives and instructions. Publish QMS procedures, directives and instructions on the ATNS portal. Update notification of changes to filing indexes. Follow-up on Continuous Improvement Reports to ensure compliance.
    • Stakeholder Relations Management: Develop and maintain sound working relationships with internal and external 
    • stakeholders. Liaise with and engage relevant stakeholders in dealing with issues and queries and assist with communication to and from the Head’s office. Appropriately attend to incoming and outgoing instructions and responses to and from the Head’s office.

    Job description

    • Align daily operations goals and objectives, ensuring multidisciplinary coordination across the entire Air Traffic Services Unit
    • Provide operational leadership to the Air Traffic Service Unit to ensure achievement of Air Traffic Management Service Delivery, and overall ATNS business strategy.
    • Provide operational Air Traffic Service Unit input and insights into the operations and long-term ATNS strategy.
    • Support the Head and other thought leaders in the development, implementation and management of the Operations strategy aligned to the vision, culture, and business strategy of ATNS.
    • Lead the design, implementation and management of the Air Traffic Service Unit business plan, aviation safety strategy including governance and service management capabilities, along with the service catalogue and service level agreements.

    • Analyse trends and metrics in partnership with the Head to develop the required solutions, programs, and policies aligned to the business needs and strategies.
    • Support co-ordination and implementation of the corporate transformation strategy in the Air Traffic Service Centre/Unit in line with relevant policies and legislation.
    • Build and maintain strong business relationships with customers to understand their strategies and plans to ensure alignment of the Air Traffic Service Centre/Unit operations to their needs.
    • Ensure continuous collaboration for conducting of research and development to enable continuous enhancement of the Air Traffic Service Centre/Unit’s operating model, products and services aligned with trends, technological advances, and changes in business strategy.
    • Ensure the effective integration and implementation of all Air Traffic Service Centre/Unit ’s resources to meet the required service delivery capability aligned to customers’ requirements.
    • Ensure the delivery of Air Traffic Services is in accordance to the South African Civil Aviation Regulations and Technical Standards and the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s Standards and Recommended Practises.
    • Develop, implement, maintain, measure, monitor and continuously review the Air Traffic Service Centre/Unit’s Station Standing Instructions, policies, procedures, service level agreements, and letters of procedures and/or agreements.

    • Authorise the extension of normal services and services for special operations in accordance with policy and regulations, providing personnel and facilities at locations where ATS is not permanently provided and augmenting staff at permanent locations if required.
    • Ensure that aviation safety as well as all value-added measures are delivered and monitored at all times.
    • Plan and manage visits to other regional ATCC’s to ensure inter-regional co-ordination and the pursuance of successful conclusions to mutual agreements.
    • Drive continuous improvements in the conceptualisation of ideas to attract new opportunities.
    • Identify and recommend improvements in existing processes and procedures to enhance service delivery, innovation and research.
    • Consider commercial implications in all decision-making including IP protection processes.
    • Monitor and evaluate outcomes of new products and processes to ensure continuous and improved business results in the Air Traffic Service Unit.
    • Actively contribute to building a high-performing and collaborative culture with customers being at the heart of the company’s offerings. 
    • Partner with the wider business to build and foster innovation in our culture of service excellence.
    • Manage and implement a robust governance framework for the Air Traffic Service Unit.
    • Continuously monitor and measure compliance of the Air Traffic Service Centre/Unit to all ATNS policies and procedures and relevant legislation.

    • Air traffic control qualification (aerodrome control, and approach control)
    • Formal leadership (Management Development Program) and or Business management qualification.  

    Added Advantage:

    • Post graduate qualification in Business Management, Aviation Management, Operations, or any relevant field

    Minimum Experience

    • Minimum 8 years of experience in conceptualising, designing, implementing, and managing air traffic management Operations or functions of which at least 5 years must be at Pool Manager and/or Office in Charge level within a complex air traffic services / air traffic management environment
