    Reporter: Parliament

    Main purpose of the position:

    • To identify, initiate, investigate, research, plan and record relevant material from political stories that are complex in nature and produce news reports that are fair, accurate and compelling to target audiences. 

     Key Accountabilities:

    • Initiate and cover stories as assigned or commissioned.
    • Provide quality, script and clear voice overs, including on air broadcast.
    • Investigate and break stories and follow them through to final product before broadcast.
    • Maintain special focus area(politics/governance)
    • Give informative and well-researched input to live Current Affairs shows and debates; package stories for current affairs programmes and do live crossings to news bulletins.
    • Check facts, accuracy and quality of stories.
    • Set up interviews and lead discussion for broadcast, including cross overs.
    • Meet story deadlines.
    • Keep abreast of news events/developments.
    • Obtain broadcast quality sound using relevant recording equipment. 

     Requirements: 

    • National Diploma in Journalism or Media Studies or equivalent qualification NQF6
    • 4 years’ experience in political reporting.
    • Understanding of regulations and legislation impacting broadcasting
    • Sound understanding of current trends in social, economic and political environment
    • Computer literacy
    • Ability to interact and manage different stakeholders at different levels
    • Understanding of multi-media platform
    • Excellent command of both written and spoken language of TV and Radio News to optimise the impact of editorial content.
    • Advanced knowledge and understanding of SABC News and current affairs production processes and systems.
    • Editorial and journalistic acumen
    • Good, “sound” knowledge of and interest in TV and Radio, Digital broadcast developments, trends, and technologies, including the media industry.

    Producer: Current Affairs (Afrikaans, Johannesburg, Gauteng) (12897)

    MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

    • To produce, present and deliver Afrikaans Audio News and Current Affairs programmes and content and be part of a team that broadcasts, publishes and posts stories that are newsworthy, compelling, accurate and fair for the target audience.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Initiate and produce Afrikaans Audio News and Current Affairs content as assigned.
    • Produce and present Current Affairs programmes, Special Programmes / Broadcasts and Outside Broadcasts.
    • Identify, initiate, brainstorm, research, plan, record, produce, broadcast, publish and post Current Affairs content and stories that are newsworthy, compelling, accurate and fair for the target audience.
    • Plan and deliver the content of identified Current Affairs stories and programmes.
    • Adhere to the specific language requirements.
    • Interpret and analyse the undercurrents in and subtexts of stories.
    • Conduct field, archival and other research.
    • Conduct interviews and Q&As.
    • Write / script, translate, voice and package stories in Afrikaans.
    • Deliver Current Affairs content / programmes on time.
    • Establish and maintain solid news networks and contacts.
    • Engage professionally with the target audience to promote and enhance News and Current Affairs, including on social media.
    • Adhere to South Africa’s Constitution, all laws, ICASA licence conditions and regulations, BCCSA and Press Council codes and rulings, SABC Editorial Policies, style guide and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) etc.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • National Diploma (NQF 6) / Degree in Journalism, Media Studies or relevant equivalent qualifications.
    • 4 years’ experience in an Afrikaans audio / radio news and journalism environment.
    • Afrikaans fluency and proficiency, including exceptional reading, writing, translating and speaking skills.
    • Good command of written and spoken English.
    • Good news sense and attention to detail.
    • Good news and general knowledge.
    • Good and clear broadcast voice.
    • Good understanding and use of social media as a journalistic tool.
    • Staying abreast of News and Current Affairs, and related developments.
    • Sound understanding of current social, economic and political trends.
    • Good ability to plan, organise and work in a team.
    • Ability and willingness to work under pressure, including long and irregular hours.
