    Java Backend Engineer

    The Job

    • You will form an integral part of our Agile tech team who is responsible for creating and maintaining the software that allows our platform to function. You’ll also be responsible for:
    • You maintain and develop new features on our software platform. You apply the principles of software engineering to the design, development, maintenance, testing, and evaluation of our software.
    • You make sure the software you develop is secure and safe with regards to information security & personal data.
    • We expect you to actively participate in meetings and projects and to coordinate with your team members. We also expect you to continue to develop yourself and keep abreast of new developments. 
    • You document your work and make sure that your documentation is clear and understandable for future use by others. 
    • Our team works in an agile way, and you will be part of the rituals and practices. 

    About you

    • You have in-depth development experience using Java and building software from the ground up. You’re a logical thinker and a natural problem solver who wants to use your technical skillset to make an impact.

    Requirements:  

    • You have a minimum of 5 years of experience working with Java backend tools and frameworks, including Spring.
    • You are not just focused on writing code—you strive for quality and scalability.
    • Experience with microservices and AWS is a plus.
    • You have excellent English skills, both spoken and written.
    • You are currently based in Portugal / South Africa / Kenya.

    DevOps Engineer (AWS)

    The Job 

    • The DevOps Engineer is responsible for building, testing, and maintaining the tools that allow for the speedy development and release of the software. You also build, configure and monitor the infrastructure that is needed by the software to run.

    Responsibilities:

    • You make sure the infrastructure you develop is secure and safe with regards to information security & personal data.
    • You document your work and make sure that your documentation is clear and understandable for future use by others. 
    • You build, configure and maintain the infrastructure needed by the Tiko software to run. You automate the creation, maintenance, and monitoring of the infrastructure 
    • You set up, test, and maintain the infrastructure of tools that we use to support our software development and launch. You are responsible for optimizing the flow of work from build to release. 
    • Our team works in an agile way and you will be part of the rituals and practices. 
    • You are actively involved in cross-team projects that involve development.

    About you

    • You have in-depth experience as a DevOps Engineer. You’re a logical thinker and a natural problem solver who wants to use your technical skillset to make an impact.

    Requirements:

    • You hold a minimum of 5 years of experience working in a DevOps/SRE role
    • Previous experience with Kubernetes container orchestration - using K8s within the AWS ecosystem (mandatory)
    • Solid background in AWS tools (including RDS, EC2, SQS), as well as terraform (mandatory)
    • Below are some other technologies we use at Tiko: Grafana, Prometheus, and Github Actions (experience in these technologies will be an advantage)
    • You are fluent in English (both speaking & writing)

    Data Engineer

    The Job

    • You work with our team to ensure that we’re able to unpick and understand past and future data. You support the overall availability of data to the organization and are expected to be the champion for automated data QA testing - ensuring data quality, reliability, and integrity across our systems.

    Responsibilities:

    • You translate our business needs into technical solutions.
    • Ensure that data is readily available from multiple sources.
    • You develop and maintain tools to analyze our data and identify trends.
    • You turn these data into a clear report that helps local and global teams take decisions on risk, changes, and programs.
    • Take ownership of implementing and promoting automated data QA testing practices across the team.
    • Continue to work in an Agile way, as per our teams.

    About you

    • You are a lover of all things Data, and understand how to gather, analyze and interpret information. You take pride in data quality and are ready to be the champion for automated data QA testing, driving best practices to ensure data accuracy and reliability. You are used to agile practices and rituals and will join in with the team's way of working. 

    Requirements:  

    • 8+ years of experience working with complex data sets and expertise in data and tools.
    • Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets
    • Previous experience building processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency, and workload management
    • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL)
    • SQL and AWS working experience is essential 
    • Python, Terraform, and Airflow experience is very beneficial
    • Below are some of the technologies we use at Tiko: Lambda, Flyway, SQL, dbt, pgTAP, PostgreSQL, Python, Terraform, Airflow  (experience in these technologies will be essential)

    Chief Programme Officer

    The job

    • This is a unique opportunity for a  visionary leader to join and shape Tiko’s growth in the coming years. The Chief Programme Officer is ultimately responsible for delivering impact across our operational markets. You lead all areas of our organisation that implement our programmes on the ground, as well as a number of strategic initiatives that aim to ensure we keep evolving our operations into the future. You are part of the C-suite, reporting to the Executive Director and you operate globally.

    Responsibility areas and deliverables

    • Lead on ensuring Tiko maintains an integrated, AGYW- centric delivery ecosystem that provides critical services to target the Triple Threat of unwanted pregnancies, new HIV infections and SGBV
    • Sustainably scale our impact in our core markets, Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, South Africa, Nigeria, Zambia and Burkina Faso from 1 million services today to 5 million girls impacted annually by 2030.
    • Consolidate and scale our community and health systems strengthening efforts in all our operating markets
    • Deliver on monthly, quarterly and annual impact goals in our markets.
    • Ensure our ecosystems deliver more value through robust data driven performance management and a lean operating model, keeping a cost effective cost per service/cost per user
    • Drive necessary delivery system/design changes to improve effectiveness and sustainability of our offers.
    • Be a transformational and visionary leader that provides clear and actionable leadership to your department and the wider organisation. Your teams will include all Country Operations, Marketing, Technical Services, Programmes and Innovation.   
    • Give guidance and provide strategic oversight and linkages  for partnerships with public and private partners. 
    • Shape government co-financing and co-implementation opportunities for relevant countries and oversight their operationalization. 
    • Use (Tiko) data for data-driven insights to continuously improve impact.
    • Provide the strategic oversight and guidance that ensures your teams are equipped and enabled to thrive in a complex network organisation that marries tech and NGO. 
    • Collaborate with the NBD team to develop proposals and ensure future funding for the organisation.
    • Strategically budget and decide on staffing and fund allocation to optimise impact and quality across markets. 
    • Be a key member of the C-suite of Tiko, which requires strategic thinking, hands-on implementation and seamless partnerships across the executive team and the organisation.

    Requirements

    • Masters degree.
    • At least 5 years of experience in a senior leadership operational role.
    • A minimum of 10 years of experience operating in a similar context. NGO, public healthcare or other relevant experience in the private sector in our priority markets will be a plus.  
    • Substantive knowledge and experience in 2 or more of Tikos key intervention areas for AGYW (FP, HIV ,SGBV, Mental Health or Menstrual Hygiene)
    • Experience in  successful shaping government co-financing initiatives
    • Experience overseeing operations in multiple countries across Africa.
    • Extensive experience working in a complex, results focused environment.
    • Proven responsibility of having final responsibility over 8-12 million dollar budgets annually. 
    • Experience leading teams within a regional or global capacity, in a matrix, mostly remote and fast paced environment.
    • Experience in representing an organisation to the public and funders 
    • You are based in and eligible to work in one of Tiko’s operational markets. We will not relocate candidates or provide for work permits. 
    • Open to travel within the continent - at least 25% of time spent travelling will be required.
